20. Into The Unknown
"Are you sure he's the one that saved you?"
Namjoon stood near the boat with Taehyung as he looked down the beach at where Jungkook was sitting. Shortly after all of them had arrived ashore, Jungkook had turned his back on them to take up his spot by the fire again. He was already working on preparing the animal before him again with a renewed vigor. Tweedle had taken on the role that Taehyung had previously, running about the tree line looking for branches.
"I swear that he did," said Taehyung as he looked over at Jungkook before looking back at Namjoon. "He saved me on the ship when they wanted to take the gold out of my scar, and then he saved me again when I was forced off the plank with my hands tied behind me."
"He did?"
Taehyung nodded his head as he added, "I really wouldn't be alive without him. I mean, I'm pretty sure I lost consciousness when I was shoved off the plank. I seriously thought I was about to drown, but he brought me back."
As Namjoon and Taehyung continued to talk further down the beach, Suga and Hobi were sitting side-by-side opposite of Jungkook. They were both watching Jungkook work, but for completely different reasons.
"Why is your hair so red?" asked Hobi finally as the silence that stretched between them grew too much for him to take.
A smirk trickled across Jungkook's face at the question. He put down the bloody knife in his hand, flicking his gaze over at Hobi's pale and slightly uneasy face. Jungkook held up the bloodied animal near his face as he leaned forward a bit and said, "It's so red because I dyed it with the blood of my enemies."
Hobi let out a yelp of fear, moving to cower behind Suga. Suga remained unmoved though, actually letting out a short chuckle that caused an angry look to cloud Jungkook's face as Tweedle came back over to them with some sticks.
"Hobi, this man isn't serious," said Suga as he half-swiveled to look at Hobi hiding behind him like a human shield.
"He's not?" asked Hobi, sounding skeptical.
"No, he's not."
Jungkook took a stick from Tweedle's hand with force, stabbing completely through the animal in his hand with one go.
"Start the fire, Tweedle," ordered Jungkook, keeping his gaze fixed on Suga who turned back around to face him.
"I don't like you," said Jungkook which caused Suga to smirk again.
"Feeling is mutual there," responded Suga. "I also don't trust you. You're hiding something."
"What person isn't hiding something?" asked Jungkook in a low mumble as he watched Tweedle quickly try to build a fire to please him.
Suga's suspicions were only heightened by what Jungkook said. Suga didn't have an opportunity to press Jungkook further though as Namjoon and Taehyung came over to join them. Taehyung sank down in a spot between Jungkook and Hobi , who had recently stopped hiding behind Suga. Namjoon was about to sit down beside Suga when Suga stood up.
"I want to talk with you," said Suga to Namjoon, moving to walk off down the beach without saying anything else.
"Would a 'please' in there really kill him?" muttered Namjoon, slipping away from the group again to follow after Suga.
When Suga was sure they were out of earshot, he came to a stop. Namjoon came to a stop in front of him, crossing his arms.
"What's up?"
"I don't trust Jungkook."
"You don't trust anyone," said Namjoon.
"Are you done trying to make a snide comment so I can continue?" asked Suga as Namjoon chuckled, nodding his head.
"There is something he's hiding and not just an average secret. I feel it's as big a secret as a time-traveling RV or a security system turned human."
"What makes you think that?" asked Namjoon.
"I just have a feeling," said Suga. "My feelings aren't wrong. You should know this by now."
Namjoon let what Suga said sink in, mixing it with what information he had just gathered from Taehyung. If Taehyung had indeed lost consciousness when he had almost drowned, he wondered how he had been revived. Moving to walk back towards the others with Suga in tow, Namjoon could see that a fire had been lit during their absence; the animal held above it on its stick by Jungkook.
"Jungkook, I have a question for you," said Namjoon.
"Everyone seems to have a question today," said Jungkook as he stared at the rodent sized animal instead of at him. "What is it?"
"How did you revive Taehyung after he lost consciousness in the water?"
Suga - who was a few feet behind Namjoon - knew where he was going with his questioning but remained silent for once.
"I dragged him ashore and he coughed up water," answered Jungkook.
"If he was unconscious, he wouldn't have been able to do that on his own," said Namjoon. "In fact, he probably wasn't breathing when you dragged him ashore, was he?"
Jungkook didn't say anything; his silence the only omission that was needed.
"You used mouth-to-mouth resuscitation to revive him, didn't you? You used a bit of CPR," continued Namjoon. "It's a practice that hasn't even been invented yet - which begs the question - how do you know how to do it?"
"You're not from this time, are you?" Suga finally asked from behind Namjoon.
In response, Jungkook merely rose to his feet, shoving the skewered animal at Tweedle as he looked over at Namjoon and Suga.
"Believe whatever you want," he said before moving towards the tree line and disappearing into its depths.
"Did he just walk off?" asked Hobi, still trying to wrap his brain around what just happened. "Why did he do that?"
"It's probably because Namjoon here hit a sore spot," said Suga, looking like a proud parent as he patted him on the shoulder. "Good job, Namjoon. There's hope for you yet."
"Thanks," said Namjoon with a roll of his eyes. "I should go after him though."
Taehyung moved to stand up from the sand, looking at the spot where Jungkook had disappeared as he shook his head.
"I'll go get him," said Taehyung. "I think he'll listen to me."
"I should at least go with you..." started Namjoon as Taehyung shook his head again.
"No. Let me go get him alone," said Taehyung.
Taehyung moved to pick up the knife that Jungkook left behind in the sand. He wiped it off on the leg of his pants before tucking it into his waistband. Without another word, Taehyung slipped into the tree line and into the unknown housed beyond it.
