Tomboy ~ Story 4 ~ Part 3

I ran onto the court and started dribbling the ball towards the net. He realised what I was doing and scoffed but chased after me nonetheless. I was about to shoot when Akito tackled me and stole the ball.

"That's the end of that!" He said smugly, bouncing the ball in a spot. He stopped bouncing the ball and stretched it above his head as I came towards him. I tried taking it off of him but he was just too damn tall. He laughed evilly.

"Ugh not fair!" I groaned. With one final, powerful jump I knocked it out of his hand but tripped and fell. "AAAHH!" I shouted and braced myself for the fall but I didn't hit the pavement. Instead I fell on......oh shiz Captain Nakamura Akito?!

"Oww...mind getting off me?!" He scowled. "I'm so sorry captain! It was an accident!" I stuttered, my cheeks were red with embarrassment. I just looked like a dope in front of my captain. "Yeah ok. I'm fine just do me a favour and get off!" I scrambled off of him and sat down. We'd lost the ball so just sat there for a while.

"We thought we heard someone out here." The team had come for early morning practice. Kotake (who'd also gotten into the team was holding our ball, bouncing it every now and then. "So much for being the first ones on the court. Who would've thought you two would be seen together practicing too."

"Yeah! This morning's full of surprises!" Smirked another member (I think his name was Kano). I glanced over at Akito who was clenching his fists in annoyance but blushing ever so slightly too (I concluded that it was probably from the heat or something).

I got up and dusted off my joggers. "Alright let's get started!" I cheered pumping my fist in the air. Everyone mimicked me and replied "Yeah!" I looked like the team leader, leading the warm ups, yelling instructions. Akito wasn't pleased at all.

I looked at his annoyed face and sniggered to myself. If I kept this up I could one-up my all time rival! "Yes!" I whispered to myself at my genius plan.

"Time for a break! Class is starting soon!" Akito yelled taking on role as captain again. I could feel him glaring behind me as I washed my face at the taps. "I know what you're doing. Stop it." He said bluntly. "Just because we've been slightly against girls joining our team doesn't mean you can go ahead and take over. I thought you were going to actually try and help us." He sighed and washed his face once a tap was free to use.

I was feeling slightly saddened by his words. I did want to help the team but I wanted to show that girls were just as, if not more, capable than boys. 'Since when did you care about that spoilt brat's feelings (f/n)?! Don't tell me you're becoming soft!' I shouted at myself. I've always hated the idea of boys and I joined the team to outrank them so why am I taking their feelings into account now?!

I huffed in frustration and stomped off to my lesson. I avoided contact with Akito throughout the whole day. He was too popular to come into close contact with anyway. When it was lunch I made my way up to my favourite spot; the roof.

I loved sitting there feeling the wind against my face, watching everyone, as tiny as ants, below me. It was soothing I usually came here to get away from school hassle before it became a regular place for me to hang around.

Suddenly the door burst open. I hid behind the wall to see who'd come in. Whoever it was, they were panting, meaning they'd ran up here. "Those girls really don't know how to stop do they..." He sighed. His breathing heavy and fast paced. I recognised the voice immediately.

Why of all people did it have to be him!

Akito leaned against the fence, looking down at the courts. "Yo." I said from behind, scaring the living day lights out of him. "Oh geez (y/n)! You scared me half to death!" He yelled. I burst out laughing. "Haha that expression was priceless!" I was tearing up from laughing so hard, I had to clutch my sides to balance myself out.

"It's not that funny!" He muttered angrily. I decided to change the subject; we had practice after school and who knows what he'd do to me after I insulted him.

"Where's your lunch?" I asked sitting myself down by his feet. "Taken by a fangirl, where else?" He sighed. I didn't know whether to laugh or to sympathise. "Here have some of mine," I said, giving him a packet of crisps and half my sandwich. He looked at it in disgust as I waved my hand around. His stomach rumbled embarrassingly loud and he had no choice but to take my food. He refused to say thank you but I didn't really care. After lunch I didn't see Akito again. Soon enough it was time fur after school practice and I was unusually excited to see him again, for no apparent reason.

We ran around the courts and dud a series of stretches to warm up before splitting up into two teams and playing a short game. Akito assessed us all, finding areas for us to improve on. I realised I'd doubted him, maybe being captain was less easy than I originally thought.

He told everyone their strengths and improvements and then came to me. "Right (l/n) (f/n)," he began. "Just call me (nickname)!" I interrupted. "Fine (nickname)," my name sounded weird coming from his mouth. I didn't know why, his voice was the same as usual and everyone else called me by that name with no kind of effect.

"You're extremely good at passing and dribbling across the court. But your shooting skills could use some work." I nodded, agreeing with his judgement. He cleared the net area and created room for me. I began shooting quickly and sharply. For sons reason my accuracy was off in the majority of my shots. This had never happened before.

Akito took the ball of me and said "here let me show you a better technique." He demonstrated a flawless overhead shoot that landed perfectly into the net. I watched in awe as the most amazing shit I'd ever seen took place. "You tend to shoot from your chest and I thinks that's why it's not going in right. You could also try a one-handed over shoulder shoot if it's easier." I tried following his advice but ultimately failed.

I was confused. Usually I could learn things quick and easy but for some reason I couldn't concentrate around the captain today. He sighed at my desperate attempts to shoot. Eventually he got fed up and walked up to me. He placed the ball in my hands and spread my fingers wide across the ball's surface. He cupped his hands over mine and I blushed slightly. I could feel him pulling my arms over my head and then bending them into position.

"Now bend your knees to create a powerful jump." I did as I was told. "Now...shoot!" He said letting go of my hands. I pushed forward and watched as the ball flew straight into the net. "I did it!" I cheered in victory and I could see, through the corner of my eye, Akito laughing at my childish actions.

"You sure did kiddo." He said teasingly wrapping his arm round my neck and ruffling my hair. "Hey....q...quit it!" I said pushing away. I was flustered, my face was bright red and I could feel my cheeks and ears burning. 'Am I kid in his eyes?' I thought to myself. But then I realised that wasn't the reason I was so embarrassed.

The worst thing that possibly could have happened just did. I'd fallen in love with Nakamura Akito, my captain!
