Her mother died giving her life. The pregancy was smooth and rather easy apperently and everything was expected to carry on going so well during labour. But something happened and my mother died giving me life.
I was given the mercy of losing my mother before I had the chance to truly love her and to know her better.
I only felt guilt for never getting to meet my mother, not for her death. I never truly loved her like my father and brother did but I did respect her as my mother.
I had always wished for a love as strong and powerful as my parents had. My brother didn't believe it but he was birthed by a different mother to my own. His mother was our father's childhood sweetheart and they had adored each other .. until they didn't.
They married young and growing up changes people. My father became more mature but kinder and worked hard in life. My brother's mother had became a nasty drunk not long after giving birth to my brother. Some assumed she had gained the baby blues and my father did his best to help.
But she had rejected the help just as she rejected my father's love and her own son in her life. She chose to drink than to keep her own family. My father took my brother and left, wanted to give the best life he could for my brother and protect him from a loveless family.
It's how he met my mother, my brother was only two at the time and she had placed a plaster on his grazed knee when he tripped over in the shop. My own mother seemed to be rather clumsy and always carried a small first aid kit in her bad for such moments.
My brother had foolishly assumed she was some knight in shining armour and dragged her quickly to our father in hopes she'd rescue our father from his own sadness. And the best part was that she indeed did.
They didn't marry, not only because my father was unable to devoice his first wife before she got herself killed by drunk driving accident. He was frighten over rushing into marrige and losing someone he loves a second time. He wasn't as strong as everyone thought his golden hearted self was, he couldn't risk being hurt again.
But my mother had loved him until the end and never needed a ring to prove such a fact. She knew he loved her and they both cherished and spoiled my brother rotten.
My brother watched as their love grew and formed, too young to understand it at first but as he grew up he believed that two people could find happiness in their lives and love. But he didn't believe in a love so strong and powerful that it was worth breaking ones heart over and forcing themselves to suffer until their last breath.
I disagreed. Some love is worth fighting for no matter how much it hurts doing so.
And I still stand by it, after all the pain given to me.
I met him after my father had suddenly vanished before being reported dead. He was seen as some criminal and the world had turned to hate our name without much warning.
No other family left my brother and myself in the foster system but no one wanted children of a criminal so hated by the world.
But we both knew he wasn't truly dead, our father was smart and kind and he'd never leave them behind. He had promised them so many times after they've woken from a nightmare in the past.
She kept her faith in her father's promise and believed her brother's own words to never be left behind again.
But he had broken such a promise as did their father.
Once he turned eighteen, a legal adult to the eyes of the world, he left the orphanage.
No goodbye, no letters and never returning to collect her once he settled down like he had promised as well.
She waited.
Knew it might take years but time she turned eighteen and found that he had simply disappeared for good .. she understood the pain of losing someone she loves all over again.
But she was stubborn and knew that both of her lasting family members were somewhere out there.
She had searched and explored everything and anywhere for clues on either one of them.
She learnt to survive on the streets, learnt to run them and slip into the shadows to hear the real gossip of the world.
She was alone, left behind to wait for their return.
But she wasn't going to be a damsel in distress either and she'd be the knight they both needed her to be.
She met him by mistake.
He had somehow been a spy for some hidden group within the government.
He was on very long leave for a personal mission, a mission she half joined as the end result was her brother.
She hid her hurt when she learnt that her brother had never mentioned her to his dearest friend and that he had created a whole new life for himself without a second thought to her. She was left waiting for someone who wasn't ever going to return unless she found him first.
At first she wondered if it was simply due to some silly spy rules. Over being a ghost in the world and holding no ties to someone. But it simply wasn't true, Levi, the man known to be her brother's friend had told her the truth. Many of them had families, love ones and old friends. They lived a double life but could still live.
Falling in love as hard as she did wasn't planned.
Neither for him falling for her in return.
They were meant to be no more than comrades after the same guy.
Not to feel warmth in their chests whenever their gaze landed on the other.
To feel their heart skip a beat whenever they heard their names spoken by the other.
To want nothing more than to join their lips for desperate but gentle kisses.
Neither planned to fall in but they did.
And they found her missing family.
Both her father and her brother.
Both who had worked for the same company before finding evidence over a dangerous weapon and went to stop it from happening. Both seen as traitors and "killed off" to stop anyone else looking for them.
She had helped rescue her family.
Levi, stepped to the side and staring at her with admiration as she took down half the guards down by herself without killing a single one. Knocking out the main boss with a punch he taught her and still looked like the most beautiful person afterwards.
She couldn't help but tear up at seeing those she loves again and sprinted without regret to wrap her arms around them both.
They never hugged back, their eyes shifted into such coldness that even Levi stepped back from where he stood far back as it was already.
She broke the hug, confused and frighten over such a reaction but shook it off. She wasn't sure what had happened to them both during their imprisonment and simply needed rest for now.
But the coldness turned into anger after two days at resting in Levi safe house. All of them fully rested and prepared to discus what happens next now they took down the company and exposed all the truths they held.
She stayed silent, hiding her hurt once again as she was seen as an problem not their daughter or sister.
She didn't speak a word as she heard them leave in the middle of the night.
Neither said goodbye, no letter or even gave her one last chance to hug them one last time.
Levi told her the truth.
Told them that neither one wanted her dragged into such a dangerous life style.
That they left to protect her but both deemed that it was better for her to hate them instead of knowing the truth.
She never hated them, she wished she could.
But she had already understood their reasoning to leave without her beloved telling her so.
She got use to the pain of being left behind.
It had hurt less the third time around and she wasn't sure if she should see that as lucky or not.
She could find some happiness in life, she had Levi still.
He's lost a family before, he wouldn't force her that fate a fourth time.
Until he did.
A strange parcel had came one day.
They had started up their own school with his savings.
They weren't making super spies but giving children who were lost and scared and forced to train from ages to become guard dogs for the government or perfect soldiers.
Their school taught them to feel human and get better control over the skills brain washed into them. They gave them a chance to be real children and act their age, to protect other's in their shoes instead of being the weapon they were forced to be.
It had worked.
They were happy.
And her pain had became a numbness in the back of her heart because she stayed focus on the good.
Until her beloved had left her too.
She was left behind.
Broken and left waiting for a man she already knew wasn't going to return.
But she still loves him, kept their school, their home and their new family thriving while she waited for him to come home.
He promised not to leave her, to not force her to lose another person she loves.
Her shattered heart had forced her to hang onto that promise.. even until she was old and grey.
She stayed waiting for him.. until all those promises in her past and finally been proven to be broken promises.
But even still, the love had been worth all the pain in her life.
Even if she did die alone, laying with the betrayals wrapping around her soul as her final breath was taken.
