The Battle

The day had come. When the sun raised, everybody knew the moment had arrived. They got weapons, armors and courage. The elves and the people of Dale were ready to reclaim what they though it was theirs. When Bard woke up, Ethiriel was already gone. He got dressed as fast as he could and went back right where his son and daughters slept. They were still sleeping. He had no other option than wake them up and prepare them. He told them to eat something quickly and then get some weapons. Bain had chosen a bow and some arrows.

-Why do we need weapons up here, father? - asked Sigrid.

Bard felt he had to tell them. He didn't want them to be in shook when the moment happened.

-Look, we are not just going to ask to the dwarves to give us the gold. Something bigger is going to happen. There are armies coming here with another propose. They are coming to hurt us. So, I'm forced to ask you to be careful. Today you might need to defend ourselves, because I don't know where I'll be.

His children got scare instantly. He was asking a big deal for them: survive.

-I promise you I'll come back by your side. Nothing will happen to you.

Bard was riding a horse side by side with Thranduil, who was riding a big white reindeer. Gandalf, on the other side, was walking with Ethiriel and Bilbo by both sides. Ethiriel got some new arrows and, as a gift from the wizard, an elvish sword.

-I hope Thorin accepts the deal - said Bilbo.

-I do as well, Mr. Baggins - sighed Gandalf.

The armies of men and elves walked until arrived at the Erebor entrance. There were arguments, anger and feelings of betray. Thorin Oakenshield did not take so well the acts of the innocent hobbit. He expelled him from Erebor, only because he was going to kill him. Between Thranduil and Thorin grew a very tense moment. The hate could be seen. Thranduil was almost going to started the war. Gandalf was begging once again to not do that. They'd lose soldiers for nothing. But it was dwarves' time. The leader from Iron Foot arrived, and with him, a giant army of dwarves. Armed even in the teeth. He started speaking with a nice tone, but it was all sarcasm. Soldiers from Iron Foot started running against the elvish army.

-Stop this right now! - yelled Gandalf, but he wasn't listened.

A part of both armies fought, until they heard it. A horn. An orc horn. And they saw it: an army of orcs coming from the south.

The war started. Ethiriel was fighting next to Gandalf and Bilbo. Thorin and the company kept their doors closed to the outside world. They were not happy about not helping with the fight, but it was Thorin's decision.

-To the city! - yelled Gandalf to Bilbo and Ethiriel.

She could felt the anger of fighting through her blood. She was quick and mortal with any move. They arrived at Dale, the same moment the orcs did. People from Dale couldn't stop screaming and trying to find safety. Ethiriel was fighiting while she had in mind Bard. She did not stop looking him with the eyes. At Dale, Ethiriel and Bilbo lost Gandalf.

-I'll find him! - Bilbo yelled at her.

-Bilbo! You can't do it alone!

-Believe me, I'm safe!

It was too late to reply anything. Bilbo was already gone. Ethiriel started to protect people. She sent all women and children to the major building. She was doing great until she saw a big troll in front of her. She got hurt when that thing pushed her against a wall. She ran and fought him until his death.

-Ethiriel! - she heard a girl's voice.

It was Sigrid, Bard's daughter. Ethiriel looked at her better and realized the three of them were running into her.

-What are you doing here? Come on, go the major building! Now! - she yelled.

-Where's our father? - asked Bain.

-I don't know, but he's fine. Come on, go now!

Bain guided his sisters to where Ethiriel said. They moved because they wanted to find Bard, such an unconscious thing. Ethiriel kept fighting, until she found Gandalf and Bilbo again.

-Ethiriel! Thorin and the Company went out from the Mountain! They're fighting!

-I'll go!

-No! - yelled Gandalf - People need you here in Dale!

At that moment, at the street which was next to where they were, appeared Bard with a crew of mem by his side. They killed a group of orcs. When they were quickly done, Bard noticed Ethiriel's presence. They were looking from the distance and smiled. It was like the simple fact of watching to each other was like seeing a reason to fight. It gave them strength. They started different paths again.

They kept fighting. Until they knew something: Thorin, Fili, Kili and Dwalin were in danger at the Ravenhill. The three found Tauriel and Legolas. They informed the trio about the second great army Bolg was leading from the east. Ethiriel found a few meters away a living horse. She took it quickly and sat on it.

-I must go.

-I'll go with you! - yelled Bilbo desperately.

Ethiriel looked at those eyes full of need. She couldn't say no to that. She grabbed his arm and made him jump on the horse.

-Be careful! - yelled the wizard before fighting against an orc.

Tauriel and Legolas guided them with another horse. They started riding as fast as the horse could. The snow started to be colder and heavier. When they almost arrived at the top, they already heard some goblins yelling and fighting against someone. They fought next to Dwalin and Thorin.

-Bilbo! Ethiriel! - yelled Thorin very happy when they finished the goblins - Thank god I can see you both!

-Where are Fili and Kili? - asked Ethiriel.

-They got in the cliff - answered Dwalin.

-Damn it, no - whispered Bilbo.

-What? What happens? - asked Thorin worried.

-It must be tramp, Thorin. They're leading another

Tauriel started to run by her own, and Legolas behind her. All of them went to rescue the two young dwarves, but meanwhile the started walking though the frozen river, Thorin spoke to Ethiriel.

-Ethiriel, I must tell you something. I'm so sorry.

-Not now, Thorin - she asked.

-If it's not now, It might be never. I must ask you to forgive me for the way I treated you yesterday. You surely did not deserved it. You helped me, and I act like a fool. I'm sorry.

Ethiriel felt glad hearing those words from Thorin. She instantly forgot him, so she smiled at him to make him know. When all things were said, screams were listened from the distance. All ran faster and got in the cliff. Ethiriel followed Thorin, who was looking for Fili with Bilbo. Dwalin started looking for Kili with Legolas and Tauriel. Ethiriel fought against the firsts orcs they found.

-FILI! - yelled Thorin again and again in order to found him faster.

They found him, in Azog's hands. Thorin felt the anger and grabbed harder Orcrist. The pale orc was going to kill the young dwarf, but he had no time. Ethiriel left go away an arrow which got Azog's arm. Because of the pain, he left Fili. He started to run as fast as he could to be by his uncle's side. And they did.

-Go - said Thorin without taking his eyes away from Azog's.

-Wh.. What? No, We are not leaving you here alone with that thing - said Bilbo, almost upset.

-Bilbo... - called him Ethiriel, it was something Thorin requested and they had to accomplish.

-No! No! No! He almost killed you once! Oh, no! My pardon! Twice! - yelled Bilbo.

-I really appreciate your honesty and your care, Mr. Baggins - smiled Thorin -. But it is me who must do this.

Ethiriel felt bad for what the little hobbit was feeling for Thorin. Bilbo was upset. He felt like leaving Thorin alone with Azog was like already killing him. Thorin smiled at Bilbo and said one more time:

-Go, Mr. Baggins.

Ethiriel had no choice than catch Bilbo's hand and run away. They had to fight against the hole army of orcs that was coming.

-I'm glad to see you again, Ethiriel - smiled while he was fighting Fili.

She was so distracted about killing that she didn't even notice that Bilbo had disappeared. Ethiriel was trying to protect at any moment Fili's life. It was essential.

They fought, and fought, and fought. Ethiriel could feel her body already feeling pain. She got some cuts and punches. But the pain wasn't for that. The battle lasted ten continued hours. And she did not stop for any moment. Kili and Fili were saved. For Kili's life, Tauriel had to pay a prize. Her body was badly injured and felt heavier. Kili was doing anything else that protecting her from anyone, as Legolas was doing. It seemed like the battle was arriving at its own ending. Almost all the orcs were killed. Almost. Thorin was still fighting against Azog. When Fili went to his brother's side, Ethiriel started to look for Bilbo. She got very anxious, but it was easy to find him if he wasn't moving at all. He was starting to wake up and the first thing he saw was Ethiriel's smile.

-E... E...thiriel... - he said still recovering.

-Don't move - ordered to him.

Ethiriel had to see how Thorin was. When she got to see the river, she had no doubt to use again her bow. Thorin was between the frozen river and Azog's sword. Thorin was using his own to separate himself from the orc. Ethiriel shot one only arrow, shooting right in Azog's arm where he had the sword. The pale orc screamed of pain and suffer, but he stopped when he felt Orcrist cutting his throat in a move. Azog fell at his knees and Thorin achieved to drop him down and stab his sword in Azog's chest. Ethiriel walked fast in order to see if Thorin was ok.

-It was mine. I almost got him by myself - he said with a very deeper and tired breathing.

-He was going to kill you.

-I know.

Ethiriel realized it was Thorin's intention. He wanted to give his life if it was the only way to kill the pale orc. But he didn't. Ethiriel saved him.
