His lips were soft and gentle, as everything he does were, barely press against my own. Yet, I was engulfed by that drowning sensation where every nerve in me seemed to be exploding. I couldn't do anything about it, I was enjoying that electrifying feeling.
I was stiff from head to toe, my body refusing to move. My mind was screaming more but my body wasn't responding to my wants. My fingers twitched, I wanted to so badly hold him or even touch him.
I was at the point where I would do anything just to close that small space between us. But when I finally gained that control to kiss Levi back, he pulls away. He left me breathless but also a bit disappointed by the shortness of his kiss.
I don't say a word, I only listened to his heavy breathing and the steps he took backwards. I look at him, his eyes wider than I could imagine and his face redder than a sunset. He looked anywhere but me, truly I found his flustered behavior intriguing but also cute.
"Levi—"
"Forget it," he spits while rubbing his head. "Look, that was something I—I shouldn't have done. So, forget, it." He was trying to layer his words with anger and aim it towards me but it all came out breathless and flustered. To me, it was like this was something he wanted to do. But he wouldn't admit it. "You can go now," Levi murmurs.
I had to smile, now I wasn't going anywhere. "You really think I can forget that?"
I regain the steps he took backwards. Now standing before him he somehow seemed smaller, his shoulders hunched together while he was trying hard to control his fiery blush.
"Yes," he hisses. "Forget everything, brat. That's an order."
"That's an order I can't follow," I purr. Levi shoots me a threatening glare that did nothing but make my heart skip a beat.
"You dare to defy me?" He demands in an authoritative voice. "I am your superior! Not following my order is like—!?"
I crash my lips onto his. God, he was being so annoying. He starts to stumble backwards but I grip his arm to hold him steady.
He tries to yank out of my grip but his strength wasn't all there. It was worthless for him to put up a fight. I relived that fleeting sensation and wished for more.
It was like a high I couldn't get enough of. Once I've tasted it, I wanted more and more. I had to catch my breath, even though I disliked the idea of unlatching my lips from his.
I finally pull away but only enough for us to share a breath. Like me, Levi was breathing heavily. His mouth parted slightly with his eyes hooded in desire.
My heart pounded relentlessly, I thought it would burst out of me. It wasn't enough for me to stay away. Even Levi, no matter how much he tried to hide it, his face was still inching closer to mine.
His nose brushes against mine ever so lightly. His hand felt hot against my skin as he cupped my neck.
"Emma," he breathes huskily. It brought my body into a shiver. "What are we doing?"
I smirk while brushing my lips against his. "Do you care?"
"Not really, no."
"Alright then, don't ask."
"You're such a brat," he scolds.
"I know."
He kisses me once more but this time, with much more heat and energy. He moved his hand to the back of my neck, pushing my head slightly downwards towards him. I had to scoff in the kiss, I did everything in my power to hold in my laugh.
However, it only caused him to pinch on my skin a second later. I drop my jacket and yank him close. His body collides with mine and I wrap my arms around his waist.
I held him close, enjoying the touch of his body against mine. Levi moves his hand and wraps his arms around my shoulders. That's when I couldn't hold it in anymore.
I didn't want to but a soft giggle tickles my throat. Levi abruptly pulls away. He eyes me with speculation while I simply stare back in innocence.
"Why're you laughing?" He demands lowly.
I shrug casually, "I wasn't laughing. Just—breathing. Look, it's not a big deal, you pulled away too soon—"
"You were laughing about my height, weren't you?" He had questioned this when he pulled his head away as I leaned in once more.
He didn't seem all that excited about our situation anymore. He drops his arms and pushes me away.
"You're so cretinous!" He accuses. "How dare you laugh about what I lack!?"
"Who said I was making fun of you?" I frown while crossing my arms defensively.
A brush of cold air greets me and I wasn't all too happy about that. I was especially not happy about Levi pushing me away like that.
"You always know how to ruin everything." Levi fumes. "It's like you strive for it."
I take in a sharp breath, Levi's temper was starting to get the better of him. My wants and desires were starting to disappear. I didn't want my urges to fade but seeing how angry Levi was becoming for something so little brought my blood to a boil.
"You're so sensitive!" I explode. "I wasn't making a direct comment at you."
"But, you were making a comment in your head about me, right?" Levi demands with a glower.
I release a loud, irritated groan. "My god, Levi! I was only thinking about how you seem submissive."
I figured that would lessen the blow. Maybe, he would've been flattered by it. But my hopes were shattered as I hear him take in a stifling gasp.
"How dare you say I'm a bottom!" He yells in rage. "My masculinity wouldn't let me nowhere near being submissive."
"What masculinity?" I mock with a scoff. "You're five-foot three and probably have lighter bone density than me." I frown disapprovingly. "Just admit you're a bottom, Levi. I actually like the way you have to stand on your toes to kiss me and wrap your arms around my neck."
"Well, I don't like it! How about that?!"
It was clear our moment was truly ruined and there was no way to go back to it. Hate coats his eyes while his lips were pulled into a snarl. I, for one, tried my best to keep in my temper.
It was difficult, however, but what was the need if I wasn't going to enjoy the softness of his lips or warp my arms around him? Like alcohol I want more but knew I couldn't go overboard.
Levi looks away with a scoff, "This was a stupid mistake."
"Levi—" He brushes me off and shove last me. Silently, I watch him grasp the doorknob. My mouth opens yet I was confused why. I had nothing to say to him.
"Say this to anyone and you're dead," he warns darkly. Sending me an icy glare over his shoulder, he slams the door behind him.
I stood alone in the middle of my office. Both anger and disappointment swirl inside me. Despite the anger that possessed him and the glare he gave, I still couldn't help but think about how gentle his expression became in our moment.
It brought a flutter in my chest. But without him here it was just a hollow feeling. I bite my lower lip in regret. I wished I hadn't said anything.

Days had gone by without mentioning our secret that night. I thought of it, however. I thought of it every day and every time I ran into the Captain.
As painful it was for me to resist every urge to pull him away somewhere or just have a brush of physical contact there was a silent agreement created between us. Act like nothing happened. And most of all; stay away as much as possible.
This wasn't my choice but Levi's. I couldn't go to his office without a concrete reason nor could I be with him privately. The only time I got to see the petty idiot was during meals and trainings. I was truly miserable.
Walking down the halls, I dreaded my upcoming meeting. It was not about our future missions outside the walls but over the funding of the Scout Regiment. It was a tedious meeting held every few months but, it was a vital one.
And unfortunately, I was the one in charge of the history of our funds as well as the amount we gain every other week. I tighten my grip on my folder, I need to have a clear mind once I walk into the meeting room. Thinking about Levi wouldn't do me any good.
Taking in a deep breath, I find myself standing in front of double oak doors. I imagined myself to be on time and hopefully I was. I wasn't about to make myself a fool in front of dozens high-ranking officers.
Grabbing the knobs, I push open the doors. When I enter I see many wooden tables facing a certain wall. And in front of that wall was another table.
It was where Erwin sat. About two officers accompanied each table, they all wore their formal military green cloaks. Some glance over their shoulders at me, while others skimmed through their notes.
I was surprised to almost everyone was here. Even Hanji, who was usually a few minutes late. She sat in the third row and was second in line.
She was next to Mike and pays little attention to me. I wasn't fazed by it anymore.
"Afternoon, Lieutenant Wolfram."
I blink before staring at the Commander. He nods in greeting before gesturing a hand to the second table in the first row. "The meeting will start in a few minutes."
Nodding mutely I make my way to the table. However, I stop midway when I saw a familiar figure. Levi was also sitting at the table Erwin gestured at.
I curse to myself, I couldn't seem to catch a break. He didn't acknowledge my presence and only stared down at his papers. I bristle lightly as I try to control the irk forming over my temple.
"Is there a problem, Lieutenant?" Erwin asks curiously. When I don't answer immediately, Levi glances at me.
There was disinterest in his eyes but, it also like he was challenging me. He stared at me as though he questioned that as well.
"No," I mutter curtly. "There isn't."
Making my way past Levi's chair I situate myself at his right and sit down. A heavy but awkward tension fogs between us, it was like an anvil was being pushed down my shoulders. It took every fiber in me to resist the urge to look at him.
Hell, it took even greater strength to not "accidentally" brush my shoulder up against his. I knew my thoughts were getting out of hand but, no matter how tight I tightened the leash the more aggressive the thoughts become. Breathing out a soft curse I do my best to listen to Erwin speak.
His little introduction went in one ear and out the next. I only nodded in places where it mattered. I wasn't sure if he was now mentioning our budget or considering how the funds should be used.
Instead, I began to wonder if Levi despises me even more since that night. Or if kissing me was disgusting. Both thoughts were something I don't wish to dwell upon and yet they clouded my mind.
Something warm abruptly bushes up against my hand and I leap in surprise. My eyes quickly dart down to my hand that was rested upon my lap to see another hand that wasn't mine brushing up against mine. My breathing suddenly stops when I see Levi's fingers hesitantly brush against my skin.
His hand shook and his fingers twitched as he reaches for me. I glance up at him in question, I wasn't sure what he was up to. However, his eyes were trained on our Commander and not once does he spare his glance onto me.
It was when he finally grasps my hand does he release a shaky breath with a small blush coating his cheeks. A warmness started to pour into my core. It was like I being brought back to life, the blood in my body began to run hot.
It was the feeling I was somewhat missing for days. I swallow thickly before looking away. And there I sat, holding hands with Levi discreetly.
I knew he wasn't the type to show affection in public. But even so, I was sure he was pissed at me. So what was the meaning of holding my hand?
It seems the answer has shown itself once Levi slowly pulls his hand away. My hand felt empty and cold, his hand had pulled away too quickly. However, when I glance down at my palm I see a small folded paper within my grasp.
