HAILEE'S ORIGINAL EXIT
This was the original exit I had planned for Hailee. I will most likely be on for a while but mainly for writing and stuff- not roleplaying. Please listen to the above song when the time is right in the story.
WARNING: VERY UPSETTING
The sound of beeping monitors could be heard coming from Hailee's Hospital Room. She was moved to a separate room when she fell into a coma again. The sounds of machines aren't always pleasant but for Hailee's grandparents it was an indication that their baby girl was still alive. Still fighting. It brought them slight comfort.
Hailee's grandad held her hand and stared at his beautiful granddaughter, who was more of a daughter. "I promise... we'll make sure you get the best chance at life. We'll pay whatever we need for surgery to get your voice back, whether it's possible or not, we'll make it happen. You just have to get through this part for us... please Hailee, wake up", he said, almost breaking down in tears but just about stopping himself.
Hailee's grandmother listened and watched from the door, tears running down her cheeks. She walked to him and placed her hand on top of his, the other running along Hailee's hair. "It'll be ok honey, life can't be this cruel...not to good people. Let's stay strong for her", she said shakily.
Garett, Nina, Jackson, Antonia, Apollo and Carter were watching from the door, the others coming later.
Nina had tears in her eyes and red roses in her hand. She had her arm around Garett. The usual spark in her eyes had gone. Her soft, velvet like, hair was slightly messy, clearly not been properly taken care of- when a friend was in hospital, hair seems like the last worry, right? Hailee wished she had her beautiful hair and her smiley personality.
Jasper's cheeks were stained with tears and his eyes were red. They may not have been super close but Hailee still cared for him.
Garett looked tired and broken. She was the only one to know Hailee's plans on leaving before the accident. That brought some guilt, even though she really had nothing to feel guilty for. She had dark circles under her eyes, a painful reminder of the lack of sleep she got.
Apollo had pulled Jackson into a side hug. Apollo and Hailee had gotten a lot closer so he was understandably shaken by it all.
Jackson. The boy who most people looked to at hard times. Hailee never told him how much he meant to her. She would watch him play on the field and she would just think... 'he's amazing at what he loves'. He had so much confidence and was extremely talented whilst still managing to be a nice guy. Hailee looked up to him.
Antonia rubbed Carter's back as they cried.
Hailee and Carter's first major interaction was at Isaiah's Party when she lent Hailee her swimsuit. And then when they shared a Homecoming Dance. This was hard on her.
Antonia was someone Hailee admired. Her 'I don't give a f***' attitude was something Hailee wished she had. Whenever she needed fashion advice Antonia would always be who she'd go to.
All they could do was hope and pray.
*2 WEEKS LATER*
Hailee's health began to deteriorate and despite the Doctor's best efforts, Hailee was placed on a life support machine.
"Please Hailee... don't give up", whispered her grandad, in tears.
Her grandmother kissed her pale forehead, her tears falling onto Hailee's face.
Hailee's updated report:
Hailee's health has worsened and despite all the tests our team have done, we can't find out why. Our only reason is that the impact of the object that fell onto Hailee fell directly onto her head, causing greater damage. Before it was believed that most of the damage was done to Hailee's body but the tests confirm the damage was to her brain, though we don't know the exact ways of treating her. If her health worsens more then there is a high chance that permanent brain will be caused, most likely meaning she will not be able to live without the machine. Of course, more tests will be done as Hailee is our priority.
*3 DAYS LATER*
Hailee's condition hadn't gotten better. Everyone was just waiting on the test results to find out if she had stayed the same or gotten worse.
The life was completely drained from her grandparents face as they sat by Hailee, awaiting the news.
The others were waiting outside again, not wanting to overcrowd.
The Doctor walked in, causing the others to become tense as they saw her walk into Hailee's room.
"Hi, Mr. and Mrs. Edenshaw", said the Doctor.
"Doctor Smith, please, you know it's Mia and Ben", said her grandmother politely.
Doctor Smith smiled and nodded. "Then you also know it's Theresa"
They smiled and turned back to Hailee. "What's the news Doc?", asked her grandad.
Theresa nodded and looked over the notes again, her facial expressions clearly showing sadness.
"Doctor Smith?", asked her grandmother.
Theresa just looked up at the pair, sincere pain on her face.
"Theresa?", tried her grandmother, desperately grasping on to hope.
She took a deep breath and remained professional. "A-As you know, this is the 4th set of tests we've done and... I'm afraid to say that Hailee's gotten worse..."
Her grandparents looked at eachother before looking at Hailee. "W-What? How do you mean Doctor?"
"...well, the first couple of tests we did showed brain activity in Hailee and the last few tests we did showed a decrease in brain activity"
Her grandad frowned. Years of being in the Army and nothing pained him quite as much. "W-What now, then? How do we fix it?"
The Doctor frowned, looking hopeless.
"No, there has to be some way to fix it", begged her grandmother.
"We have to be 100% certain that when we turn off the machine she'll be breathing for herself and will be alive. That's our best shot at doing more detailed tests to see where we go from there. The reality is that, based on all the tests, if we turn that machine off in say, 10 minutes, Hailee won't be alive. She can't breath on her own, her brain can't function and she won't have long left after they're turned off. I'm so sorry, I really am. You're two of the most incredibly sweetest people I've ever met and all the times Hailee could communicate she made sure we weren't too stressed and genuinely cared. She's a beautifully kind young woman and you should be so proud of her"
A million thoughts spiralled around in their heads. It was enough to send them both into tears, the shock of potentially losing their grandchild so soon was unbearable.
Just outside were the others, who heard it all. Shock, panic and confusion consumed them.
*1 WEEK LATER*
Today was the day that lives would change forever.
"Mr. and Mrs. Edenshaw, I would like to, with regret, discuss the matter of removing Hailee's life support. I know this is an incredibly hard decision to make but I can assure you Hailee will feel now pain", said Doctor Colin.
"C-Can we not postpone it? Do we have to? Sh-she could still get better", said her grandparents.
"I'm afraid that the chances of her getting better are incredibly low. It could be argued that there is a chance but from my view, looking at all the tests there is almost a zero percent chance of her surviving"
*3 DAYS LATER*
After days of thinking and thinking, Hailee's grandparents came to a decision.
They were going to turn off Hailee's life support machine.
They told the others and heartbroken isn't even a strong enough word to describe the emotions everyone felt.
*THE FINAL DAY*
Today was the fated day.
Antonia was in charge of sorting out some music to play near the end. She wanted it to be perfect so thought a lot about what Hailee would like.
"We asked if they could be turned off at 9pm", said her grandad.
"Why 9?", asked Nina, politely.
"That was the time Benny Jr. died", said a boy, walking through the door.
"Tommy?", said Jasper, completely shocked, everyone turning to see him, the same look on their face.
"Hi everyone. Apollo told me about what happened. So I came", said Thomas, his eyes so sad you could tell he cried non stop.
"I'm so sorry Thomas. We wanted to tell you but couldn't bring ourselves to do it", said her grandmother.
"Don't appologise Gran, it's ok, I understand. I'm here now though", he said. He walked to Hailee and looked at her, his eyes filling with tears. He gently kissed her forehead. "I'm here now Hailee... I promise"
The time was now 8: 55 and everyone gathered around Hailee's bed.
They just sat in silence, no doubt all remembering specific moments with Hailee.
Two minutes later, a man and a woman walk in, hurriedly.
"Esme. John.", said her grandad.
"Hi dad", said Hailee's mother, Esme.
They invited her parents. Yes, the one's who disowned her for being a 'disappointment'. At the end of the day, Hailee needed love. They all needed love to see them through these horrid times.
Her parents stared at their beautiful daughter, wishing they had stayed for her bad, good and simply breathtaking parts of life.
Everyone was crying as they watched the clock, and then Hailee.
It was now 8:58 and Antonia scrolled through her phone's music playlist to find the song.
She pressed play and dried her eyes, placing the phone down.
'If I Die Young' played, filling everyone with emotion and sending the tears again.
It was now 9.
Hailee's grandad raised his hand slightly to indicate that now was the time. The strength it took for him to raise his hand, knowing what it would mean was an immense amount.
The Doctor nodded and turned off the machine, removing Hailee's breathing equipment.
Soon, Hailee's heart rate stopped and the monitor beeped it's last.
Everyone held onto eachother a little tighter that night, they told the people in their lives that they loved them more and they remembered the value of friendships.
