She had thirteen years left to live, only thirteen and yet she wasn't scared of death.
She would take her finale breath at the age of twenty five.
She lost any chance of a family when the walls broke, killing her second family, killing her adopted brother and her new friend she gained in her life.
She was only nine when she lost her first family to the slave traders and she was only ten when she lost the second chance in life when titans killed her second family before her.
She was alone, shoved on a boat and wondering why she was even bothering to live anymore. But she knew if she died, than all and every memories of those she loved would die with her.
She had to selfishly carry on living, if she could call her third chance in life as living anymore.
She was only twelve years old when an MP found her, she was fighting and mugging the rich to pay for her next meal.
She was good but she only a child.
She was offered a hand by a man named Rod Reiss, the MP passing her to him once he learnt over her last name.
She was only twelve but she was no fool to lies, to tricks or to cruelness of life.
She had to accept or die and she promised she won't die just yet.
So, she was given thirteen years.
Trained to be the perfect pet, loyal but deadly.
It was fine, she didn't mind being a titan shifter or killing those she was sent to kill.
She was good at it and grew to be the perfect pet that obeyed all orders given to her .. well, most of them.
She was sent to the Survey Crops once she was eighteen years old.
Given a fake idea that held a soldier id number, her real name placed over the card and a new fake file added to the pile or new cadets joining the SC.
She didn't even wonder over the soldier she had just replaced, she never asked or learnt the name of the poor soldier who was killed just for his soldier id. No friends or family will ever know about his fate because his body was long gone and destroyed to stop anyone from recognizing them and pulling out a search on who replaced them in the ranks.
She had a single order, to kill Captain Levi.
She wondered not Commander Erwin but apparently no one passed Levi and even with her powers she won't reach the commander. But it made sense why she had to Kill Levi, to kill the humanity strongest, the hero that all cheered for and loved.
Kill Levi and Erwin life is for the taking, after all .. get rid of the guard dog and the owner will be defenceless. Plus, a shocked owner who cries over the lost of his pet life is much easier to break apart.
So, she played soldier.
She met Levi, catching his eye and knowing he didn't trust her.
She loved to get under his skin, to irate him and making him glare harder than ever.
She would always just glare back, watching him retreat with a smirk as he knew he held better rank and couldn't be seen facing their mini war in public.
But she was always public, he had no chance at destroying her like she was with him.
Sure, extra cleaning duties, extra training and becoming his partner in hand n hand combat because his punishments but it was only a bit of fun for her.
Sure, she didn't enjoy always losing in those fights but it also taught her over his he fought, how he moved and how he felt. His eyes stayed on her, hooked and ready to pull the line back to catch her.
He just had no clue he was the fish she was fishing for not the other way around.
Maybe she was having too much fun with him because she got an ugly remainder of her orders by an unwanted visitor on her day off. Seems her master wasn't enjoying how long his pet was taking with her hunt.
She would have loved to remind him that all his other pets have fallen prey to Levi already, she had survived the longest and made much better work of him already than anyone else ever could.
But she kept her mouth silent, taking the warning by the follower sent to tighten her leash for her master.
So, she took a risk.
The night before the expedition she took a visit to her captain office, a bottle of stolen wine in her hands.
She knocked like a good little soldier before just walking in as he asked for name, he gave his much beloved glare towards her and getting ready to snarl at her over just doing as she liked.
But she just smirked and placing the bottle of wine down on his table before sitting down on one of the chairs in front of his desk as he raised a curious eyebrow.
"I'll be leaving tomorrow, thought I'll let you know since I'm sure you'll miss our little game. It's been oddly exciting, you've grown on me in a way and I do look forward to our next life ... maybe we go full out without any chains holding us back" She spoke first, crossing her left leg over her right and waving her hand lazily for him to open the bottle of wine.
She already knew that he knew the wine was stolen.
"Leaving rather soon, haven't even stayed long enough to face my full wrath" He scoffed back, a slight smirk on his lips why he leaned forward and checked the bottle over. Clearly checking to see if she messed with it before giving a slight nod in accepting the fact she hadn't done anything to it.
She stayed silent, watching him open it before he grabbed two tea cups from his draw and placed them on his desk. Pouring them a cup each but not even bothering to pass her a cup as he took his own.
"Not speaking, not even with your eyes. Oooh, I do fear it's a true farewell .. might miss us trying to kill each other" Levi sassed, an amused smirk on his lips but his eyes held a slight concern over her actions.
"I already know that the Survey Corps have learnt over Titan Shifters and I will give you a single warning with three names. Annie Leonhart, Bertholdt Hoover and Reiner Braun. You met at least one of them outside the walls I would think by now. The walls will fall but I expect you to save them, Levi .. do try not to displease me" Mikasa warned as she leaned forward, sliding her hand over his and slowly taking the tea cup from him.
His eyes watching her every moment, his lips staying in a tight line why his ears took on the information. His mind remembering every detail of the women before him and every word she just spoke.
He watched as she sipped from the teacup, she held real manners and could most likely become a proper lady if she ever came from a household name. His other hand reaching for the second cup, taking hold of it before sipping the wine as he knew he need a distraction from the dangerous lioness just on the other side of his desk.
"A shame, truly. I would really wish to have taken you on a little more roughly but guess fate isn't kind enough to let us twirl our hearts anymore" Mikasa sighed, standing up once more and placing her empty cup on the table and taking one last look at the captain before her who dropped his tea cup and looking at her with wide horrified eyes.
One hand grabbed at his throat as he choked, the other grabbing at his head to try and stop the burning pain somehow. His eyes never leaving her as she just frowned, a slight regret in her eyes over their farewell.
"Erwin was never my target" Mikasa finally answer his unasked question before she left, closing the door without a sound behind her and leaving the camp without a single sound.
She became a ghost among the wind, no one knew her, no one saw her and she would forever only be a whisper they hear at night.
