He wasn't a fan on winter.
He knew most loved how pure the snow may seem.
He knew many admired how pretty snow could be.
As well as Christmas always being adored.
But snow left the roofs slippery and dangerous.
The drop in temperature left soldiers slow and lacking in skill.
Christmas left many thinking over home, over their families and leaving most of those with rank to have to write a letter apologising over the lost of life to their love ones.
He never had liked Winter, not even when he held a birthday during it.
He's experimented brighter birthdays since meeting her.
He's felt warmer holidays since falling in love with her.
He's finally seen the beauty that snow has blessed them all when it falls.
But he still wasn't much of a fan for winter.
The season always left him with more paperwork than he'd prefer.
Either paperwork involving with soldiers getting injured or writing those sad letters to their love ones over their passing.
Winter brought as much misery as it did joy.
New years were worse in his eyes.
Too many would drink.
Grow drunk from happiness or despair, depending how much they've gained or lost so close to the holidays.
It meant he was trapped picking up soldiers slack or dealing out punishments to those who deserved a break but passed the line.
Winter wasn't for him all the time.
Just as he found himself on new years eve and dealing with titans during the day.
Slashing at nape after nape with less than half of the expected soldiers due to winters effects.
He was overworked and still expected to give out the best results as any other season.
It's why it had caught his eyes so quickly.
Relacing his blades and preparing to leap from the rooftop, deal with the titan that had foolishly stood with it's back to him.
His eyes focusing on the engraved words on both his words.
Reading them in mind alone, his heart growing rapidly once he finished the question.
Breath of misty cloud escaping his lips as he took in the meaning to the question.
WIll YOU MArrY ME
Two words each were carved into his next set of blades. The words a mixture of lower and capital letters, whatever the person who engraved the question found easier at the time.
He let his mind go blank, leaping from the rooftop and dealing with the last titan before him.
Knowing he needed to stay alive to be able to answer her question once he returns to camp.
Heading back to camp and hurrying to his officer to finish up the days reports first. Knowing if he worked on them now, he'll be able to reach the food hall for supper. Glancing to the barely worn blades he had signed out and would keep in his office for the rest of his days as a soldier.
Glancing to the two blades between each report before thinking over the question still asked to him. Reaching for one of his tea cups before halting for the tea pot when something rattled in his tea up.
Leaning over his desk and glancing down into his teacup to find a silver ring, his size, lazing inside and awaiting to either be placed on or returned to the person who bought it.
His want for tea forgotten as he hurried back to his reports. Glancing between the swords to the teacup between every couple of sentences he writes up.
An answer coming to mind as he finally leaves his office, heading to gain his supper for the night.
Walking past the person who've been courting him for the past three years table. Noticing them surrounded by their clueless friends and slipping a piece of paper in front of them as he walked past without a care.
Keeping his eyes focused on the line ahead, hearing the paper rattle as she unfolds it.
"Did you just write me up for destroying scout property? And write you answer on the back of the write up?!" Mikasa yells back unimpressed as she reads up the write up given to her, having notice the single word written on the folded back.
He only smirked, giving a slight wave over his shoulder and showing the silver ring fitting perfectly on his ring finger.
A simple "Yes" left written on the back of her write up that a copy will be added to her file for the destruction of survey scouts property, the blades.
He was wooed by her proposal but he wasn't going to simply overlook the broken rules just because her finally accepted her courting and accepted being her husband in the near future.
He knew by morning the whole camp will be gossiping over the latest engagement and he'll steal her away for breakfast in the close by town, his own gift to her for the new years.
He was looking forward to starting the new year with a new step in his life, hoping that by the next new year, he'd be entering it as a husband to his wife.
