Chapter 9
"Fine," I said. I quickly hung up before Oikawa could say something. I realized that I had no idea where he wanted to meet or when. I tapped my foot nervously, thinking I'd somehow been too hard once again.
Suddenly a ping rang out, and I jumped to get my phone. The same number showed up in my notifications.
Tomorrow, 6pm? Read the text.
A google link took me to the location of a park. If I took the train it'd maybe take 20 minutes to get there.
Ok.
Was all I replied.
_______________
I stood in my room with the door closed. The girl in the reflection of the mirror standing before me stared me down. The flowery pattern of cloth dangled around my thighs. I could barely remember the last time I'd worn a dress.
The girl in the mirror looked innocent and young. The difference was greater than just an opposite appearance.
"Mommy! Mommy!" I ran up to the figure that bent down at the sound of my voice.
"What is it darling?" She smiled a bright smile.
"Do you like my dress mommy?" I asked, swaying back and forth to make the skirt flow outwards.
"Yes I do! You look like a young lady in that dress."
I giggled, then looked around the room. "Where's daddy?" I asked.
My mother glanced down, away from my eyes. She shook her head. "I'm not sure, honey." The smile on my face faded. "I'm sure he'll be back soon for your dance." I smiled shyly. It was my first fathers daughter dance.
I looked away from the mirror quickly. I questioned why I even agreed to this date. I snatched my shoulder bag from off the foot of my bed. The chain jangled next to my dress.
My mom gasped as I jogged down the stairs. I jumped back started by this. She stood looking at me for a moment, then stepped forward and hugged me. "You look so beautiful." She whispered. She let go and gave me a smile.
"Thanks, mom." I told her, eager to get out of this situation.
"You must like this boy to dress up like this." She laughed.
My face flushed. "Pft, yea right. I'm just trying to be nice."
She nodded with a smirk. "Okay. Have fun, be safe."
"Always," I told her. She handed me some money and kissed my cheek.
__________
I sat quietly on the train, ear buds in my ears. I looked around the train car, with nothing else to do. A couple men wearing suits and carrying suitcases talked loudly on the other side. A woman with two children sat reading a magazine as the kids poked and prodded at each other. A few other people were scattered around the car and sat alone.
Every moment I questioned my sanity for agreeing to this. The park was close, and all I could think of was if Oikawa stood me up, or did some other jerk thing, just wanted me for his selfish reasons. People were hard to trust, and I had less trust than most.
As I stepped off the train, my phone pinged. The now saved number came up as Oikawa in my notifications.
I'm here. Meet me at the edge of the forest.
I looked up to the gods, Please don't let me be murdered tonight. I thought.
I walked cautiously from the train station to the park. A figure stood about 200 feet away from my current position, On the edge of the trees. The figure turned toward me, an arm shot up and waved back and forth. A slight smile appears on my face as I sped up my pace.
"You came," started Oikawa. "And you look nice." He finished quietly.
"It's as much as a surprise to me as it is to you," I half-mumbled. He gave a nervous laugh. "Oh, you look good too, by the way." I spoke quickly, trying to be at least a decent date. He laugh and thanked me. He was wearing khaki pants and a blue button up shirt that showed the shape of his arms and chest.
"Do you wanna start walking? I have a surprise," he stated starting to turn. I nodded. He took my arm to signify me to follow.
Short chapter, but I wanted to cut it off because I think the next one deserves it's own chapter.
