Headphones ~ Story 8

He was humming along to his favourite song out loud in class again. It was driving me crazy. I mean, sure, I'm young, I'm supposed to be crazy about music but it just doesn't cut it for me. I don't see what's so good about it, it's just a loud, disruptive nuisance and I H-A-T-E it!

I banged my fist on the table to get his attention. He looked at me, slightly startled. I put a finger on my lips and sshed so he'd get the message, he just shrugged and went back to humming. I cupped my hands over my ears and sighed. He just chuckled quietly to himself.

It has been like this for at least a month, ever since our seating plan had changed. I was originally at the front, where I was able to hear the teacher and learn accordingly but I was now at the back, next to the loud and obnoxious Sato (short for Satoshi) Ushida.

All he would do is hum and sing along to music while drawing and scribbling things down into a old, overused notebook.

When the lesson finally finished I walked up to him and stopped him from leaving he turned around and scoffed when he saw it was me. "What do you want nerd?" I glared at his remark before speaking.

"Can you please shut up during lessons Sato? You're really annoying and I can't hear anything." I winged. "Then aren't I doing you a favour?" I shook my head. It annoyed me how people didn't understand the full potential of learning and school. Especially Sato, for some reason if it was to do with him, I'd somehow become involved, one way or the other. I didn't mind it, it just got annoying. He didn't appreciate that I was doing him a favour.

"You are most certainly not helping me! I come to school to learn, not listen to someone humming, this isn't a concert!" I said, raising my voice slightly. "Sorry, miss teacher's pet." He scowled sarcastically. He was just so frustrating. "Shut up!" You snarled, threatening.

"Why are you so against music?" He shouted as he followed me. We had been arguing for a good several minutes now. "Because it's stupid and pointless!" I sighed. I knew he was offended by what I said but I didn't care. Suddenly I was brought to a halt. He grabbed my hand and looked at me, serious.

"What if I showed you the greatness of music?" He said sternly. I rolled my eyes and shrugged. He dragged me to the music room, one of my least favourite rooms ever. "Put these on!" He said and put headphones onto my head. I just sighed. He played one of his mixes and I listened, not very interested. He went through his playlist and anything that came to my ears made me yawn and slump onto my arm, daydreaming away. "There must be something you like!" He seemed deep in thought but then "I've got it! You must be the kind to like this sort of music!" He played a series of rather unique songs.

For some reason these peeked my interest. I seemed to enjoy these slightly more than I expected and was soon humming along, tapping my fingers. He paused the music and took off my headphones. "Did you like those songs" I nodded vigorously. He cheered and shot his fist up in the air. "Yes Finally!!" He yelled in victory. I just laughed.

"Hey Sato?" He looked at me. "Why were you so content on making me like music?" He smiled. "Because I wanted you to share my love for such an amazing thing. I wanted you to enjoy something fun!" He replied. "But why me?" I questioned. He thought for a little bit then said " Well you're always making me study, which is something you love, so I decided to make you listen to music, which is something I love." He looked out the window, as if hiding the rest of what he wanted to say.

I just replied simply with a "Touché..." He laughed. "I'm still not a big fan of music but I guess I don't hate it anymore," he butted in "like me and studying!" We both laughed.

The bell rang for the end of lunch and we returned to lessons, everything was going surprisingly well, he seemed to respect my wish of quietness. That was until school was over and we were in art club. We sat beside each other since everyone else was from a different class and didn't really get along with is well.

He began putting on his headphones and sketching the bowl of fruit in front of us. I was fine with it until he started humming. I paused his music and took off his headphones. "Do you mind?" He shook his head and attempted to take his headphones back. "Shut up and you'll get them back!" He looked at me sternly "No I won't" I simply told him he wouldn't get them back. "Give them!" He whined. "Then shut up!" "Make me!" He stated.

"I'll give you chocolate." He shook his head. "Money?" No "food?" Nope. "A kiss?" I clasped my hands over my mouth as I realised what I'd said. His eyes widened, to my surprise. He wasn't shaking his head... Oh damn.

"Ok then." My eyes widened. "I was joking!" "Then I won't shut up, simple as!" I sighed, if this was what it had come to. Although, for some reason I wasn't too fussed about it, in fact, I maybe wanted to do it? Wait what was I saying?! Ugh, what has this guy done to me?

"I'm waiting!" He winged. Taking a deep breath, I moved my face closer to his, closer and closer until there was barely any gap. He pulled my hand and the gap completely disappeared. Our lips had met. I instantly pulled back blushing. "H...Happy now?!" He smirked and nodded, taking back his headphones.

We continued the rest of the day in an awkward silence, holding hands under the desk.
