thirteen.

The car ride was painfully awkward and silent for a good ten minutes.

Besides the fact that the radio was on...

But if you know Colby Brock like I do, he'll speak eventually.

Which he did.

"So, why exactly are you going to the airport?" He asks, not daring to look at me. Also because he was driving.

"I'm going back to Kansas," I reply, glancing at him. He was just wearing a black t-shirt and some jeans with a messy hairstyle. He must've not remembered to comb it because it was curly a little but oh so attractive. I'm trying so hard not to stare because he'll notice, I bet.

"Yeah, well cool but why leave now?" He asks, actually interested. Dream Colby wasn't really like this. Dream Colby was an asshole.

This Colby is a good person, which makes it much harder for me to hate him.

"Because it's my mom's birthday and my sister is coming too, I guess," I mumble.

"Mama Neil and Kate, nice... I always thought your sister was cute," He chuckles.

"What! You weirdo, why would you ever have that thought," I say, surprised, smacking his arm.

"If it makes you feel any better, I think you're cuter, geez," He murmurs loud enough for me to hear.

Did he.

Huh.

What.

Did he just call me cute? Because my sister is CUTE and he called me, cuter? Woah.

"Okay..." I say, suspiciously.

"So, you getting away from Ellie?" He asks, nonchalantly.

"Wh-what, no," I stutter.

"C'mon liar, I know you too well. She'd be driving you to the airport and not me if you two weren't being petty," He smirks.

"Don't even start about that night, I just want to forget it so I don't have anymore pettiness."

"Oh, well I'm good with that then," He says, abashed.

"Good," I sigh.

A few awkward seconds go by. I didn't want to talk but I prepared myself to, knowing he'll want to ask me more questions.

He finally, hesitantly asks, "Are you and Sam becoming... close?"

"I guess, he's a great person to be around," I shrug, looking out the window.

"Right,... well are you guys going to start dating?"

"I don't know, I wouldn't mind if he asked me out though," I grin, slightly.

"Wow, well I didn't see that coming," He yawns, "Don't break his fragile heart if you date my best friend."

"Don't break my best friend's fragile heart, because you're dating her now," I say back.

"Girls are so strange," He shakes his head, "One second they're hating each other and the next, they're defending each other."

"What's that pose to mean?" I furrow my eyebrows.

"When guys get pissed, we get pissed. Then if somebody asks us about who we're pissed about, we tell them why they suck." He says that like it's no big deal, but I couldn't help to think he was implying Sam. Since he was out with two other guys yesterday without him.

"Do you do that?" I ask.

"I'm a guy, so yeah."

"Do you even do that to your best friend?" I interrogate.

"No- uh sometimes I guess..." He says, cautiously.

"You talked crap behind Sam's back to Gabe and Corey!" I gasp.

"No, I hung out with Gabe and Corey, and we just talked about him," He tries to persuade, but I see through his fakeness.

"Wrong, you. Right, me. Stop lying, you asshole. Guys are as petty as girls," I accuse.

"So what, in the end we never mean it and it wasn't even mainly about him," He says, now taking a few looks at me every now and then.

"But still, Colby." I glare at him and he catches me. But I wasn't hiding the glare.

"It mainly wasn't about Sam, there was another person involved that I talked about!"

"Whatever, Brock." I continue to watch the palm trees and houses pass by, out the window.

He rolls his eyes. Now it's my turn to ask something.

"Why are you driving me?"

"Because you needed a ride," He says, but that's bullshit.

"Lies. Why are you really driving me, Brock." I say, getting all up in his face.

"Hey, I'm driving! Don't come so close when I have your life in the palm of my hands," He says, trying to change the subject.

"Cole 'something' Brock, why are you driving me?" I say, louder.

"It's Robert, if you really wanted to know the 'something'," He sighs.

"DUDE, stop changing the subject!"

He puts a hand up in surrender, "Fine! Because I felt bad I guess."

I look at him confused, "You? Felt bad? For what, exactly?"

"I mean, that night though..."

I roll my eyes, "'That night though'" I mimick.

"We didn't do anything bad!" He says.

"Sure ya did," I shout, sarcastically.

"Well, you did some bad things too with Sam, ya piece of garbage," He deadpans.

"We had some fun, it wasn't like we got caught in our act. On the other hand, you guys got caught!"

"Fuck youuu," He rolls his head.

I turn away from him, "Fuck you baaack."

We both don't say another word.

Cole Robert Brock is his full name. Sounds like a knight name.

Sir Cole Robert Brock.

Thinking about that made me laugh, and I was trying so hard not to giggle in the midst of our small fight.

"What's so funny," Colby asks, looking at me as we're at a stoplight.

"You, your name," I giggle. It's so hard for me to be serious, this is just embarrassing.

"What? What's so funny about my name?" He questions, confused and annoyed again.

"Haha, it sounds like a knight's name. I don't know why I thought of that just now, but it's funny," I try to hold back my laugh with my hand covering my mouth, but it didn't prevail a thing.

He raises an eyebrow, "Seriously? You're laughing about that? You're stupid."

"It's not stupid, nor am I... Sir Cole Robert Brock," I burst out laughing.

He looks away but I catch him smile, "You're probably the weirdest kid I know."

"I'm fine with that," I reply, now calming down.

This moment was reminding me of the time at the mountain. We were nice to each other, and that's a bit similar to what is happening now. Though, this moment was also a good opportunity to get answers from him.

In the form of a game.

"Ya wanna play a game?"

He scratches his tired eyes, "What game?"

"Truth or truth," I smirk.

"Hm, sounds boring," He replies.

"What, c'mon Colbs let's do it!" I beg.

"Colbs? Hmph, cute."

"Boy, do you wanna play, yes or no," I roll my eyes.

"Sure, I guess."

"Truth or truth?" I grin.

"Wow, so many options! Which one should I choose?" He fake exaggerates, "Truth, biiitch."

"I'll start easy, do you prefer short girls or tall girls?" I ask and then end with, "Biiitch." I'm actually interested in his type, even though I'll never take use in the information.

"Uhm, either one is fine as long as they're not over 5'11"," He says.

"So anybody not taller than you."

"Precisely," He taps his fingers on the wheel and begins to drive again at the green light. "Truth or extra truth?"

"Oh so we playin like that..." I say, rubbing my hands together. He nods. "Okay, extra truth."

"Ah, alright this shall get dirty, since ya know. I gotta get the dirt on my enemy," He says, evilly. "Tell me the story about your first dirty dream."

I freeze, because my first dirty dream was about him.

"Uhm, that sounds like a statement so next question," I awkwardly say while readjusting my shirt collar.

"Fine, lemme rephrase. What was your first dirty dream like?" He smirks again.

Oh god, I'm going to have to tell him some of it.

"Well, it was very, erm uncomfortable. Since it was in public," I mumble.

"Ashlyn 'something' Neil had a dirty dream!" He screams.

"It's Mackenzie, if you really wanted to know the 'something'," I say, agitated and as cocky as him before.

"Whatever, talk more."

"Well it was in a movie theatre, but we didn't like fuck or anything. Well okay, this is more of a story," I trail.

"We got some time, I'm actually really interested in this," He says.

"Perv," I shout.

"Nope just a horny boy," He laughs.

I scrunch my nose and close my eyes, "Gross, now I'm uncomfortable. I don't wanna tell my dirty dream to a horny Colby."

"I'm kiddin, Ash. Just go on with the truth," He grins.

"Kay, well I was at the movie theatre with this guy and his girlfriend. Then I went to go to the bathroom and he came in too. This guy was someone I hated but I-umm, I liked him in this, and he and I made out secretly in the girl's bathroom."

I just told Colby Brock,my crush, a dream practically about him.

"Scandalous... did the guy's girl find out?" He questions, amused.

"I don't know, I woke up after he uh... okay nevermind the rest is dream history," I half laugh to make it less uncomfortable.

"Damn, Ashlyn Mackenzie Neil is scandalous in a public movie theatre restroom," He chuckles.

"I know, I've never told anybody that so whatever happens in this car, stays in this car," I say vigorously.

"Got it... hey what am I suppose to tell Ellie and Sam when they ask where you are?" He asks.

"Just tell them that I'm in Kansas for my Mom's birthday and I'll be back in a week."

"Okay so don't tell them you wanted to take a break from seeing them because you hate them? Okay, got it."

"Shut up, Brock," I say, slapping his arm.

"I'm hilarious, how can you not see it," He grins.

"Sorry I can't see pass a solid wall of dick," I snicker.

"But I got a dick, and it is solid so," He says, with a dirty tone.

"That literally sounds like you have a hard on," I look at him like he was stupid. He is, stupid.

He bursts out laughing, "Okay, let's just stop this, too early in the morning to talk about this."

"You're the one who's playing it naughty!"

He gets taken aback, "Whatever is said in this car, stays in this car!"

"True, but we got an issue."

"What?"

"This is Sam's car," I snort.

"Dammit! Okay let's pretend this is my car, so when I actually do get my car, whatever we say there, stays there," He negotiates, "My car can be like, our place when we gotta talk about something real dirty and personal."

I giggle, "Our place? Aight, pinky promise on the car's life?" I hold out my pinky finger.

"Pinky promise on the car's life," He connects our pinky fingers and that was basically our "shake on it".

"We're here!" Colby says, pulling up to LAX airport. He makes his way to the drop off area in the front.

"Wow, here I am again. Thanks Colbs, I actually really appreciate it," I say, unbuckling my seatbelt and getting out the car.

"You better appreciate it! I'm missing sleep for your ass. But you're welcome," He cheekily says, from out the window.

"Whatever, don't mess up my room when I'm gone!" I yell, "Open the trunk?" Colby gets out the car and opens the trunk and gets my luggage for me.

"Well thank you kind Sir, Cole Robert Brock," I say, taking my suitcase from him.

He shakes his head in 'whatever', "No problem, have a safe flight, Neil," He says, closing the trunk.

I begin to walk into the doors, and he stands there, watching me go. Before I advance into the airport, I don't know what came over me to say this, but I'm glad I did.

"You're not so bad, Colby."

He smiles, "Neither are you, Ashlyn."

I smile back, and walk into the airport.

See you later, California.

See you later, Colby.

I was mainly leaving to get away from you, and your asshole self and my petty best friend, but,

I don't think you're the main reason anymore.

You're still my rival, but you're not so bad.

Which blows even more, because I'm suppose to hate you.

I still hate, liking my rival.

Sadly.
