The Sight
Omenstar dreamed.
She was on a sunny meadow. There were many cats playing catch the tail, some of them were sharing tongues, some of them were eating prey, and the rest of them bathed in the bright sun.
"You see?" A voice whispered in her ear, and she whirled around, her heart quickening. The cat she saw made her heart freeze.
"Destinyheart!"
"Yes. I have a sign for you." Destinyheart was barely an outline. Omenstar could only see his warm amber gaze.
Omenstar felt a chill, even though the sun was shining on her fur. She shivered and looked up.
BOOM. Thunder crackled, and the first drops fell to the ground. Thick, dark clouds drifted across the sun. All the cats screeched, and as the rain grew bigger, Omenstar hung her jaw open, feeling the razor-sharp raindrops hit her fur, and saw a huge wave coming from the shore. She tried to run, but her paws felt glued to the grass. As she continued to watch, the wave came closer and closer and swallowed all the running cats with its huge mouth. Omenstar opened her mouth to scream, but no sound came out, and the huge wave engulfed her, the heavy currents dragging her deeper, and stealing the oxygen from her lungs. Omenstar struggled, panic coursing through her. Her lungs shrieked for air. Then, everything turned black.
Omenstar opened her eyes. Her heart raced as if it was being chased by a dog, and her lungs eased to a dull ache. Her muscles refused to move, and she felt so tired......
"Hey, Omenstar!" The bracken shivered as a cat pushed its way into the den. "I'm just about to assign patrols. You also need to get up!"The cat chided.
Omenstar raised her head wearily, squinted her eyes against the bright light, and saw that it was Adderdream, the deputy of the Tribe. His glossy super-dark brown pelt was slick with morning dew. Even though that Omenstar wanted to sleep, she knew that she had to get up. Grunting, she heaved herself onto her paws.
"Omenstar, are you alright? It looks like if you didn't sleep for a moon!" Adderdream exclaimed.
Omenstar didn't have the energy to argue. Instead, she dipped her head, and whispered, "I'll groom my fur later. Thanks for worrying about me." she brushed past Adderdream and went out into the crisp, morning air. As she pushed past the bramble barrier, the sweet scent of prey flooded her mouth, along with the musty smell of the forest. Omenstar headed for the lake. She shivered as she neared the shore, the vision growing more vivid in her mind. She expected the lake to suddenly leap up and swallow her, but the waves just peacefully rocked back and forth on the beach. Omenstar padded over to the waves and took a sip of freshwater. How could water hurt us? Omenstar raised her head and gazed at the point where the lake met the sky. She thought that she heard the faint roar of the tsunami in her ears, but the roar quickly faded. Omenstar turned around and walked slowly towards the camp.
Once she entered the camp, she heard Adderdream assigning patrols. "Blazebranch! Take Quillpaw, Ambercloud, Birdwish, Ashwatcher and Pinepaw for a border patrol! Make sure those annoying kittypet furballs don't set paw in our territory!"
"Yes, Adderdream!" all the cats answered.
Without saying anything, Omenstar padded over to the fresh-kill pile and chose a mouse. She carried it to her den and settled down in her nest. Omenstar put her chin on the edge of her nest and closed her eyes. Why do I always get so bad visions?
