               ✿ GAIA WAS AN ETERNAL created in the image of the Celestial Arishem. She could harness small amounts of cosmic energy to control nature at will, and she used that power to help Earth grow and evolve while also helping to take out Deviants who threatened to destroy humans as they knew it. Gaia was caring, loving, and strong, putting way more hope into humanity than she should have. Humanity had shown her they were good, but as they continued to evolve, they grew ruthless.

As much as Gaia hated to admit it, the human race was destroying Earth by cutting down all the trees she had grown and all the nature she had taken care of over seven thousand years. At one point during the 19th century, Gaia decided to give up trying to get humanity to stop destroying the planet. They were never going to stop, and Gaia had to accept that humans were mindless beings who only thought of themselves.

Druig was an Eternal created in the image of the Celestial Arishem. He could harness small amounts of cosmic energy to control minds and used this power to assist humanity whenever Deviants threatened them. Druig was quiet, sophisticated, and unpredictable. He was never afraid to speak his mind, particularly about what he believed should or shouldn't be allowed when dealing with humanity. Over time, he grew fond of humans, enjoying watching them laugh, love, and live their lives. However, as humans continued to evolve, they became more power-hungry. He witnessed humanity becoming increasingly violent, and even though he could have stopped it with just a single thought, their fearless Prime Eternal instructed him not to do so.

Druig had given up on humanity long before he decided to leave his Eternal family and put himself in self-imposed exile. He watched them all kill each other, using the weapons created by Phastos to bring down kingdoms and countries. Despite everything that seemed to be going wrong with humanity, Druig couldn't help but find his mind continuously wandering over to Gaia's to see how she was doing. He knew how upset the Mother of Nature felt every time she watched the humans chop down trees and build over the plants and grass she had grown. Druig worried about his beloved Gaia, but that didn't stop him from abandoning humanity during the Spanish invasion of the Aztec capital of Tenochtitlan in 1521.

After hundreds of years, in the year 2023 (just weeks after half of all life reappeared after Thanos had snapped them all away in 2018), a powerful earthquake reunites the previously divided Eternals. Some of them are attacked by Deviants, whom they believed had disappeared long ago. And Gaia is compelled to visit the Eternal, who abandoned her centuries ago, which brings up long-buried emotions for both Gaia and Druig. Maybe there was something still worth fighting for on Earth. ❀

HELLO HELLO!!
I was walking into the cinema having already planned an Ikaris fic purely because of Richard Madden (I see you, Robb Stark), but just like everyone here, we fell for the brooding, sarcastic character with a hatred for humanity. My therapist would smack me if he knew who my comfort characters were. I LOVE Gaia and Druig. They're probably my favourite pair that I've written :o
So I hope you enjoy this fic, and hopefully, I can come up with something good and actually finish it :)
