Levi had never felt more frighten in all his life. He stood frozen, the Christmas chill no longer making him shiver. His right hand tensed under his winter blanket left over his legs while his other hand held tightly to his girlfriend who was just watching him pale and grow wide eye.

He forgot it ... the one thing he needed tonight and he forgot it.

He couldn't even send one of his soldiers to  go fetch it since all of their comrades where with their own love ones and getting ready for their own Christmas.

He was so screwed!

All of his months of planning and weeks of panicking with Armin and his other comrades trying to calm him down and giving him the needed speeches to push him forward .. all now wasted.

"Something wrong" Mikasa asked with a worried smile, giving his hand a slight squeeze making her boyfriend eyes shot towards her, growing even wider.

Levi gave a small nod as he kept eye contact with his girlfriend.

"Can you tell me?" Mikasa asked unsure, wondering if she would need to call one of their friends for back up or if she could somehow help her now freaked out boyfriend.

Her answer was given to her by Levi quickly shaking his head in horror making her give a small nod while trying to think.

"Want me to walk around and enjoy the decorations by myself while you think alone?" Mikasa offered with a soft smile, giving his hand another squeeze.

She was looking rather forward in seeing the Christmas tree that everyone worked together to decorate in celebration over their first Christmas since the war finally ended. Children, women, men and even the elderly all joined together and place one homemade decoration on the large tree they kept in the centre of the newly built town outside the walls. This was their first Christmas, most being able to be with their love ones and well those who didn't make it home was honoured in the silent pray that would be held tonight, on Christmas Eve.

Sure, she and Levi had gone to the tree before but the last survivors of the war were the first to be allowed to place their homemade decoration on the grand tree. They were given the honour to mark the tree first before everyone else joined meaning they'd only now see it completed.

It was meant to be their special Christmas memory since tomorrow they'd be celebration his birthday instead.

"That would be great" Levi admitted in slight shame, his breath becoming a cloud in the air showing how cold it was. Lowering his gaze as he felt guilty for ruining the one memory he knew she's been looking forward too. They even got his new wheelchair that he was able to move himself just so they could walk, well, semi walk hand in hand together around the tree.

"I'll return for our Christmas eve walk in ten minutes. They do say that you miss some things during the first visit due to being in aww. I look forward to seeing it with you my second time" Mikasa smiled sweetly, leaning forward and giving him a quick peck and showing they'd still see the Christmas tree together.

"Make it twenty minutes" Levi ordered while his girlfriend gave an awkward nod, trying her best to smile and hide her unease and disappoint.

"Got it. I'll just waste twenty minutes staring in people windows while trying not to freeze to death. At lease it proves I love you" Mikasa muttered back, sticking her gloved hands back in her winter coat since the cold always got to her more then anyone else. Even if she did mostly hide such a fact during her soldier days but Levi always seemed to know. Even guilty admitted that he prayed for cold nights when she was stuck on watch so he could huddle up beside her, wrapping their capes around both their shoulders and sharing each other warmth.

"Sorry" Levi called back as his girlfriend started to walk away, he did feel guilty for this.

He watched her defeated frame grow into the distance, her head turning left to right to actually look into the windows of homes around them. Taking in the happy families and decorated homes to help buy some time for him.

"Shit" Levi cursed under his breath, lowing his head as he overlooked his life choices and wondered why God couldn't give him a single break on Christmas eve.

But while he quickly wheeled himself over to the new shop on the corner, his girlfriend of five years kept to her promise and walked around the Christmas tree, even if she and Levi already promised to see it together.

Mikasa never really been excited to go on a Christmas eve walk before, walking around the town on a chilly night and looking to all the Christmas decorations left hanging on doors or windows.  She always liked the idea of staying home with her love ones, reading a book with a hot chocolate in her hands and just cuddling up to someone.

It's what her parents always did, neither really celebrated Christmas or made a big deal over it. She only learnt over Christmas whenever she walked into town with her Father to sell some of the farm crops close to Christmas and she asked him over the holiday. He told her over Santa and how some choose to celebrate it but they did it themselves. Instead, she was given a warm hot chocolate by the fire while her mother read a book to her father while they were cuddled up together. That had always been her Christmas, simple and sometimes boring.

But this year, Levi had won her over somehow and it ended up with her freezing her butt of outside in the middle of a street with nothing else to do but wait.  But then again it was ten at night on Christmas even and everything was mostly closed already. The town left empty for those doing the couples walk or just those who were drunk and was trying to get home.

She didn't mind coming out with Levi, she loves him more then anything else in her life .. okay, maybe almost since Hot Chocolate was still top dogs to her. But Levi understood that and didn't mind coming second best in her life.

If she was honest, she was enjoying be romantic and holding his hand while they walked under along the street and looking over all the happily Christmas decorations left on some of the cottage homes. She was enjoying being all sappy with the love of her life, she never dreamed of doing this before unless it was nothing more than a dream as she spent her nights alone. It was nice, living a simple life after being a soldier for all those years of her life. Of course the war ended only a year ago, she and Levi finally moving in together at a cabin at the edge of the town, close to the woods. She always wanted to stay living close to a set of woods like her family home and Levi liked the idea of owning their own small bit of land near the edge of a town. They both found their perfect home, a little cabin on the edge of the woods and they loved it.

She glanced to her watch (A gift from Annie after saving her six in battle and Mikasa happy got the women a matching watch to show her own gratitude for protecting her own six), noticing twenty minutes have finally passed and she wasted no time returning to where she left her boyfriend. Being all romantic was fine but now she was cold and cold and cold and god she wanted warm cuddles under a blanket with a nice cup of hot chocolate. She was getting ready to just carry Levi back to their cabin if he didn't want to return so soon. She'd just ask Jean or Connie to make a new wheel chair for her boyfriend since the two did help her to make the current one.

"Levi!" Mikasa called out, giving a small wave as she ran over, noticing him sitting slightly embarrassed for some reason.

"Hey" Levi replied with a small smile as she finally reached him.

"So, can we go home now .. its bloody freezing, I think I'm turning blue" Mikasa asked, giving a tiny smile as she shivered a little. She really hated the cold and why she did love the man before her .. he wasn't worth frostbite over. Not when the war was over and they both finally started living their happily ever after together, sometimes she feared waking up and finding it all to be a blissful dream. But than he'd do something stupid or get on her nerves and remind her that she was definitely awake and with him. She wouldn't have changed a thing, even if they did sometimes try to kill the other.

"Almost, I just need to do one thing .. please" Levi quickly replied, lifting a hand up while he looked to the ground and his second hand nervously stayed hidden under the thick blanket kept over his legs.

"Make it quick or I'll carry us back" Mikasa warned completely serious and Levi gave a shaky nod as he knew she'd actually carry him like a princess for making her wait in the cold this long.

"Mikasa, I love you more then anything else in my life. I never thought I'll ever meet someone as brilliant and as gorgeous as you. I know our first meeting wasn't perfect and our life was mostly bumpy at first but every day I've spent with you, the good and the bad was the greatest days of my life. I want to show the world just how important you are to me by calling you as my Wife ... So, My Brat, Mikasa Ackerman, will you make me the luckiest guy in our universe by Marrying me?" Levi started to say with a warm smile, his left hand holding hers before he slipped out his right hand and held up the ring while his eyes filled with love.

"Is that a candy ring?" Mikasa asked with a raised eyebrow, looking at chalk candy that was formed into a white ring shape. (Chalk candy that's the same taste as candy necklace. Those hard candies that are powdery when bitten into. I'm not sure if everyone had one or know over them but they sometimes taste like chalk or look like chalk. It's kinda like candy sticks)

"Yes, Yes it is" Levi answered shyly as he lowered his head, feeling embarrassed all over again as this wasn't how he planned for this to go.

"You forgot the ring, didn't you?" Mikasa asked with a cheeky grin, finding this rather amusing.

"Yes, I really did. I promise the ring I designed is way better then this one. Please make do until we get home" Levi sighed as he lifted his gaze towards her once she giggled.

"And who says I would say "Yes" to you proposal?"Mikasa asked with a slight smirk, swinging their joint hands a little. She decided to get a bit of payback after being left in the cold by herself over him trying to find a replacement ring.

He knew her well enough to know that she'd still be overjoyed if he simply proposed to her in their home or even just left the ring on the side for her to slide on without asking the main question. She knew he liked to keep most of his honour and to always make everything as perfect as he planned it to be. But she didn't mind if not everything was special or ordinal. She's just happy to stay with him, married or not.

"Because I will cry if you say No .. wanna risk making me cry" Levi shot back with a bit of pride and feeling like he couldn't embarrass himself anymore than he already has tonight. Crying his eyes out in public no longer threatened his pride or seemed as shameful.

"But your a cute crier" Mikasa pouted as she met his gaze, fluttering her eyelashes. She's only see him cry the once and it was breath taking. Sure, she was bitter and jealous over how cute he looked when he cried compared to her that looked worse than death. She knew she was an ugly crier, Eren pointed it out often enough and she's seen her reflection after crying too. But Levi, he was too handsome for any eyes to see when crying.

"Don't make me eat your second ring" Levi warned as he wiggled the candy ring, his eyes showing how serious he was over eating it himself if she carried on to tease him anymore tonight.

"Yes, I'll marry you" Mikasa answered with a warm smile, giggling as Levi was trying to slip the candy ring as much as he could on her gloved finger before pulling her down to his lap and hugging her.

"Thank you" Levi whispered as he leaned his forehead to hers before pulling her into a loving kiss.

"But I will be eating my ring alone. You did make me freeze my ass off so the ring all mine" Mikasa whispered back making her fiancé chuckle.

"Deal. Now, lets go home and snuggle because I can't feel my toes" Levi smiled as he helped her off his lap before taking hold of her hand again.

"Next time I get engaged, make sure its in autumn" Mikasa mumbled mindlessly making her fiancé snap his head towards her while they started heading home together. The tree could wait until their morning walk in the morning.

"Like hell there's gonna be a next time! I'm not sharing you even in death" Levi growled back as he stared at his fiancée.

"What about our next life?" Mikasa shot back with a raised eyebrow, watching as her fiancé cheeks turned rosy.

"We'll get engaged in Spring. You'll be able to see all the flowers growing and enjoy seeing our crops pop out of the ground during our walk. Winter is clearly too cold for this bullshit leaving Spring for our next life" Levi mumbled back as he squeezed her hand a little, his eyes focused straight away as he felt his face burn hotter by each second.

"Agreed and in our next life, don't forget the ring" Mikasa teased a little making her fiancé groan back in playful annoyance but rather looking forward to having her in his next life too.
