23. The Attempt
"This is the perfect time to attempt to steal the ship," said Jungkook as he stayed hidden near a vendor situated by the docks. "Captain has obviously wandered off into town for a bit like he normally does, leaving a limited and incapable crew behind."
After Jungkook had upgraded the boat that Namjoon, Suga, Hobi and Tweedle had taken to find them with a proper sail, they had left the deserted island behind them and headed off towards what Jungkook claimed was Captain's favorite place to spend time between pillaging. It had taken them a day or two to reach the place, but Taehyung knew that the sail that Jungkook had made caused their travel to be easier and faster than it otherwise could have been. Once they had docked in the village, Jungkook had told the others to wait for his signal before yanking Taehyung off with him to be his wingman much to the dismay of Tweedle. Jungkook looked at the ship for a moment more before turning to look at Taehyung with a scoff.
"What is it? You have a look on your face."
"It's just...if what you just said is true, then why hasn't anyone tried to steal his ship before?"
"Because he does good at pretending that the ship's defenses aren't weak when he's gone," said Jungkook. "You have to be a good liar to survive in this world."
"I still don't understand why you want to steal the ship if you aren't even staying..." said Taehyung as Jungkook shot him a look.
"I brought you with me because I find you the least annoying and yet here you are annoying me. Did I say that I was leaving with you guys?"
"Well, I just assumed..."
"Just be quiet," grumbled Jungkook as he turned back around to watch the few pirates that were still marching about on the deck in an odd rotation of sorts. "Alright, all we need is a distraction."
Jungkook poked his inner cheek with his tongue while he thought, looking from the ship to all the vendor stalls about them. It was then that an impish gleam came into his eyes followed by a small smile trailing across his face. He looked over at Taehyung; the smile growing wider as he looked him up and down.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" asked Taehyung, getting more uncomfortable the longer it lasted. "Stop staring at me like that! I don't like that look..."

Taehyung had a feeling that Jungkook was up to no good and now he knew it more than ever. He didn't see how this plan would work. Surely these pirates had eyes and would see through the ruse right off, but Jungkook would not be swayed. Taehyung wondered what he did to earn such torment.
Standing near the gangplank to the ship, Taehyung forced himself to ignore his aching feet as he tried to figure out the best way to stand seductively in order to capture the pirates' attention. He put a hand on his hip as he jutted it out to the side slightly, noticing the pirate nearest the gangplank see him; a gleam coming into his eyes.
'I think I'm going to be sick,' thought Taehyung as he forced a smile on to his made up face before saying in as high a falsetto as he could, "Hey there! Interested in some fun?"
Jungkook - who was standing near a stall nearby - watched Taehyung; a small smirk working its way onto his face. He knew that Taehyung would put up a fight about it at first, but that he would win in the end. Keeping one hand pressed against the sword sheathed to his side, Jungkook watched as one of the pirates on guard stepped down the gangplank looking as if he were about to have some fun. He chuckled seeing Taehyung stiffen when the pirate slung an arm about his shoulders.
"How much do you charge?" asked the pirate as he leaned against Taehyung a bit. Jungkook could see Taehyung shift; his fingers nervously playing at one of the sleeves of the dress where a knife had been hidden.
"That's up to what you're looking for," said Taehyung in his high-pitched voice as the pirate half chuckled, leering into his face.
"Just a little bit longer..." said Jungkook softly to himself as he flicked his eyes towards the gangplank to see if any of the other pirates might try their luck. They were all like moths to a flame when it came to the potential of having some fun with women.
'Or someone that is currently dressed as a woman,' thought Jungkook; his thoughts confirmed when two more of the pirates on guard paused at the gangplank to look down at Taehyung standing there in a dress.
"Oy! You gonna have all the fun without us?" one of them called out.
Jungkook watched the two pirates stumble down the gangplank as the one that still had their arm about Taehyung chose to ignore them; his eyes instead on Taehyung's face. Taehyung had his head turned down towards the ground; an action which the pirate mistook as bashfulness.
"Oh, don't get shy on me now. We were just about to have a little fun."
The pirate reached out a hand to try to brush some of the hair out of Taehyung's face as Taehyung tried to shy away more. Again, the pirate mistook the action and thought he was playing a game with him.
Jungkook knew that now that there were three pirates flitting about Taehyung that it was time to make a move. He slipped his sword out and stepped forward. Jungkook moved over to stand behind the one that currently had Taehyung trapped, putting his sword up against his throat.
"Sounds great! I know I'm ready for some fun," said Jungkook with a slight smirk.

Jungkook smiled as he finished tying the last remaining pirate up to one of the sail's massive poles, pulling back to admire his handiwork. Once aboard the ship, he had managed to disarm the remaining pirates relatively easily. Taehyung had followed behind Jungkook, but hadn't done much. Jungkook could see that Taehyung was still standoffish when it came to fights. As it was, he was lingering off to one side looking uncomfortable, though Jungkook wondered too if it had to do with the dress he still had on.
"You can take that off now if you want," said Jungkook to Taehyung as he swept his eyes across the ship's deck again to make sure they hadn't missed anyone. Once he was satisfied, Jungkook moved to hand a discarded sword to Taehyung.
"Stay here with them. They are tied up, so they won't go anywhere. I need to look for something."
Before Taehyung could question Jungkook, he walked off to begin his search. Jungkook entered Captain's empty quarters without so much as batting an eye, looking over the cushy belongings that he had stored up over the years. He knew that it had to be here somewhere. After all, Captain was convinced that it was magic.
Jungkook didn't have any clue where he would have hidden it, but just started tearing open every drawer he saw. Gold coins flew out at him and clinged against the floor as he just kept tugging drawer after drawer open. None of the drawers Jungkook had pulled open along the way to Captain's desk held anything more than gold and fine jewels.
"I know it's in here somewhere..." mumbled Jungkook as he looked at a locked box that sat on the sill behind Captain's desk. The ornate details of the box seemed to glint in the sunlight streaming in from outside.
"Surely he wouldn't be so stupid..." said Jungkook softly as he walked over to the box, using the hilt of his sword to bash the lock and cause it to fall to the ground at his feet.
Jungkook lifted the lid of the box to gaze inside at the contents. Hidden entangled among several bracelets was what he was looking for. Jungkook couldn't keep the grin off his face as he reached out his hands to grab it. The cracked screen still stared back at him much like it had on his first day here; the white earbuds stained a slight yellow color from rubbing against various things within the box.
"There's no way this still has a charge," whispered Jungkook as he slipped his finger along the side of it, watching in amazement as the screen lit up. There wasn't much battery left to it, but there was enough for it to come to life.
Without hesitation, Jungkook quickly wiped the earbuds against his shirt before tucking one in each ear. Music had always been a source of comfort to him and it had been so long since he had heard it. He closed his eyes after turning the music player on, listening as the familiar voices from his past filled his ears.
As he listened to music off his phone, he had his back to the doorway. Stealing up behind him under cover of the music was none other than Captain. He stole silently and quickly across his quarters until he was right behind Jungkook. Captain slipped a knife out of his pocket, holding it pressed against Jungkook's throat tightly as he stood behind him.
"Well if it isn't the traitor returning home," snarled Captain as Jungkook's body stiffened; the blade against his throat causing a fine slit of red to appear that matched his hair.
