Chapter 8
I stood in the gym, awkwardly watching Suga and Daichi pass the volleyball back and forth between them. They always arrived early, and began warming up so the rest of the team that trickled in would follow their lead; like ducklings to their mother.
Noya and Tanaka never "trickled" in though. They came in like Niagara Falls crashing into the water below: loud and unorganized. Today they crashed right into me and began hugging me tight. "Get off you jerks!" I yelled trying to pull my arms out of their grasps.
"Thank you wise (f/n)!" Noya exclaimed. "We passed our tests because of you!"
"Oh, really?" I said still wriggling for freedom. "I was really hoping you'd fail so I wouldn't have to tutor you anymore."
Both the boys gasped and let go. "(Fn)-san why would you say that, don't you like us?" Tanaka begged. I explained to him that I barely got any sleep last night and got a bad grade in the homework I fell asleep doing when I got home from helping them. "Well that's not our fault!" He finally spoke after listening carefully. I breathed in and out and turned away from them to walk.
Just as I began my steps towards relaxing, another body slammed into my side, knocking me on to the wooden floor. I groaned and tried to sit up when I noticed a shadow cast over my body. I looked up to see orange hair dangling over my eyes and nose. Hinata looked down at me frantically. His arms were on either side of me, A knee rested next to my leg. His whole body was looming over mine, but when I looked up at him he looked to be in pain.
"S-sorry (l/n)-san!" He sputtered out and leaned to the side to fall over away from me.
"Hinata-kun are you okay?" I asked sitting up, I noticed him clutching his knee a bit.
"I'm fine," he said. "I'm so sorry, I didn't see you when I came in!"
The rest of the team that was in the gym was on their way at this point.
Daichi crouched down next to me. "Are you okay (l/n)?" He asked me. I nodded, but felt a pain in the side of my head. I winced and tried to get up but felt dizzy. Daichi told Kiyoko to get the first aid kit. Noya and Tanaka asked me if anything hurt, and Hinata kept apologizing.
"(L/n)-san, I'm so sorry, I don't deserve to be forgiven!" Hinata blurted out.
I laughed at him and he looked at me puzzled. "It's no big deal Hinata, I get headaches all the time, I had one before you ran into me." Although this was a lie, and my head was still hurting, he smiled and I was glad he relaxed a bit.
I was skeptical, and thought I might've had a small concussion. But Daichi asked me questions like "What's your name?" and "What school do you go to?". I passed with flying colors on his "concussion quiz", and after drinking some water I felt alright. Hinata apologized to me several times more, even though I insisted that I'd forgiven him. Kageyama didn't help by tantalizing him, telling him he was a clutz and I could've been hurt.
I looked up, and around at the group of people surrounding me. They were asking if I was okay and trying to make me feel better even though nothing too serious had happened. And out of no where I began to laugh. My laughter got louder, and I clutched my stomach.
"She's delirious!" Yelped Yamaguchi.
"N-noo!" I said trying to control myself. "You guys are way too much." They all looked at me, confused. I said again, "I'm gonna be just fine. You guys have to practice, and you're spending all this time on me. It was just an accident. I can take care of myself for the rest of practice, you guys better get to work." They smiled at me, seeing that I took their consideration.
"Alright, whatever you say assistant manager." Daichi said.
I stood up and made my way to the bleachers, and watched as the team continued warming up. Kiyoko sat down next to me.
"Funny how much they care about everyone on the team, huh?" She asked. I nodded and smiled.

I took some pain killers and sat on the couch to watch Netflix. My phone buzzed, and I pulled it out of my pocket. A number I'd seen before, but it wasn't saved in my phone. Reluctantly, I answered.
"Hello?" Oikawa's voice was soft and easy.
"Hi." I said quickly. I paused the show to hear him better.
"If I acted like a jerk, I'm sorry." He said. At this, I was shocked. From what I'd known of him so far, the regretful voice coming from the speaker did not match my previous knowledge. After I did not say anything, he said, "I might've been inappropriate the other night on the phone. I was wondering if you'd want to possibly go somewhere with me. But if you don't want to, then I'll get it."
I sat silently for a few seconds, processing his words. Then one escaped my own lips, and I ended the call.
