Summary: Levi and Mikasa were childhood friends, after Mikasa found him unconscious in a field. The duo join the 104th Trainees Squad, and later on the Survey Corps. Levi finds a new girl to be fond of, thus leaving Mikasa for three years. Levi doesn't realize what he had done immediately, but soon enough knows.
Note: Levi is a bit taller than Mikasa, and there will likely be a Part 2.
Recommended: Listen to "Sad Song" by We The Kings. Also, I recommend using the New Times Roman font if you can, because there will be italics and it doesn't mostly work on other fonts. The settings for fonts is probably only on the app, but idk

"Are you okay?"
Once Levi's vision cleared, he saw a girl kneeling next to him. He rubbed his eye, propping his back onto a tree. He must've looked puzzled, because then she then said, "I walked passed here and you were unconscious. Thought I might help you."
The girl helped him up after standing up herself, and Levi could notice was that she was pretty. "I'm Mikasa by the way." She smiled slightly. He felt his cheeks getting warm.
"Why are you alone?" He asked. Her eyes grew dark. "A few days ago my parents were murdered... These men were trying to kidnap me and I guess I escaped."
"Wow..." He murmured.
"Well, I guess I'll get going then." Mikasa said, wiping the dirt off her dress.
"Wait. Do you have a place to stay?"
She shook her head, raising an eyebrow on where this was going.
"I know a place. Follow me." Levi grabbed her hand, before realizing what he was doing. Mikasa had a tint of pink on her cheeks.
He blinked, then with his hand still locked in her's, and lead her to a small house. "Do you live here?" She asked.
"No. This is my mom's house. She died a couple of years ago."
"Oh... I'm sorry."
"It's fine."
The whole day had passed, and Mikasa noticed she still didn't know his name. He was doing things for her like giving her a roof to live under, but all she knew about him was a murdered mother.
"What's your name?" She asked out of the blue.
"Huh?"
"Your name... What is it?"
"Rivallie..." He answered. She saw his face going red, and as if he noticed, he looked down.
"Hey, it's fine." Mikasa reassured.
"What?"
"To blush."
He murmured something, too quiet for Mikasa to hear.
"Don't be nervous around me." Mikasa gently touched his hand, while looking at him.
"Okay. That would help." He said, not making eye contact.
Corners of her lips curled. Mikasa could see a slight grin on his face, and thought 'You know, he might not be so bad...'

"Levi, are you sure about this?" Mikasa asked.
He nodded. "Yeah. I don't want to be a bystander of this hellhole."
"I'm coming with you."
"What? You don't have to-"
"I want to. Okay?" Mikasa interrupted.
"Yeah."
--
Three years later, they were in the Scout Regiment. Levi wanted to see action, while Mikasa wanted to end the threat.
"We made it." Levi sighed in relief.
Mikasa nodded. "You know, this might not be so bad."
Before the conversation could go on any longer, a girl with bright brown hair came up to them. "Hi! I'm Petra. I chose the Scouts too."
"I'm Mikasa." She said.
Levi was quiet. Mikasa nudged him slightly, signaling him to introduce himself.
"I-I'm Levi." He gulped.
"Mikasa!" A loud voice called.
Mikasa turned around, seeing the brunette. "What do you need Hanji?"
"Captain Erwin wants you. He said something about talking to you about battle strategy."
"Why me?"
"Because you're the best of the best!" Hanji exclaimed, a psychotic look in her eyes.
"Okay. Let's go then." Mikasa said, following Hanji towards the Captain's office.
Levi watched Mikasa walk through a door, and was about to go after her but then realizing Petra was still with him.
Levi's cheeks grew hot, glancing at Petra.

And like that, Levi forgot about all the times he spent with Mikasa. A three years had passed by quickly, from one expedition to another. Each day made him forget every memory of Mikasa. He never laid eyes on her, or even talked to the black haired girl.
Mikasa found friends. She met two boys, one called Eren and another called Armin, who she grew fond of. She became over protective over the two sometimes, but they understood that she just didn't want them to get hurt, or worse, die.
Levi was now with Petra, an unstoppable team. Well, one thing they weren't invincible to was Mikasa's determination and skill. Levi was quick and agile, Mikasa on the other had had a battle plan in her head. All mapped out to each moment something could go wrong. The only thing that was in Levi's mind was Petra.
Sure enough one day came where Rivallie began to see what he'd been missing out on. His eyes spotted the girl, heading towards her. He noticed two boys and Hanji with her, questioning what had gone through her life.
"Mikasa?"
Mikasa turned around and looked at him. "Hey." She muttered.
"Can I talk to you for a second?"
She nodded, following him to behind a wall. "What's been going on in your life?" He asked, awkwardly.
She shrugged. "Not much." Mikasa fiddled with her sleeves. "Anything else you wanted to talk about?"
"No..."
"Well, I'll see you." She turned away, walking to the group of friends she had.
"Why isn't she talking much?" He asked himself quietly.
He examined the lack of emotion on her face and the way she talked. Her face was still, not showing a smile he had always known her for.
After a few weeks, Mikasa passed by him with cuts, bruises and bloody bandages around her. He stopped her in her tracks.
"What happened to you?" He asked, concerned.
Mikasa stumbled on her words. "Three fifteen meter Titans got a hold of me. I killed two but then the last one attacked me and stuff." She tried walking away but Levi grabbed her arm.
"Why are you becoming distant?"
"There's no reason Rivallie."
"How many expeditions did I miss?"
"Twenty-six." She answered.
He was surprised. Because Levi usually stuck around with Petra, he realized how long it had been since he went on an expedition. "The next expedition is in a few days. It's your choice if you want to come or not. There won't be much to do because of the minimal amount of Titans that are left." Mikasa explained.
"Sorry I couldn't come I was just-"
"I know. Petra is important to you. She's sick and it's your job to protect her."
"But still if I would've come-"
"I'm not ten years old Rivallie. I can take care of myself and live my own life like how you are. Don't worry about me." She said softly.
"Are you sure?"
She nodded, a stern look in her face. "Like I said, it's your choice if you want to join in or not. Besides, it's better to take care of Petra. She's worth staying. There's only one of Petra. Don't leave her."
"Mikasa I-"
"I don't need protecting. Protect Petra." She smiled slightly.
"You're becoming different Mikasa... Why?"
"Guess."

It was the 62nd Expedition, and Levi was nowhere in sight. Mikasa didn't bother to look for him, knowing he was doing what he was told.
"You nervous?" She asked Eren.
"No. On the other hand..." Eren looked back at the blond boy freaking out.
"Armin, don't worry. There's a small chance someone is going to die." Mikasa said.
"I'm not worried about that." Armin stammered. "What if there's nothing? We wasted hundreds of lives! What if it's only Titan territory? We'll all gonna die!" He said quickly, putting his hands on the sides of his head.
"There is somewhere better than here. You said it yourself! Your parents who died, wanted to see outside the walls. Are you really going to give up what your parents expect from you? Even though they're dead they would want you to see." Eren said, clenching his fists.
"Eren-" Mikasa tried stopping him.
"It's fine Mikasa. He's right." Armin tilted his head up and looked at the two.
"Open the gate!" They heard Erwin shout.
Mikasa checked for Levi, just in case, but he still wasn't here. She could see the room that Petra was in, including Levi who was standing, looking outside the window.
She shook her head, scrapping out the idea of Levi seeing her. "Something wrong?" Eren asked her, right before they went off.
"No." She lied.

If Mikasa could describe the sixty-second expedition in one word, it would be 'blood'.
Almost three-fourths of the Cadets were wiped out. Because of the limited amount of space available for corpses, they had to dump every single body away.
The only thing making sound was the horses galloping. She looked back, seeing Armin and Eren with depressed faces. She wondered what she would've done if Eren and Armin were the ones that had to be left lifeless on the ground.
When the few Scouts left(including her) made it through the gates leading to a village. Crowds of people gathered around, making way for them to pass. Her head throbbed, trying to ignore the angry citizens asking if it was worth the lives wasted.
She knew Eren was hesitating a speech about how it was a noble cause. Mikasa bit her lip, trying not to faint in exhaustion. She tasted something salty, knowing it was blood.
As they made their way towards headquarters, she saw a familiar face that almost made her fall off the horse.
Levi...
Levi was there staring at her in horror. She didn't dare look at him, knowing the lecture she was going to receive.
"Mikasa?"
The black haired girl drove her attention to him and Petra. They were walking alongside her asking what happened.
"There were more Titans." She said, summarizing the event.
"I thought-"
Mikasa cut Petra off. "It was like a whole village of Titans... There was grass and a body of water, and we weren't ready or expected it when they charged at us."
"Are you okay? You look like you've been dragged through hell and back." Levi pointed out.
"Thanks." She said in sarcasm.
"What happened to your hip?" He asked.
"Got smashed into a tree and a branch pierced me." She mumbled. Once they arrived, Mikasa hopped off of her horse, walking away from the couple.
"Mikasa!" Eren suddenly called. He and Armin ran up to her, grabbing her arms.
"Let me go!" Mikasa fussed.
"You need to rest!" Eren shouted.
"I don't."
"Mikasa... You haven't slept in days. We're worried about you. Besides you're injured. Please." Armin pleaded.
Mikasa's eyes darkened. "Thanks, but no thanks." She muttered.
"Holy Maria Mikasa! You're getting weak and about to die! If you die then we'll be corpses! You're always worried about us. How about for a change, we worry about you?" Eren yelled in frustration. "Levi? Help me here!" He turned to him.
Levi stood still, Mikasa's face showing him not to do it. He sighed, unhooking his hand from Petra's. Levi headed to the girl, picking her up bridal style.
"Rivallie! Put me down!" She squirmed in his arms.
"Not happening." He said, heading towards the room she shared with Hanji. The other Cadets looked at him strangely. All he did was ignore the looks.
Rivallie placed Mikasa gently onto her bed, admiring the glare she plastered on her face. "Hate you." She nudged him playfully.
Levi was about to say: 'You love me.' But whacked himself mentally.
"Why?"
"Wait, what?" Mikasa looked at him in full confusion.
"Why do you hate me?"
Mikasa's grey eyes dimmed. Silence was among them for a few minutes until she replied. "Because you care about me." She spoke softly.
"Is that a bad thing?"
"God dammit Rivallie. Of course it is! You're supposed to be taking care of your girlfriend. Not some childhood friend who happens to be in the same place as you. I may not have what you have, but I know you're not supposed to be taking care of some girl from the past. The only girl you should be caring for is Petra." She said, placing her back on the wall.
"You're not some girl from the past." Levi spat.
"So? That doesn't mean I'm your girlfriend. Speaking of which, shouldn't you be with her?" Mikasa sassed.
"She's not important right now. You know more about me than Petra does. You know me like the back of your hand. That's not just a girl from the past. Not even close to a childhood friend. You were basically a sister to me. You're more important to me than anyone else, even Petra."
Levi, who was looking in her eyes, felt himself falling for her again. Her eyes had more colors than he realized. A hint of blue and purple was blocked by the darkness of the grey color.
"It is." She clenched her fists. "If she doesn't know, you could tell her. And besides, she will replace me. You see, I took care of you in the past, now it's someone else's turn to take care of you in the future."
He shook his head. "It doesn't matter. Even with a single expression you know what I'm thinking."
Mikasa opened her mouth, as if to say something, but no words came out.
"Isn't that right?" He asked.
Mikasa looked down at her hands, pursing her lips. "Look Levi. You know I don't like to be taken care of. I'm better at taking care of someone else."
"I knew that but I never understood it."
"It's because someday, you'll die. If someone cares about me, I know that later I'll be regretting all the things I could've helped you with."
Levi was shocked at her statement.
"How come you never told me?"
She bit her lip, as if she had be avoiding that question. "No reason." She lied.
"Stop lying Mikasa. Tell me."
Mikasa laid down on the bed, turning her back towards him. "Goodnight." She sighed.
Before Levi could argue, Petra came in the room, smiling. "Childhood friend?" She asked.
He nodded.
"She's worth keeping in your life you know." She whispered.
"You're more important." He looks at his girlfriend.
Petra grins, whispering, "She needs to sleep, let her rest."
The two walk out, leaving a tear rolling down Mikasa's face. Her breathing drowned out her sniffling, her attempt not to sob.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"Mikasa!" A feminine voice yelled in her ear.
Her body jolted up in sitting form, her head being hit by the bed fame. She let out a small whimper, touching her forehead. Mikasa's vision cleared, revealing a crazy look in Hanji's face.
"Finally! I thought you were gonna sleep in!" Hanji screeched.
"What time is it?" Mikasa groaned.
"Three o'clock." Hanji casually answered.
Mikasa did an immediate facepalm. "One of your Titan theories again?" She guessed.
Hanji smiled like a maniac on steroids. "You're not the only one hearing it though." She looked at Petra crouching next to the psycho with glasses, and Levi leaning against the wall next to her bed.
"Stop smiling like that, you're creeping me out." Mikasa remarked.
Mikasa saw Levi smirk in the corner of her eye. Hanji laughed, sending a chill down Mikasa's spine.
"Anyway, a Titan's only energy is sunlight, not food or water."
Mikasa's eyes widened. "You caught a Titan?"
"No, no. It's by instinct."
Mikasa sighed, getting up, grabbing her gear and making her way through the doorway. She was stopped by Hanji, who asked, "Where are you going?"
"Just for a quick walk." She replied.
That 'walk', was called "training" in Mikasa's dictionary. Once a cold wind blasted her hair, she shot herself towards trees, the hook grabbing the bark and ripping it to go to the next one.
She was gaining speed, and expected her to go faster, but that didn't last. She was hit by something, making her looser balance and fall backwards.
"Sorry." She muttered, to whoever she bumped into. Even in the dark, she could tell who it was. "Jean?"
"Hey Mikasa." A smile plastered on the boy's face. She was helped up by him, being a few inches from his face.
She jerked away, shooting a glare towards him. "Get the fuck away from me." She snarled.
"Sorry, I couldn't control my strength." He shrugged, the look of innocence in his face.
"Creep." She spat, heading towards Eren and Armin's bunk.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"What are you doing here?" Eren asked.
"Is something wrong?" Armin asked, worriedly.
She shook her head. "Just Jean being a pervert." She scoffed.
Eren laughed, tears in his eyes. "Horse face needs therapy. He has to know you don't like him."
Armin's eyes were glued to her side. "Is your hip okay? It's still bleeding." He pointed out. Mikasa looked down, seeing her shirt being soaked with the red liquid.
"I'm fine. Promise. By the way, why are you still up?" She asked.
"Eh, couldn't sleep." Eren replied.
"It's about four thirty Mikasa. You should get back to bed." Armin suggested.
"Wow, I'm here for five minutes and you're kicking me out?" She smiled a bit.
"Yeah. Now sleep before I make you." Eren sent her a promising look.
"Fine, fine." She surrendered.
She gently closed the door, walking across headquarters to her bunk. In the center of the room-her room-Hanji and Petra were having a wild discussion, while Levi was in the same place he was before.
"A just 'quick walk' huh?" Levi smiled.
"Shut up."
She stood next to him, feeling his eyes on her. Mikasa smirked slightly. "Remember when we stole the meat from that butcher?" Levi randomly brought up.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"You brats! Get back here with my meat!" A grumpy voice called.
Levi and Mikasa snickered, running into the forest. Mikasa looked back, seeing that the man wasn't running after them anymore.
"Well that was something." Levi chuckled.
"Yeah. Two twelve year old kids grabbing pork and stuffing it in our pockets. Wonder what was going in their minds?" She said, laughing.
"Probably 'Those damn kids stealing my pig!' " He mocked the butcher's voice.
Mikasa's cheeks grew red from all the laughing. Levi, who was looking at her carefully, was caught.
"Why are you looking at me like that?" She asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Because you're beautiful when you laugh." He blurt out. Quickly, he clapped his mouth.
Mikasa laughed softly, removing the hand. She placed her lips on his cheeks, wanting to see his reaction. Levi stumbled on his words. "D-Did you just-"
"Kiss you? Yes, yes I did." She smiled.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"That was fun." Mikasa's lips curled slightly. "I remember your cheeks growing so red. I actually thought you were choking on something."
"Oi, shut up Mikasa." Levi nudged her playfully.
She shrugged, reviving a smile from Rivallie. Am I really falling for her again? Levi asked himself.
Her grey eyes sparkled, smiling at the floor. Her eyes drifted to Petra and Hanji, then towards the door. She frowned, as if she knew what was going to happen. Her eyes widened, and suddenly the door flew open, with Jean, Eren and Armin walking in.
"Mikasa, we need you." Eren snarled, glaring at Jean.
Mikasa sighed, heading to the group of boys. "What is it now?" She asked.
"Remember you said Jean was being a pervert?" Eren asked.
Mikasa nodded, examining Jean carefully.
"I'm not a pervert!" Jean argued.
"You tried to kiss her!" Eren yelled.
"That doesn't make me a pervert!"
"Still!"
Did he really try to kiss her? Levi questioned.
"Oooh, so Jean tried to kiss Mikasa?" Hanji said, getting the psychotic look in her eyes again.
Mikasa rolled her eyes. "Both of you get out of I'll slice you up." She ordered. "Armin, try and help them. You two have to listen to him. Okay?"
"Fine." Jean and Eren grumbled in unison.
"Mikasa, I can't-" she cut the blond boy off.
"Armin you do more than you give yourself credit for. Eren is your friend, and I know you would do anything to help him. Is that right?"
Armin nodded, looked at her in the eyes and thanked her. Mikasa smiled, forgetting about the fact Hanji, Petra, and Levi were still watching her.
The boy chased after Jean and Eren, which left Mikasa to close the door. Levi smirked, staring at her as if she broke the law. She shot him a glare.
"That was something, huh?" Hanji said.
The short haired girl dove under the covers on had bed, and drifted off into sleep.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
She was in a dark room, tied up on a chair. The handcuffs made a jangling noise when she tried slipping out of them. A figure approached them, footsteps clacking on the floor.
"You're not getting out of that." A male's voice grumbled. The voice was familiar, too familiar.
"L-Levi?" Her voice cracked.
The male grinned. "Hello Mikasa. You know Petra, my soon-to-be wife?"
Petra walked towards her, two blades at her side. The brunette raised the weapon, a few inches from her nape.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"Mikasa! Wake up!" Her body shook violently.
Her eyes forcefully opened quickly, Levi's face hovering over her head. She groaned as the bright sunlight stung her eyes.
"You were having a nightmare." Rivallie explained. Mikasa gave him a puzzled look, and he replied, "You were shivering and cringing in your sleep. I know you Mikasa."
Mikasa laid there, stunned. "You and Petra were trying to kill me..." She mumbled.
"You know I would never do that. Petra's too innocent to kill anything except a Titan." He spoke softly, in a tone he wasn't known for.
A flashback ran through Levi's head.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"Mikasa, it's morning."
She yawned, Levi's face mere centimeters from her's. Mikasa blinked, then cupped her hands around the sides of his face and kissed him. Levi unexpectedly kissed back, leaning her back towards the bed frame. Levi's tongue touched her lips, signaling her to open her mouth.
As his tongue met her's, he slipped his down her throat, then his thumb doing the same. When they drew back, saliva covering his thumb.
"We should do that more often," Levi smirked.
Mikasa laughed, almost a giggle. " 'Those damn kids making out again.' " she smiled.
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
Levi smiled at the memory. Dammit Levi, He cursed himself. You have a fucking girlfriend.
"Why are you suddenly smiling?" Mikasa raised an eyebrow.
"Nothing." He muttered, his cheeks flushing in a red color. Mikasa looked at him in a 'I don't fucking believe you' way.
Why is she so attractive all of a sudden? Levi asked himself.
"Levi?" Petra's voice called. "I'm going now. If you want to stay a little longer you can."
"Sorry, I'm staying. Tch, I don't have anything to do." Levi replied, as Petra's form disappeared around the corner.
Mikasa kicked him. She did it playfully, and he knew it because he had felt how hard she kicked before.
He looked at her, reviving a 'You're freaking mental' look from her. "Why didn't you follow her? Are you stupid or something?"
Levi stood there silent. Fuck you Mikasa, and pretty face . He thought.
"She's your girlfriend. Go to her." Mikasa said, softly.
Levi didn't budge. Mikasa sent a glare at him, sending a chill down his spine. She sighed, as if she were to say, 'You're hopeless.'
"Are you jealous?" Levi asked.
Mikasa turned her head to him, with the look of 'for fucks sake are you really asking this question'. "You know I would never be jealous. You know me too well." Mikasa said sternly.
Silence was brought up to both of them. The sun peaked up onto the sky, signaling the morning. "Unfortunately, I have to go train with Jean." Mikasa groaned slightly.
"Why did you pick Jean as your partner, if you don't want to be with him?" Levi questioned.
"Before I could say anything, Jean just came up to me. And we were the last two left." Mikasa explained.
"Oh."
⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌⚌
"I give up." Jean coughed.
"Good." Mikasa scoffed, taking off the wooden knife away from his neck. She gave him space to get up, tapping her foot impatiently.
Jean smirked at her. "You know, I can do better in bed." He blushed.
"Gross." Mikasa gagged.
"You want it." He teased, smiling awkwardly.
"Stop being such a pervert. Or is that not possbile?" Mikasa sassed.
Jean stood there speechless. He had never been more turned on by the girl. "Stop looking at me like that, creep." Mikasa ordered.
"Just because you're squad leader doesn't mean you can speak like that to your future husband."
"Number one, yes I can. Number two, I would never marry a creep like you."
"You're squad leader?" Levi snooped into the conversation.
"Yeah she is. You were to busy eating Petra's face you failed to notice." Jean remarked.
"Do you really want to die?" Mikasa threatened.
"Wow, congrats Mikasa." Levi said, totally ignoring Jean's words.
"You should take better care of your childhood friend. She's hot, dangerous and-"
Mikasa kicked Jean in the shin, making the tall boy fall backwards once more. "Whoa babe, don't try to hurt me."
Levi examined Mikasa carefully. She had definitely grown taller, broader, and her hair had been grown a bit. He had never looked at her with great detail recently.
"Okay, that's it. You're being partnered up with someone else." Mikasa said, in a tempered tone.
Levi knew her anger button had clicked. With the clenched up fists, the coldness in her eyes, and her lips curling into a sneer, she was eventually going to murder Jean. He had knew her that well.
"Mikasa, wanna join us for training?" Out of nowhere, Armin and Eren walked behind them.
"Yeah, sure." Mikasa smiled.
Without regrets, Mikasa followed the two boys. Levi felt a tad bit of jealousy, because of the attention she got from other males. "Levi, you okay?"
His eyes met Mikasa's. "I'm okay." He lied.
"That's it. Follow me." Mikasa ordered, turning away from Armin and Eren.
She grabbed his wrist, leading him to the forest. "What's wrong?" She asked softly.
"I'm not with the right girl." He huffed out.
Mikasa raised an eyebrow. "You are. First of all, she's beautiful. Secondly, she smiles and laughs more than anyone else. I know you love when she smiles. Thirdly, she's quirky and romantic. See, this is basically what every guy likes. You're with the perfect girl. And even though you think you aren't, fate already decided it."
She turned around and began to walk away from him. "She's not you, Mikasa." Levi sighed.
Those four words stopped her in her tracks. Mikasa looked at him straight in the eyes. "Fate." She said, on the verge of tears.

The next few days, Levi found himself staring at her. For no reason. Maybe it was guilt, maybe it was regretfulness. Levi didn't figure it out, or tried to, until the day of horrors came.
Consequence? Hell no. It didn't somehow happen that Petra Ral was now only a memory. And he knew who's fault it was.
"You!" He pinned the girl with raven black hair against the wall. "You killed her!" He yelled.
The girl didn't struggle, as if she knew one day this was going to happen. "Petra didn't need to die! You should've been the one to be a corpse." Levi spoke furiously.
She didn't fight back. Either she was just accepting the hate, or her body was limp.
"Levi! Let her go!" He heard Eren's voice behind him.
"Why should I? I could end her right here and now!" Levi threatened.
Armin pried his hands from Mikasa's neck. The blond helped Mikasa inside headquarters, and meanwhile Eren glared at him.
"She didn't kill her, or let her die." Eren said. He didn't let Levi speak. "She tried protecting her. There were eleven Titans and only one of her. Have you seen her wounds? She basically went from hell and back."
"She should've helped her." Levi grumbled in frustration.
"Go to Mikasa and see for yourself. Armin probably took her to the infirmary."
Levi didn't have a choice. And Eren didn't let him. Rivallie slumped up the stairs leading to the infirmary.
The floor boards creaked on each step he took. Fingers hands curled around the metal door knob, taking a deep breath and entering.
It was a simple room with a bed and a window. Sitting on the bed was none other than Mikasa Ackerman. Her head dropped down, staring at her hands who shook violently.
"Mikasa?"
The girl didn't look at him, nor say anything back. "I didn't mean what I said I was just angry. You know how she was important to me, right?"
"Yeah." She breathed out. "I knew she was important to you. I know everything."
Levi opened his mouth to say something, but nothing came out. He sat next to Mikasa, looking at her closely.
Sure she looked like she had been through hell, but he knew she was living hell right at this moment.
She wanted to cry. Bawl her eyes out. Mikasa knew he meant all those things. And she understood everything. Losing somebody they love is hard to do anything. She had dealt this feeling far too many times.
"I didn't mean to say that." Levi said softly.
I already know everything. She thought. Even the bad things, I know. I don't want to know, but it's too late when my ears work fine.
"You okay?" Rivallie asked.
She nodded, hiding the fact she was dying inside. Arms wrapped around her, being leaned against his chest.
But Mikasa didn't move. She stayed in the same position, being used to heartbreak and disappointment. "The world is cruel." She mumbled, hoping he didn't hear her.
"I know you want to kill me." She said, not looking at him. "Like you said, I know you."
"I don't Mikasa-"
"What if I did murder her? Would you kill me?"
"I-"
"Exactly." She said, agitated. He still doesn't know why. "I should've died. Not her."
"Mikasa! Don't say that it's not true-"
"It is." She grumbled.
Levi got up, knowing she wanted to be alone. Once he was out the door, tears rolled down her cheeks. She was good at hiding pain, hiding what was going through her mind. Levi stood behind the door, hearing her crying her eyes out. He hesitated in going in again, and instead sat down, his back against the closed door.
He knew she was in pain. That was a fact, because she never made sound when she cried. Her silent cries made his heart sink, but hearing all the heartbreak coming out of her eyes was worse.
Then it struck him.
The reason why she had been acting like this. He had left her alone, for three years. Three years has gone by where she had to keep all her emotions in, acting like nothing was wrong. Three years of pain and frustration, and even the most heartless person would've broken down after a year.
Once feeling the importance of her life, then that being thrown away like a piece of garbage damaged her humanity. He finally understood, a little too late.
She put her head into her hands, trying to stop the amount of tears. She looked at the dried blood on her skin, her whole body trembling.
