It was Christmas eve and Levi had never felt so stupid in his life.
But, the embarrassment and shame was worth it all just to make his son dreams come true.
Even if Levi was counting down the years until they could announce to his son that Santa wasn't real anymore.
But until that day, Levi will always dress up as Father Christmas himself and had delivery his son Christmas gift.
Wearing the hand sewn outfit that his wife spent hours working on at night once they were certain their son was asleep and wouldn't see what she was making. The fake beard made by the wool of the sheep from Connie farm and the boots were thankful his old ones used during his days as a soldier.
He was the one and only father Christmas his son would ever meet in person if he did wake up as Levi snuck into his room, placing the peasants down on his bedside table once a few hours had passed since his bedtime.
It was the small moments, the fond memories like now that made Levi show how much he cherished and loved his son. Mikasa always loved standing in the doorway, watching the same act each and every Christmas even as their son had lately turned nine in the past autumn.
But both agreed that they'd carry on believing in Santa and making each and every Christmas as special as they could for their son. Both making sure that no one spoiled the magic of Christmas by glaring down to any who almost spilled the beans on Santa and those who tried ruining their son jolly spirit.
Being ex war hero's that scared the living shit out of anyone sometimes had it perks.
In truth, both He and Mikasa knew that the time was coming to tell their son the truth. That he'd grow out of believing in Santa and no longer want the special Christmas done by his parents. Their little boy had finally grown out of the tooth fairy and sandman. The Easter bunny use to scare him anyway so they had to tell him the truth over that fairy tale long ago.
But neither mind that time was running out, they'd cherish each and every memory like it was their last and just enjoy the moment together.
Extra:
"He doesn't try to stay awake anymore" Levi commented once he stepped outside his son bedroom, feeling a bit down over not having to out wait his son just for Santa to come by.
"He's growing up, it's excepted. But deep down, I think it's because he knows Santa wouldn't come if he stay awake waiting for him" Mikasa softly answered back with a small smile before leaning down and giving her husband a quick peck.
"Once he stops believing in Santa than the only celebration done on Christmas will be my birthday .. right?" Levi asked with an raised eyebrow, feeling his age a little with all this sneaking about late at night. Both of them heading back to their own room to gain a little bit of sleep before morning comes.
"We celebrate your birthday every Christmas" Mikasa frowned as she lightly slapped her husband shoulder, knowing she'd never missed out a single one of his birthdays.
"I'd prefer to celebrate Christmas and my birthday like we did before we had a son" Levi stated with a small smirk as he opened their bedroom door and heading to the end of their bed.
"And wasn't that how we gained a son" Mikasa commented back with a small grin, closing the door behind her.
"Truth but I never complained before" Levi smugly admitted as he pulled down his beard and took his hat off.
"You've companied during every dirty nappy" Mikasa reminded him as she rolled her eyes and kneeled down to help with the jacket buttons since they were a bit tricky.
"Our son was filthy and smelly. I had to question if he was really my son or if you cheated on me with a pig" Levi argued back in his defence as he had a right to know what evil being made his son smell so awful so often.
"For someone who didn't have to suffer with late night feedings, you sure complain like you had it rough" Mikasa scoffed back as she helped slipped the jacket off his arms before placing it on the coat hanger.
"I don't think I had it that bad" Levi mumbled back with a slight pout as he pulled his boots off.
"Guess we'll just have to find out once this one is born and cries the roof down" Mikasa admitted with a light shrug as she watched him stand up and start to undo his belt.
"This one?" Levi repeated in confusion as he took his trousers off knowing his wife was waiting for them to put on the hanger as well before she hid the custom deep in their closet, safe from their son eyes.
"Found out this morning. It's the secret gift I had to check on" Mikasa answered with a shy smile as she placed a hand over her still mostly flat stomach but showing what had meant.
"You're expecting?" Levi asked in shock, staring at his wife stomach like she'd sudden see a grown bump even if it as too early for that yet.
"Yeah" Mikasa whispered back with a soft smile, looking to her husband rather happily.
"Bloody hell! That means I've got to wear this itchy beard even longer now" Levi groaned back as his wife giggled over his properties and placing the suit away knowing they could keep his old boots out. She's seen her son wear them a few times, pretending to act like his parents. Of course, Mikasa boots were a little too big for him still unlike Levi.
Levi just staring at his wife before smiling gently as he made his way over to her. Slipping his hands over her waste before wrapping them carefully around her stomach. Leaning his forehead into her back and feeling her place her hands over his.
"Merry Christmas, Levi" Mikasa smiled sweetly, looking over her shoulder to her husband.
"Yeah, this year really is turning out to be merry for us" Levi admitted with a sappy grin, feeling rather blissful all over again.
Extra, Extra:
Unknown to the Santa of the Ackermans, the eldest child laid awake all along but learnt to fake his sleep even better after all these years.
He slowly opened his eyes, controlling his breathing a little and knowing this he was left alone in his room. Peeking towards the door and freezing up as he watched his mummy kiss Santa before heading off to his parents room together.
That's how it all fell into place.
How Santa always came to his room once he had fallen asleep no matter how long he tried staying awake to meet him.
"Holy shit! Mummy married Santa. Santa is my dad. Wow!" Mika whispered yelled out in shock, not believing that he had Santa as his dad and knowing how many children dreamed over such a thing.
Unknown to him that he might need a few more years before his parents finally tell him the truth over the whole matter.
