9~ In Search Of More Than Hope~ Jughead
I got a call from Veronica. She told me that Kevin had suggested looking around the bunker in the forest. I guess we'll try it out considering we haven't found anything else. As we got closer to the bunker door, we heard something that sounded like a voice. The trees were thick with leaves so we couldn't see anything, so I crept closer to see what it was. When I got close, I saw two people walking around. They were about twenty feet away each from the door to the bunker and both had a knife in their belt. Surprisingly, this was probably it. I told everyone to follow me, and when we got close enough, we split into four different groups. One group was placed in each direction and when I said so, we were going to run in. There were about ten people in each group so it should be easy to infiltrate the place without having any major problems. "Go!" I yelled. Immediately the two people flipped around to see me, but people were already on them. I ran up to the door and slowly started opening it. Everyone quieted down and followed close behind me as I started stepping down the ladder. When I got to the last rung, I jumped down and looked down the short tunnel. It was fairly dark, so my eyes had to adjust. There were about fifteen people in the small room, and they were all staring directly at me. Once my group made it about five feet in, they ran at us and started attacking. I jumped out of the way into the room. Sure enough, I spotted Penny in the back corner standing near a table. She pulled out two knives and ran at me. I pulled out my own just as she sliced the air in front of me. "Jughead Jones," she said. "I guess you finally decided to show up."
"I wouldn't have to if you stopped acting like you own people," I retorted as I threw my knife at her for good measure. It hit the wall behind her and clattered to the ground. I stopped where I was and watched her carefully as she picked the knife up. "Helplessness and hopelessness in their finest forms. Rookie move, Jones," Penny said as she came after me. The knife missed my face and I punched her arm to the side away from me. She stumbled and hit the wall, dropped the knife she was holding in that hand, and turned around. She then threw the other one at me, but I ducked out of the way and it hit the table behind me. Penny pulled the last knife she had, my knife, out of her belt and came at me with it. She swung as hard as she could and finally hit me; the knife made contact with my arm. It hit right below my elbow and went in deep. I cursed in pain and stumbled back, hitting the wall. I sunk to the floor as I held my deep wound tightly. She walked in front of me and examined her bloody knife. "You fell faster than I expected," she said. I glanced up at her and winced. Suddenly out of the corner of my eye I saw something. I looked at it quickly and realized it was someone creeping up on Penny. Penny saw me glance at the person behind her and started turning around to see what I had looked at. "What?" she said before getting hit in the head. The sound of metal colliding with her head made my ears ring. She fell to the ground, immediately going unconscious. I looked up to see who the person was as they dropped the small metal pipe and sat down in front of me. "Juggie," Betty said.
"Betty," I said surprised but glad to see her. "You're a sight for sore eyes." She stood up and helped me up, then pulled me into a close hug. "Your arm," she said with a worried expression.
"I'm fine. Come on, let's get out of here before backup comes," I said taking her hand. We climbed up the ladder easily since no one was fighting anymore. The Serpents had greatly outnumbered the Ghoulies that were in the bunker, so they didn't have too much of a problem. "I'm so glad to see you," Betty told me. She leaned in and kissed me softly then wrapped her arms around me as she leaned her head on my shoulder. We sat there for a minute until the commotion quieted down around us. "We have to take you to the hospital," Betty said. "Okay, but they have to have a look at you too," I responded. "I love you." "Love you too," she said back. I turned to the Serpents and the remaining Ghoulies that weren't unconscious. "Tie them up. Take them back to camp and someone call my dad so he can take care of them. Maybe he can get where more Ghoulies are out of them," I ordered the Serpents. They all nodded and went to work.
