"Don't you think you look rather shameless?" Erwin asked as he, Ackerman and Hanji was walking towards the main building.
Ackerman glanced down to herself, sure she took her jacket and gear off, leaving them in her room once the wolf and his sheep was taken away. She wasn't going to carry around the heavy gear if she didn't need to. It was a warm day so she left her jacket behind as well but she was still dressed in the rest of her uniform, even had her straps still on.
"You never comment over her outfits before" Hanji commented as she glanced to the commander, rather confused over the random comment.
"I mean allowing herself to be injured so easily. What are you trying to prove by letting all see that cut under your eye, you're making us look extremely weak" Erwin snapped back, stopping in his tracks and turning towards Ackerman who stood unbothered.
"Makes him look rather strong, I would say" Ackerman simply answered. She knew Erwin plans for Levi, he was going to be the new hero that everyone wished over, he'll gain respect and love for the survey corps thanks to them using his inhuman skills. She was already a monster on the surface making her never be chosen as the hero role, people feared and hated her.
"Strong? She's not wrong, if he landed a brutally attack enough to make her bleed, he holds talent" Hanji spoke up, questioning Ackerman first before helping to make Levi look even better than he most likely was. Feeding into Erwin pride over finding his prize.
"Hmm, I agree. He may just be the hero we need him to seem. Make sure other's hear over Levi being the one to cut Ackerman, make it clear she had fallen to him" Erwin ordered, rubbing his chin as a pleased look fill his eyes.
"Fallen to him, that's a little much don't you think. They're both fighters and MA was the one to win. She'll be laughed at if people learn she's fallen by a hero, she might be pushed around a little" Hanji spoke up, a worried smile on her lips as Ackerman would be looked down on if people thought she lost to just some random person who would soon be seen as a hero. Her life was hard already by other's hating her but now it will grow worse.
"Why not let him defeat me completely, a hero who defeats the village. Not all our enemies are the titans, we all already know this. So, why not prove he's a hero to humanity and let him slay demon" Ackerman offered calmly, speaking like she just passed on a shopping list instead of offering her death.
"No, MA, we can't!" Hanji cried back, she wasn't going to just let murder happen to make the Survey Corps happen.
"Yes, I agree. We can't have you be killed off by Levi, your skills are still much needed within the survey corps. If we lose you than we're back to only having one skilled soldier. But maybe we can have him steal your thunder during the next expedition, we'll make him the hero we need him to be and have you as his side kick" Erwin spoke, crossing his arms and nodding over his thoughts while Hanji let a breath of relief out over Ackerman not being sacrificed.
"I'll be having leave tomorrow" Ackerman commented out of the blue, changing the topic as she heard as much as she needed until Erwin was ready to pass on the form plan to her.
"No, rejected. You won't be leaving this camp until we've made Levi the hero we need. That's an order" Erwin replied without a second thought making Ackerman stare at him before silently nodding.
Hanji and Ackerman stayed still as Erwin started walking once more, clearly heading straight to his office to do some private thinking over the future plans to try and make Levi into a hero. Hanji waited until Erwin was out of sight before turning to the younger women beside her.
"MA, why did you lie to him?" Hanji finally asked, keeping her eyes locked on Ackerman and ready to take in any signs of emotions or reaction she could, even the tiniest hint of either.
"Lie?" Ackerman repeated with her emotionless expression.
"Levi is strong, you've admitted that already but the cut under your eye. Levi was checked over while he was still knocked out, just like his friends. But apart from a couple growing bruises, he didn't have any real injures. You wouldn't just get injured without giving something back and those bruises are a little older than your cut meaning you did nothing to repay him after. I'm no fool" Hanji replied, waving her right hand around as she talked and looked to the floor than back to Ackerman.
"It was as I knocked him out, my quick movement and his delayed reaction was the reason his knife gave me such a deep slash. He wanted to kill me but he wasn't' ready to cut me like this, It was my own doing" Ackerman answered as she glanced to the sky, looking at the grey clouds above.
"I see, and why haven't you tried patching it up. You've cleaned it up but hasn't gone to see a doctor over it ... are you hoping for it to scar?" Hanji commented unsure, trying to study the women before her but failing.
"It made me feel human, he made me bleed but he looked at me like I was just human all along. I was alive in his eyes and it made me believe what he saw" Ackerman whispered, lowing her head as her she lifted her hand to her cut, feeling it a little.
"Maybe he can become someone special if he's made you feel human by a single fight. I'll be cheering you on but just known, you'll always be number one in my eyes. No matter how much Erwin makes him a hero, you're still the true prince in shining armour" Hanji cheekily grinned, playfully punching Ackerman arm as she gave a shy nod.
"I'll think over getting close to him, to test my theory over him being different as long as you make a move on Moblit" Ackerman offered, placing a hand on her hip as Hanji froze up.
"MA, it's not that easy .. we're both soldiers and in the survey corps. He works under me and cares for me but one day .. I might have to be the one to kill him not a titan. I couldn't face killing him if I promise to forever love him" Hanji sighed, rubbing the back of her neck as pain filled her eyes.
"I've been alone for a long time now, I don't accept friends or comrades because they only die around. I've been stained in so much blood that I don't even know what it feels like to be human. But, if I got the chance to love someone as much as you do with Moblit and have them love me back the same, I would take the risk. Take it because once they're gone .. you'll only have the memories left and if you don't take the chance to love them, you won't even have the memories you both wish to have" Ackerman spoke, placing a hand on Hanji shoulder and giving her a bit of advice after all her years of watching others.
"You'll find that person to love, fate has a funny way of making such events happen in our lives" Hanji promised with a sweet smile, patting Ackman head a little.
"If I learnt to love, I wouldn't ever stop loving that person even when death takes them from me. Maybe it's time for you to stop fearing the future with them and enjoy the present with them" Ackerman replied, removing her hand from Hanji shoulder and started walking once more.
