12. How Much Is It Worth?

When the RV had arrived at its destination this time, it had thankfully landed itself somewhere secluded so they didn't have to push it into hiding. The RV had landed itself within a small stand of trees outside a bustling seaport village. Namjoon was the first one to exit the RV as he felt his toast doing somersaults in his stomach. Namjoon took in the surroundings while trying to keep the contents of his stomach down. Hearing footsteps behind him, Namjoon turned to see that Taehyung had stepped out of the RV and was looking at the new scenery before him in awe.

"This place...how'd we get here?" asked Taehyung.

"This RV brought us here," said Namjoon as he patted the side of it.

"This is incredible," said Taehyung, looking towards the majestic blue sea where small fishing vessels and larger boats were bobbing up and down in the waves.

Namjoon gave a dimpled grin as he patted Taehyung's back. He left him standing there as he re-entered the RV to look at Suga and Hobi. They had both gotten up from their seats and were about to exit too when Namjoon stopped them short.

"What are you doing?" asked Suga as he arched a brow.

"You both can't go out there dressed like this," said Namjoon. "I need to change too."

"Well, what are we going to wear?" asked Suga.

Taehyung overheard the conversation, moving to re-enter the RV and look at them.

"I can help you out," said Taehyung. "We can dress in some of the clothing we took from Guy's place."

"I don't think he helped me out," grumbled Suga.

After Taehyung had helped them to have a make-over with the clothing they had taken from Guy, the four of them began to make their way along the shore towards the village. They figured the best place to start searching for their new companion would be there. Hobi and Taehyung were walking a few feet ahead, chatting on about all the things they were excited to see if the village had. Suga was lagging behind so Namjoon was walking along beside him. Suga looked grumpy as he walked like he had a stick up his rear.

"Stop. You look fine. Much better than you did in your jogger," said Namjoon. "Why are you walking like that though?"

"Because the idiot gave me clothing that is too small," griped Suga. "It is too tight."

"Just try to put up with it for a little bit," said Namjoon. "Maybe we'll find our next companion right off and you can go straight back to the RV to change back into your old clothes."

Suga mumbled something incoherent under his breath after that, but Namjoon didn't bother asking him what he had said. Instead, he turned his attention to the bustling village they had just entered. The four of them walked past a variety of market stalls; women walking about trying to purchase what they needed for their families while their children ran about with shrieks of joy falling from their mouths as they played with one another.

Taehyung and Hobi seemed to be like children themselves, pausing at stalls every once in a while to check out what was being sold. Suga wasn't as interested in the stalls as he was in the people around them. As Namjoon moved over to try to get Taehyung and Hobi to move away from one of the stalls, Suga turned to look at a little kid that had accidentally bumped into his leg during their game of tag. The glare that Suga sent the kid was enough to send the kid running off terrified. Namjoon turned just in time to see the silent transaction, slapping Suga's arm.

"Behave yourself. The child was just playing around, and you went and scared him."

"He bumped into me," said Suga.

"It's not like he was a pickpocket or something. The kid is playing tag," said Namjoon as he nodded towards the kid who appeared to have rejoined two other little boys that were equally as tanned by the sun. "Not everyone is out to get you. Not everyone is another Guy."

"You better be careful what you say," said Suga as Namjoon just rolled his eyes.

The four of them moved along down the street, looking at various stalls and not finding anything out of place. Right when they were about to enter the heart of the village, a bell began to ring out through the air, causing the four of them to freeze in their tracks. Everyone around them began to frantically close up their stalls and run for cover.

"What's going on?" asked Taehyung as he looked at what was going on around them.

"I don't know, but it can't be good," said Hobi.

"Astute observation," said Suga with an eye roll.

"What are you four doing? Pirates are coming!" said one woman who ran past them with her baby in her arms.

Without saying anything, Suga grabbed Namjoon and Hobi by the sleeve, moving to direct them off to the side of the road. There was a bar there that was just about to shut its door, but Suga kept the door from shutting all the way by sticking his foot out. He pushed Namjoon and Hobi inside before turning back to look for Taehyung. He had figured Taehyung would follow. However, Taehyung hadn't. He was still standing in the center of the road, paralyzed by what was going on. Namjoon could see that Taehyung was paralyzed and tried to move back towards the door to go get him.

"No," said Suga, putting out a hand and putting it on Namjoon's chest. "I'll go get him. Stay here where it is safe."

Namjoon reluctantly relented as Suga turned back to make his way towards the road where Taehyung still stood. Suga was just about to reach the road when he noticed a movement out of the corner of his eye that had him ducking behind a nearby stall.

A motley looking crew were currently walking up the road towards them. The man that led the pack of ragamuffins looked as if he hadn't ever heard of the word 'shower' in his entire life. His clothes were rags that were holding together due to various patches; clinging to his soiled skin simply due to the sheer amount of grim on him. His grisly beard hung down to his chin and was speckled with crumbs. A sheath with a sword in it was about his waist, slapping against his leg as he came to a stop in front of Taehyung. Suga could see that - when the man smiled - he revealed teeth that looked like they were about to fall out of his head.

"Well lookey here. We have ourselves a village hero."

The man turned to look at the three men gathered behind him.

"When's the last time someone didn't cower when we came to town?" asked the man.

"Dunno. I can't maths," said the shortest one.

"You three go ahead and start doing what we came to do," ordered the man. "You know the boss expects a haul like usual. I will deal with our hero here."

The man watched as his toadies ran off to ransack the various market stalls before turning to look at Taehyung again.

"So, what's your name, boy?"

"T-taehyung," he stuttered out as Suga watched the man grab Taehyung by the chin. Taehyung's eyes widened as the man turned Taehyung's head one way and then the other. It was just as the man dropped his hand from Taehyung's chin that he caught sight of the glint of gold from his scar.

"Well now. What's this?" asked the man as he brushed away Taehyung's hair from his forehead so he could fully see the golden scar. "This is highly unusual. How much is it worth?"

"How much is what worth?" asked Taehyung, not realizing what the man was talking about for a moment.

"The gold," he said, looking like he had won the jackpot. "It surely must be worth something."

"Oh I...I don't know," said Taehyung. "I really don't."

Taehyung gulped when one of the man's toadies came over upon hearing the exchange, unsheathing his weapon so he could point the tip of the sword at the golden scar.

"Shall I extract it for you?" asked the toady as Taehyung paled.

"No," said the man to Taehyung's relief. "We'll take him with us. Our boss might find him interesting, and besides, that is the only gold that is visible. It doesn't mean it's the only gold he carries inside him."

Before Taehyung could react, the toady near him sheathed his weapon again before producing some sort of rope out of nowhere, tying it about his wrists. Suga cursed under his breath as he watched the unfolding situation. He didn't know what to do to get Taehyung out of the mess he was in without getting himself killed.

"Smithy and Leary! Finish up here! I'm taking this man back to the boat!" shouted the man as the toady finished tying Taehyung's wrists, shoving a rag in his mouth. "You finish up here too, Tweedle. Now that you have him tied up and gagged, I can take it from here."

Suga watched the man grip Taehyung roughly by the sleeve and lead him away. Just as he was about to try to follow them as they disappeared from view, one of the toadies that had been left to do the ransacking decided to tackle the stall he was hiding behind. Suga lifted his head to make eye contact with the man; the two of them staring each other down.

'This is going to either go one of two ways,' thought Suga. 'And I'm not going down without a fight.'

Taehyung was afraid for yet another time in his life. He felt that the fear would paralyze him back into a statue as the man gruffly led him out of the village and towards the shore. His mind was telling himself that he had to try to overtake his captor while the other part of him was too stricken with fear to do anything. Taehyung was led down the shore and escorted down a small rocky outcropping to where a rowboat bobbed on the waves. It had been tethered off to a nearby rock. There was a man that was currently standing on the semi-rocking boat who had their back to the trio as he fiddled with the sail. Hearing someone approach, he turned to face them.

His ruby red hair was what captured Taehyung's attention first. It seemed to match the color of the shirt that he wore; a low v-neck exposing his well-defined chest. He was outfitted similarly to the men Taehyung was with, but he could tell that this man was more sanitary in nature. He must have a higher rank than the others. His onyx eyes stared at Taehyung as he approached with an indifferent expression. The man moved to step out of the boat and walk over to them.

"What's this?" asked the red-haired man. "Why do you have a prisoner with you? What part of get in and get out don't you understand?"

Taehyung turned his head from the red-haired man in front of him to the man still having a firm grip on his sleeve. He could see the man's jaw set in place as he looked at the other.

"Because of this," said the man as he gruffly brushed some of Taehyung's hair aside to reveal the golden scar.

The red-haired man's eyes lit up seeing the golden scar. He was immediately intrigued by Taehyung, moving to grip his chin in one of his hands so their eyes locked. With his other hand, the red-haired man reached up to touch the tip of the gag in Taehyung's mouth.

"I want to talk to you, but you won't scream when I remove this gag, right?"

"Sir, I don't think..."

"QUIET!" snapped the red-haired man as he looked at the man who gripped Taehyung's sleeve tighter at the rebuke. So tightly in fact that he ended up pinching some of Taehyung's skin.

"You never think," continued the red-haired man. "So I don't want to hear another word out of you. Do I make myself clear, Dunder?"

Dunder nodded his head as the red-haired man turned back to lock eyes with Taehyung once more.

"Do you promise me you won't scream?" asked the red-haired man again as his eyes searched Taehyung's

Taehyung nodded his head as the red-haired man smirked, yanking the gag out of his mouth. The taste that the gag left behind was enough to make Taehyung want to hurl, but he remained composed as he stared at the man before him.

"What's your name?" asked the red-haired man.

"Taehyung," he said timidly, watching as the man smiled at his words.

"Well, Taehyung. It's nice to meet you. I'm sure our boss will love you. My name is Jungkook."

AN: Just in case anyone is wondering, here is how I envision Jeon Jungkook in this time period. I don't own this photo.
