I Didn't Like People~ Story 9

You laughed at the childish antics happening in your class. Everyone faintly resembled monkeys. And then there was the leader, normally referred to as an ape, who was much more like a chimpanzee. This leader happened to be your forever long unrequited love, underlining unrequited.

The truth was, the chimpanzee, commonly known as Tetsuya Jun, used to be your best friend. As toddlers you were inseparable, it was just you two against the world, however, over time he'd grown apart from you, to the boys in school. You couldn't really blame him though, animals had to be set free to go off with their own kind.

You didn't really enjoy interacting with humans, you didn't like the idea of them at all to be honest. You liked animals a lot more than people and that's why you made everyone you know resemble animals, so it was easier to communicate with them. It sounded weird but that's how you decided to live your life.

"Hey! (F/n)!" Jun called out to you. You snapped out of your daze and faced the scruffy brunette. "Hm?" You hummed.

"Did you do the maths homework?" Oh, this again. He'd always ask you if you'd done your homework when he hadn't. So that he could copy.

"Of course I have Tetsuya." You said smiling. He smiled widely and grabbed your hands. "May I pretty please have your answers?" He put on a pout and puppy dog eyes, but you didn't ever fall for it.

"Oh sorry, I've already handed it in to the teacher." A lie that was skilfully executed. You gave a sly grin and a wink. "How unlucky you are Tetsuya!"
He seemed dumbfounded for a while. "Maybe next time," you smiled and walked out of form for next class.

"H...hey wait!" But it was too late. And lucky for you, you both had different classes next period. After break you had math and in order to get away with the lie you had told earlier, you went to class early.

"Ah, miss (l/n) what brings you here?" The teacher questioned. You were favourite student so she wasn't disappointed to have a visit now and again.

"I wanted to give you the uh homework." You stuttered handing out the homework sheets. "But why now? You have me in a few minutes don't you?" She asked. You could trust your teacher so told her why, she already knew the trouble Jun caused to you.

"Oh if that's the case then thank you (f/n)" and she took the sheets. "It was smart of you to use a cunning lie like that but was it necessary? Try just saying no."

"You've seen how persistent he is, would that really work?" You said raising an eyebrow. The teacher sighed and shook her head. "You have a point there (f/n). Oh well, why don't you help me out get prepared for lesson, if anyone asks, I'll say it's for a point on the system." She winked. You liked sensei, she was graceful and intelligent, like an owl in the shell of a swan. You helped prepare the classroom and took your seat.

The bell rang for the start of 3rd period. Everyone rushed in like a stampede of elephants. No one really noticed you just sitting there before anyone else for two reasons:
1) You weren't very popular so people didn't notice you,
And
2) People were used to you being early for lessons.

The lesson went by as usual. The pop quiz didn't surprise you like it did everyone else thanks to your kind offer to set out the lesson. In all honesty, even though the teacher was nice, you didn't particularly enjoy math so the class was boring and dragged on for a while.

When everyone got up and headed out of class, a hand grabbed your wrist, keeping you back. You turned around to face Jun. "I saw what you did there." He smirked, eyebrow raised.

"I have no idea what you're talking about," you replied, sarcastically.

"Oh come on! We both know you didn't hand in the homework beforehand and that's why you came to class early!" He paused narrowing his eyes. "And so now you owe me,"

You sighed a long, irritated sigh. "Fine. What do you want," you breathed.

"I want you to come with me to the school festival!" Before you could interrupt, he carried on. "And don't even think about saying no!"

"There's no way I can go! I mean you know I don't do well in places with big crowds!" You protested. He knew about your disliking of people but still wanted you to go out and enjoy yourself. After all, he never actually stopped being your friend, you just weren't aware.

"You've gotten away with it for this many years but you won't get away with it this time! Don't worry you'll be with me the whole time so nothing can go wrong!"

"But..." You started only to be cut off.

"No buts! I'll meet you at the gate at 5 and you better be there!" You nodded your head and just went with it, there was no point in arguing.

The rest of school went by fairly quickly and normally with nothing too out of the ordinary happening. One you'd reached home, you suddenly remembered about the festival.

"4 o'clock already?" You panicked, trying to figure how you'd go about this.

First was the outfit. Luckily for you, you had an older sister whom frequently went to festivals and such. You knocked on the door.

"Come in!" She yelled, her mouth full of, probably chocolate.

"Um, hi s-sis," you stuttered. "C-can I ask a favour?" She nodded saying something undistinguishable from the amount of food in her mouth. It was most likely 'sure thing, ask away!'.

"Can I borrow a yukata for the festival tonight? I'm planning to go with a friend." She almost choked on get chocolate when you'd finished the sentence.

"You! Plan to go to a festival?" She asked, astonished. You just simply nod in response. "Oh this is big! Very big. This something to go down in the (l/n) family history book!" She took a deep breath. "And just because this is so big of an event, I'll help you, just leave everything to me!" You were hesitant for a moment but accepted. She was your sister so how bad could it be?

After what seemed forever but was only actually 45 minutes, she was done. You looked in the mirror: you were wearing a (f/c) (f/pattern) yukata and had matching shoes; your hair was up in a braided bun and your makeup was discreet, but noticeable. For a while, you were speechless and just stared at your sister, who was smirking.

Taking a quick glance at the clock you managed to find your words and say "uh sis, I uh better get going..." Before you left, she stopped you and put a beautiful (f/c) rose hairpin in your hair. As you walked out, you could hear her sigh "Perfect."

You arrived at the gate exactly at 5 and waited there a few mins. After a about 5 minutes a figure approached you, he was wearing a hoodie over a gaming t-shirt, skinny jeans and red and white converse. 'Casual attire suits Tetsuya' you thought.

"Hi!" He panted. "Sorry I'm late!"

"When are you ever on time?" You laughed. He gave you his hand and you stood up from the step you'd been sitting on, so he was now able to see your full outfit.

"Wow never in a million years did I expect you to come here like this!" He breathed, a slight blush threatening to stain his cheeks.

You were disheartened by this.

"W-why? Is it that weird? Do I look bad?" You said, your voice wavering.

"N-no way! That's not what I meant! I meant I didn't expect you to wear this sort of girly look and moreover I didn't expect you to look so pretty in it!" He stammered, definitely blushing. You were taken aback by this sudden outburst by managed to make a small thank you, before being too embarrassed to talk.

Both of you walked in and the 'fun' started. Jun seemed to be having the time of his life, playing around and winning things. You just tagged along and watched him quietly. When you reached the dart boards, Jun looked at you and said "This is my all time favourite! And you're going to play!" He payed for 3 goes each and took your arm. He guided your hand and showed you how to pull back and shoot. After you tried alone, you found a talent for it and managed to win a small stuffed cat.

This stall acted like a trigger and suddenly you decided to try out more stalls and began enjoying yourself a lot more than you expected. You were about to try the claw machine when Jun stopped you.

"Look at the time!" He started. "We need to get to the bonfire!" And with that he ran, dragging you along to a roaring pit of vicious red, blood orange and sparks of almost titanium white.

"Why did you take us here Tetsuya? I was finally getting into the swing of things!" You whined. He let go of your hand and moved to the back of his neck, rubbing it.

"Well you see there's this rumour about confessing to the one you like at the bonfire..." He began, his voice nervous and shy.

"Oh you mean the one that if you confess on this night your guaranteed to have your feelings accepted and go out smoothly and well?" You carried on smiling at the thought of the adorable little saying. He nodded. "And you brought me here to cheer you on?"

He took an abnormally large breath in. "N-not quite. You see, I brought you here because we've been friends for the longest of times and even though I'd been ignoring you by accident, you still talked and helped me. For that I never stopped liking you or wanting to be your friend." He took another deep breath. He seemed calmer, meanwhile, you, were in suspense, where was this going? "What I'm trying to say is, (l/n) (f/n)-chan, you are the prettiest, smartest, most amazing girl I know and I happen to really really really like you! So, would you please do the honour of being my girlfriend?"

Your heart stopped beating right then. Tears were threatening to fall. There were no words to describe your happiness at that moment. Your face was red and no words would could come out of your mouth. Instead you wrapped your arms around his waist and cried into his chest."

"Of course I will Tetsuya Jun!" He hugged you tighter and grinned wildly to himself.

"Then this is gotta be the best day of my life!" He let go of you and looked into your eyes, smiling.

"M-monkey." You mumbled, to start a conversation.

"What?"

"Whenever you smile you remind me of a monkey," you finished. He laughed hysterically, tears forming in the corner of his eyes.

"I see so that's what you think of me. I was always wondering what animal you resembled me to." You both laughed. Suddenly there was a loud beep, before an announcement was made, talking about the fireworks and how they would start in a few minutes. Jun grabbed your hand yet again and took you to a little area he called 'his favourite firework viewing spot'.

There you both sat down and watched the most amazing firework display you'd ever seen, no that you'd seen many. "Wow I never knew they were this beautiful," you breathed.

"C-compared to the fireworks, (f/n) is more beautiful." He mumbled, blushing. You began to laugh. "Where did that come from? Straight out of a shoujo manga?".

"I thought girls liked that sorta stuff." You chuckled lightly. " Don't worry, I'm fine with you being yourself." You smiled as you rested your head on his shoulder. There was almost a minute of silence before he replied.

"In that case," he began and slowly held your chin, lifting your head up to face him. "I won't hold back, ok?"

"Wai-" but it was too late. His lips were on yours. They were like that for a minute or two before he pulled back. He gave you an Eskimo kiss and whispered sweetly. "I love you."

Leaning your head back into the crook of his neck, you replied. "I love you too, Jun."
