Twenty One
I wasn't sure how long we've been stuck in this damp cell. It could've been a couple a days or even a week at best. I've tried to calculate the hours that passed by counting the trays of food that were sent to us each day.
However that varied considering how much food that was given. It would be a large food amount that could last Levi and I the whole day. Or even two trays of food that would have small portions. Either way I had carelessly lost count and gave up on trying again.
No guards were posted outside the cell as well. In fact, Levi and I were the only ones down here. The only time I were to see another person was when I shouted for them on the floor above to use the restroom or when they allowed us out one by one to clean ourselves.
With nothing to do I sit atop my bed while staring blankly at the flickering torch light in the hall. There was barely enough light, the corners of the cell were dark as night. Levi has not spoken a decent word to me ever since we were locked up.
I would either get a unique curse from him or a smart-ass insult. It was annoying as hell but I gladly return the favor but with a little bite to my words. His presence even made my mood foul but alert as ever.
I couldn't even get a wink of sleep due to his overwhelming presence. I was well aware of the many times I wake up in the middle of the night and see him sitting on his bed staring at a wall or the flickering light. Not once have I caught Levi sleeping or dozing off.
I pondered at the thought wondering if he ever slept at all. I could ask but had no indulgence to keep a conversation going.
"You're going to burn your eyes if you keep staring at the flame." I hear Levi grumble. I roll my eyes at his comment before releasing an exasperated sigh.
"I'm not going to burn my eyes, idiot. Mind your damn business for once."
Levi scoffs but doesn't say more. However, I did hear heavy breathing then some muttering to my left. Curious, I tear my eyes away from the light.
It takes me moment to readjust to the dimness in this cell. I didn't want to admit it but, my eyes did sting a little when I blinked. I was able to finally see something on the floor just a couple feet away from me.
It went up and down swiftly like it was doing push-ups. The bottom part only grazes the floor before pushing itself back up again. I stare at it for a long moment, awing the gracefulness it had as well as the strength.
I curse the damn lighting, I could only make out the outline. I couldn't see what it was no matter how much I squinted. A loud sigh rings in my ears and the figure stops moving. My lips begin to pull down into a small frown as displeasure meets my eyes.
"Why did it stop?" I huff to myself.
"Why did what stop?"
I flinch to the husky voice. The hell? I never anticipated for this thing to speak. Hell, I didn't even anticipate it's voice to rumble whatever that's inside me.
Secretly, I found that enjoyable. I watch it as it slowly stands, its head thrown back as it wipes the sweat off with a hand. I tremble atop my bed, my lips becoming dry.
I couldn't hear anything besides the loud beating of my heart. It stalks towards Levi's bed, the light finally cascaded down its figure. The body was human, its skin the color of ivory.
But sweat was making it glistened in the torch light. Its bare back was faced towards me and I was surprised at the amount of muscle in their back. They were all cut and defined, the way the light was bouncing off their muscles suddenly had me gaping like an idiot.
"Why are you staring at me like that?" Levi's voice pulls me out of daze. I blink feverishly before tearing my eyes away from that sculpted back.
Him? Why would I be staring at him? That puny captain has nothing compared to this stranger.
However, when when I rove my eyes up the body I'm greeted with a pair of silver eyes. Levi was glancing over his shoulder, his eyes narrowed into an accusing glare. His hair was sticking to his forehead due to the sweat.
In fact, his entire face was covered in sweat. I could hear his heavy breathing and even took notice to the way his lips parted as he breathed. My heart jolts into my throat as I feel myself stiffen at the sudden sight.
The sweat, the heavy breathing, I was suddenly confused by it all. I thought he was lounging on his bed like usual. Yet, his appearance told me otherwise.
There was no stranger in this cell, it's always been us. Which means I wasn't just gawking at a random person's body. I was gawking at Levi's.
Nothing seemed to register in my head. I couldn't think but could only stare. Surprised as I was I don't respond to Levi's demand.
Instead, I rove my eyes up and down his body. He had discarded his button shirt leaving his upper body bare. He only wore his white pants that seemed to fit his small waist ever so perfectly.
I don't complain at the sight. To my startling surprise, I truly enjoyed the sight. I never expected Captain Levi to have such a handsome back or even have extraordinary muscles.
He wasn't overly built but built enough to put definition onto his small body. He looked amazing. I only wondered what his front looked like.
"Oi, I asked you a question, pervert." I cringe at the nickname with a fury red blush creeping to my cheeks.
"I'm not a pervert!" I defend too loudly. "You just--you just surprised me that's all."
Levi eyes me firmly as if he could see through my words. I wasn't lying though. His appearance truly gave my body a startle but, in a good way. He gives me a simple huff and turns around fully to face me.
"What a load of BS," he scoffs while crossing his arms over his chest. "For the last two minutes you've been staring at me like a peeping Tom. My body isn't for creeps like you to gawk at."
A part of me couldn't seem to agree with his statement but I'm not a creep. His body was just surprisingly mesmerizing and well sculpted. I lost all capacity to breathe when I finally got a glimpse of his entire front.
His abs was exactly what I imagined a guy's abs to look like. Perfect form, beautifully cut in all the right places. It even was glazed in sweat.
His collarbone and pecks were just as equally well formed. I wasn't sure if it was just me but the entire cell started to feel warm. And that was a first, it always been cold and damp.
Yet my skin felt hot underneath all my clothing with sweat coating my temples. I was taking in heavy breaths gaining me a questioning gaze from the Captain. I force myself to remember my place and remember who I'm looking at.
"O-of course your body isn't for gawking!" I shout awkwardly. I fiercely turn my head away in hopes of using the shadows to cover my immense blush. "Who would want to stare at that pasty skin anyway!"
"Oi, my skin isn't pasty!" Levi shouts offensively. "You watch your mouth, brat!"
I groan loudly before throwing my body on to the mattress with my back to Levi. My heart still rapped ridiculously fast against my chest and it was scaring the living lights out of me. It was loud enough for me to wonder if Levi could hear it too.
"Just go put on a damn shirt!" I order angrily. I need him to put on something at least. I don't think my body could take whatever repercussion that his body was giving me.
"Tch, as you can see I'm working out, Emma," Levi replies in a obvious tone. It made me click my tongue. "Clearly, that should've been obvious to you since your eyes were glued to me the entire time."
"Then go back to doing push-ups then! I don't care!" My cheeks were on fire, I couldn't seem to calm this damn blush.
His shirtless body was drilled into my brain and I couldn't do anything to get rid of it. I hugged my body tightening my arms around me.
"Why are you trembling?" Levi questions from behind. My spine straightens at his deep voice with my heart skipping a beat. I curse softly to myself.
"Because I'm fricking cold!" I shouted irritably before pulling my blanket over my body. "Got a damn problem?!"
I know I was lying but, there's no way in hell I'll tell him it's because of him. I'd rather dig my grave than that. I began to hear light patters against the stone floor.
I hoped Levi had stopped bothering me now. However, that simple hope was diminished when I feel another blanket being thrown over me. To my surprise, it was Levi's.
"Always too sensitive to the cold," I hear him mutter as he stalks back to the center of the cell. I blink rapidly as I try to compute what just happened. I unconsciously start to bite my lip.
"Don't you need this blanket?" I question.
"Tch, I'm working out, brat," Levi snaps. "I'm not using it."
"I don't need your pity."
"Just say thank you for once!"
I shut my mouth immediately. Well, his grumpy attitude is back. I don't respond as I chose not to say more.
I slowly unlatch my arms around me and grip the blankets. This happened before. I shake my head, pushing that dumb thought away.
Snuggling my face deeper into the blankets I do my best to ignore Levi's heavy breathing.

Screaming.
My head was filled screaming. And I couldn't drown them out. I was lost, unsure what to do.
My body only moved on its own, slashing at any Titan that came across my path. I don't remember why I was fighting. I don't remember why so much pain engulfed my heart.
"EMMA!"
My head automatically swerves to the direction. I see many Scouts fighting for their lives and many being eaten alive. Yet there was one I couldn't take my attention off of.
A young man with the hair of a dusty blond fought viciously for his life. His eyes filled fear as he swing his blade like a madman before him. But he was grabbed from the bottom and was pulled away by the Titan horde.
However that did nothing to calm my beating heart or stop my body from trembling. A Titan had seized him and held him hungrily in front of his face. The man's face was twisted in fear.
He turns to me desperately screaming for me to help him. But I found no strength in me. No matter how much I wished to move, I couldn't.
I could only watch as he was getting closer to the open mouth of a Titan. Tears welled in his eyes, his legs thrashing uncontrollably. He didn't give up on screaming for me yet I wasn't sure why he hasn't.
We both know I wouldn't save him.
I jolt awake. I sit up in an instant with my eyes wide in terror. I listen to my shaking breaths as I try to tell myself it was all a dream.
But I knew it was a wretched memory that I longed to forget. I grit my teeth with tears welling in my eyes.
Why would I always dream of him? Why would it always be that part? I place a clammy hand over my eyes, a throbbing sensation started to form over my temples.
Sleep wasn't happening once again. I release a shaky breath, my body wouldn't stop shaking. Somehow I could still smell the mixture of rain and blood. It terrified me.
"Bad dream?"
I flinch to the sound of the voice, suddenly remembering I wasn't alone. Hesitantly, I glance to my left. I then meet Levi's gaze. He didn't seem too happy.
