Chapter 29. Fever (P2)

"Kisha...? If you don't stop, you'll turn, right?"

An eerie silence follows as Kisha holds strong to his silent tongue, but his lungs come alive as a rising guttural growl catches Crescent off guard. He flinches. Crescent turns his head facing the noise head-on, confusion filling his marbled eyes as he focuses on the foreignness of the hostility and how cold the atmosphere became. The once-loving feeling he had felt moments ago now feels like a stranger. The caring facade that enchanted him—was he ignoring the signs that a beast had been brewing?

Worry begins to pool itself inside of Crescent's chest as the vibrations are more animal than human and he isn't sure what he'd do if he's suddenly face to face with Kisha's true identity. Is there something he had done wrong?

Crescent couldn't help but feel the weight of Kisha's intense gaze. What he originally considered a soulless enjoyment now seemed far more complex. Kisha's eyes, sharp and predatory, resemble those of a watchful cat or dog, completely focused and balanced before its prey. Crescent understands that Fuchsia's right; he doesn't possess the calming pheromones to ease Kisha. As Kisha's icy blue eyes remain locked onto him, waiting for a sign to continue, Crescent feels a mix of dread and understanding—aware that Kisha's searching for something deeper, something to feed on.

What makes this time different? A switch of aggression that had never turned towards him in any encounter and Crescent isn't sure he's ready to see it. A stranger's image ripples through Kisha, not only for Crescent but whatever Kisha is right now doesn't recognize him at all.

Kisha's growling picks up in sound, warning Crescent, but pinned beneath Kisha he can't move and he finds himself helpless. He doesn't know what he wants. What are these growls telling him? Strength unable to even shift a hair sit and watch anticipated danger as Crescent deflates mentally. Ready to escape this nightmare, his broken tone comes out suddenly and small.

"K-K-Kisha! It's me... Crescent." He hopes to make Kisha understand that he's familiar before the beating pain in his chest sends his fight or flight over the hill. He's important as everyone says. He matters to Kisha whether they like it or not, so what is happening?

He believes if he can take his attention, maybe a moment of realization will emerge, and an opening will brew, but Kisha's reaction stays the same until his mouth abruptly parts, teeth bared he approaches Crescent's neck slowly. Crescent's heartbeat quickens, nudging him to respond with urgency, knowing that the events about to unfold could change everything.

"What the fuck are you doing?!"

The only thing he can think of is his leg, heavily drawing it up, and wedging it between their frames. Crescent squirms upward, but a firm clawed grip running through his hair forces him to halt. Individual razored objects, digging into his scalp effortlessly send a chill down his spine and he suddenly freezes as his heart plummets into his stomach. Thoughts of dying play inside of his mind and his voice again picks up in tone,

"Kisha!" Crescent demands, his bottom lip quivering as he clamps down to kill the emotions ready to burst from his lungs; hands placed on Kisha's chest he presses with all he has.

"Stop! J-Just stop this shit! You're going too far--"

Kisha yanks Crescent by the hair to snatch him to one side. As Crescent's face slams into the softness of the comforter, he can't help but feel a sharp jolt of pain shoot through his neck and shoulders. Kisha lifts himself a bit on his knees, clawed fingers scratching at Crescent's frame before an aggressive grip is placed on his thigh.

Before Crescent can understand what's happening, his body is being twisted. While his legs go first, he puts some resistance on his torso. No. He can't let this happen. Crescent refuses, pulling his frame back and planting his weight as much as he can as he tries to wiggle his leg from the numbing hold. The words Fuchsia told him before leaving the elevator pours into his mind.

These broken feelings flood Crescent's judgment and he begins to panic, shaking his head rapidly in denial. Kisha can't rape him, right?

"Kisha?! Fuck... fuuuuck..." He screams, his voice reaching a piercing high pitch of fear laced with tension and irritation. "Y-You hurt me, and I'll never forgive you! I swear--"

Crescent's voice catches in his throat, almost choking him into a coughing fit. Betrayal at the cost of carelessness. He swallows the lump to contain the feelings of disloyalty, but the damage is doing its job. He can't seem to find the proper words, forcing Kisha into his falling world.

"I'll never-- never forgive you! I'll hate you, I'll run away from you! Why can't you understand that?!" Crescent pauses. "I'm fucking scared!"

Those golden hues full of tears blinded his sight, causing Kisha's image to distort; hand brought up to clutch Kisha's wolf ear and yank hard as a means to get Kisha away. Crescent needs Kisha to focus on something else. Maybe if he hurts him, it will be enough to deter the animal. Don't be prey that gives up runs through his mind. Kisha tucks his head slightly, wincing, but there's no sign of responding, no sign of getting through by the sudden rigid feel in his muscles. Crescent chuffs, using the last bit of strength he can muster up.

"You stupid fucker! I trusted you!"

What is he saying? He hasn't known Kisha that long to even have these sorts of conversations, so what's coming from his lips now? Crescent believed after hearing about being Kisha's mate that maybe this was his happily ever after. His entire life crumbled like those princesses. Since he was a child, he never had any chance of getting better. Was it all a tragic facade that would soon leave him in pain? What a fucking joke of an existence.

Those warnings about the Fever. This is all his fault. Crescent should've listened. He may have to fight Kisha, no matter the consequences. It wouldn't be smart to piss him off, but nothing matters more than his survival right now. If Crescent had a say so in the way he died, it would not be today.

Readying himself to throw his first punch, Crescent raises his hand, balling up his fist. To the throat. Nothing can withstand a blow to the windpipe.

The sudden burst of the door opening takes Crescent by surprise, and he tries to look over, but he is limited in view. A sense of relief that someone else is in the room washes over him, but the panic within his stomach ramps up that maybe someone in the room might be a mistake rather than a blessing.

Fuchsia ran in, followed by Ahni.

They're frantic, but his attention and shot at salvation are short-lived-- Kisha releases a deep bellowing growl seconds later. The entire room feels like a chamber stuck inside a rattle from the power. Fuchsia halts in mid-stride, looking at Kisha with a submissive gaze. His once worried look washes away until replaced by the sudden flicker of his status in the pack. Fuchsia can't take a step further.

That is not a command.

It's a warning.

He looks away in pain, shattered enough to force him to back down, but with the little knowledge he has within he tries to fight instinct. His body vibrates with crippling fear, as his knees buckle and his fingertips shake. A whine from clamped lips pushes through his nose when all the air is released desperately for Kisha to hear. His wolf is trying to let Kisha know he isn't going to disobey him, but the human inside of Fuchsia's heart pounds against a locked cage and he knows he must do something. Scurry! Hurry! The words foretell Fuchsia of the danger he's in, the wolf trying to communicate with everyone as it's stirring for him to flee. At times when Kisha is at his most aggressive, it is wise to leave him alone; everyone knows that.

Kisha's never wanted to protect anyone as much as he did Crescent. Protecting Saikai is his job which doesn't require much emotion. This growl? Do not dare take what is mine. The Alpha fails to realize that he's been the one harming.

All these times, they repeatedly took Crescent away and kept Crescent in the dark. So this is their fault too. Is it a wrong choice? Fuchsia's guilty.

Denying such a thing from his leader isn't engraved in his blood. He's accepted Kisha as someone who will guide him through his years and now, he has to choose whether to follow his human heart or his real self. Allowing it to happen will mean a life of struggle for Crescent-- a world full of loneliness and sadness for Kisha that inevitably also leads to death.

Can Fuchsia live knowing he did nothing?

"Fuchsia..."

The soft cries of a defenseless young human draw him from his mind. His distorted features all turn until his fuchsia-colored eyes settle upon the image of Crescent at the mercy of a ferocious animal in the disguise of a human. If he's to look at it from this perspective, then Crescent is innocent.

"Please... Get him off of me!" Crescent squirms beneath Kisha.

Not only will he be forced to watch Kisha kill his mate, but he'd also know he let Crescent down and... Ahni

Ahni runs past him, Fuchsia's eyes traveling along with him, a bump knocks Fuchsia into a step forward. He watches as Ahni falls to the bedside to get closer to the action. Furrowed brows unsure what to make of all of this, but the rough play isn't Ahni's thing. With his bother lying ninety-nine percent naked and Kisha only seventy percent, he only suspects that they are in the middle of something steamy. Locklear has taken his role pretty seriously with the moving wolf tail and set of wolf ears. They are roleplaying, aren't they? He isn't affected by the growl or Kisha's weirdly distinct look. To each their own. He only worries about his brother, who seems to be the most disturbed. Whatever it is, Crescent's acting is superb.

"Locklear!! You have to stop! Listen to Crescent." Ahni taps at the bed. "My brother is such a dick. He will fight you over the most pettiest things 'cause he doesn't get his way. And right now, you're the least bit sexy. Come on... What are you trying to prove?" Ahni tries to be a mediator, more so leaning on his brother's side. Did Kisha want to stick it in the wrong hole or something-- wait... There's only one. So then, why would they be fighting? Ahni sits confused, looking towards the amount of hair Kisha had locked in his hand. He's certain some strands will fall out tomorrow. Sucking his teeth and shaking his head,

"You're going to cause a bald spot if you pull too hard. Messing up Crescent's hair too? Man, you're messin' up big time..."

"W-w-w-what?!" Crescent spits towards Ahni, not understanding how his brother can be so stupid in the face of danger. "This isn't a fucking game Ahni!!!!"

The realization of someone being so close to him forces Kisha to whip his attention towards Ahni. His ears go straight up, hand swiftly lashes out to grab Ahni by the collar. The sound of his palm colliding with Ahni's collarbone thump. He yanks Ahni forward, his lips pull back exposing every tooth. The fierce beast beneath human skin bears all its seriousness. Locking  Ahni in a swirl of confusion.

A second warning.

Crescent grabs Kisha's arm in response to save his brother just in case he is going to lash out at Ahni,

"Ahni you are a fucking idiot! An idiot! Read the room!!" But Crescent's too weak as in an instant he saw Ahni tossed. Ahni lands on Saikai's bed on his back before his large frame tumbles backward, momentum bouncing on his shoulder and rolling until he meets the floor.

The back of his head hits the rolling leg of Saikai's desk chair, Ahni rolls over and clamps down hard on the aching spot.

Fuchsia reacts, trying to close the gap between them before anything else can happen but again he freezes as his sight fills with Kisha readying himself to lash out at any moment.

"Kisha... You don't want to hurt him." Fuchsia takes a deep breath, whispering. 'You big belligerent idiot! He's everything to you.'

There has to be a way. Being so new to this, the amount of restraint it will take not to hurt Crescent, Fuchsia knows it will be a lot. He just hopes Kisha has it in him.

"Whatever it is you're feeling, you're worried about letting go, Boss Kisha. I know affection isn't your strong suit, nor is care and patience. With your broken vulnerability, you are allowing him to protect you instead of actually listening to your heart. Crescent has your guard down... you're not used to it. But that's what it means to have a mate... Boss."

Fuchsia looks over his shoulder,

"Ahni, give me the taser. Are you alright over there?"

Ahni climbs up the bed, blowing a clump of messed-up hair from his face.

"Just... Peachy..." Pulling the taser from his pocket and handing it to Fuchsia's outstretched arm.

"I mean barely. Locklear is so strong! Fuchsia... what can we do?" Ahni hesitates.

"It's alright. This is our world. Like I explained to you. Ok, Ahni?"

Ahni nods. Their world. Before this had happened, Fuchsia came for Ahni. He told him whatever it was that he saw, he was to not judge too harshly. Ahni agreed. The two then discussed a little about the world Fuchsia and Kisha live in. Ahni was baffled to find out, scared even a little for Crescent, but his fear turned into admiration. This is why Locklear is so cool.

"On the count of three--" The last thing Fuchsia can say before the air at his feet abruptly goes cold. A strong shudder creeps at his back and Fuchsia's expression races into horror.

Fuchsia falls to his knees, dropping his head against the floor, covering the back of his head with his hands. His eyes look straight into the ground as his pupil nearly dilates to cover his entire iris. To control large crowds and unruly pack members, Kisha rarely needs to use one of his strongest abilities. Fuchsia only suspects it's doing this because Ahni's in the room.

Kisha needs to stop Ahni. Kisha's fixated gaze bounces between the brothers before settling back to Crescent. Stuck without a means of defense, he's willing to throw a harder punch before they all become slices of deli meat.

Kisha's pheromones.

Now filling the entire room at a slow pace, but the fog is like thick air, and Fuchsia can only see its suffocating disgust. The oxygen in the room is being controlled, as every inhale becomes harder to take due to the bitter cold that burns the lungs. Fuchsia and the other gang members hate this feeling. The looming death and warranted need to commit suicide just to stop the feeling of being controlled, stalked, and tormented by an alpha that wants nothing but an insane amount of misery.

A monster invading their minds scares them and makes them remember the only person they are tools to. Their God on this earth has total control over everything they do with just a wave of his finger.

Sinister, frigid, he's truly horrifying. They are all aware of Kisha's authority. If not a wolf then it will be harder to understand just how dark these animals can be. Fuchsia can do nothing but submit and hope for the best.

His mind flashes to images of his death, committed torture by a wolf in black with glowing ice blue eyes. He can feel every desire that Kisha has to hurt him if he continues to disobey. What is life for an unruly wolf? Removal from a pack by death. That strong, passive attitude he admires from his boss, is suddenly forgotten. Human Kisha is so much better.

"Ahni..." It's hard for Fuchsia to utter a word, voice trapped in his throat comes out like a pained screech. "Stop him before he hurts your brother!"

Ahni's handling the pheromones pretty well for some reason. Just like in the park that day, he never reacted to them. This is partially due to his personality. The more fear a human has towards a certain individual, the better the pheromones control. But Ahni cherishes Kisha...

"How?!"

"Grab his attention!"

Attention? Attention...? Ahni looks around the room quickly, spotting some pillows at the head of the bed. Attention...! He doesn't want to hurt Locklear by hitting him with anything and he isn't brave enough to stick a taser in his neck as Fuchsia planned on doing. He pulls himself to grab one, climbing onto Saikai's bed and leaping over to Kisha's, landing on Kisha's back.

"I'm so-so-so sorry Locklear, but you're taking this sex scene a little too far don't you think?!"

Ahni places the pillow between Crescent's and Kisha's faces, musters every bit of strength he can find, and pulls upward, picking Kisha up with him. He hopes in the process he doesn't break Kisha's back or his neck, but that soon becomes a possibility because the bed is too soft and Ahni loses a bit of footing, suddenly sitting on top of Kisha as he bends him in a position that no human is able to bend.

"O-O-Oh my... Sorry!!!!"

The frigid air turns stale, and Crescent seizes the opportunity, pushing from beneath Kisha, he falls off the bed, crawling towards the desk behind him.

His heart's racing, a hand placed at his center chest, a throbbing ache pulsing through him.

Fuchsia weakly pushes himself to his hands and knees, shaking his head as he coughs to inhale the now returning heat. Fuchsia believes in the unbreakable bond between mates. As a being who actively seeks it, he can't bear to see such anguish written on Crescent's face. He knows they are bound to jump hurdles because of Kisha's mysteriousness, but Fuchsia wants to be that person who tells Crescent whatever he needs to know. Keeping such an idiot in the dark about the wolves' lifestyle is brewing ignorance and ignorance is Crescent's best friend.

The risk of death during fever week is high only amongst inexperienced wolves. This is a bit different because it involves a wolf and a human. Oftentimes females struggle with wounds. If the female is stronger in personality both mates after a long night of tearing into each other look pitiful the next day, but all it takes is some food and sleep to heal the wounds. Kisha is one of the inexperienced wolves, never fully embracing both his sexual preferences and his darkness or finding ways to fight it. He doesn't know the ways to convey his wants and that often leaves his wolf to decipher human emotions. Kisha forces his wolf into a corner and the only way it knows to protect him is to aggressively get rid of the thing that's hurting him.

This relationship spells disaster, but with patience and time, Fuchsia believes these two can become each other's strength. They both share opposite qualities and they can learn to live as one. Maybe... just maybe when all of them are old and grey, Kisha will finally know how to be a human; how to treat a human and he will smile one day. That is Fuchsia's dream.

Over the years Kisha allowed darkness to consume him, which in turn changed his personality. At least that's what Saikai always told them when Kisha wasn't around.

Kisha doesn't like to lead and, rather be alone, but the alpha inside of him plagues him, forcing him to take in submissive males. Become their leader. Some of the others are even older than Kisha.

In the cold, dark world of this wild, humans can not fathom law and order over freedom and will.

"Crescent, focus!" Fuchsia huffs. It's hard to gain balance after enduring pheromones.

Kisha reaches to his face, clamping down on the pillow. He rips it from Ahni's grip before tossing it, nails slicing into an object as feathers fly everywhere. His attention then turns toward the burning in his lower back. Kisha reaches behind himself and grabs hold of Ahni's upper arm before effortlessly tossing him to the side again. This time Ahni goes flailing into Fuchsia, who takes the force head-on. Stomach meeting back. The two collide, sliding until a nearby wall stops them both.

"Oww!" Ahni cries. He looks towards Fuchsia in concern he's crushed beneath him, but Fuchsia only nods back, hand rubbing his head.

"Yeah... I'm fine. You big ass boulder!" Fuchsia whines.

"What?! Why are you mad at me?! Blame Locklear!! He keeps throwing meeee!"

"Get out..." A soft grumble draws everyone's attention towards Kisha who bows his head into the bed, clawed hands tearing whatever he grasps. His voice is faint, unstable, and unable to reach over a breathless hush, but he's struggling and it's clear something is straining him. His movements are more aggressive, his muscles contorting as he cringes, his eyes rolling inside of his head.

A curl of his frame sends him on his side as he huffs heavily, holding wrapped arms around his stomach. What is he doing? Hurting anyone like this? Before he knew it, he couldn't think straight anymore and the beast inside of him wanted out more than he allowed it. His slender digits only vibrate and cringe, trying to hold on to something within his mind before his thoughts dive deep. He feels everything. The haven of being inside of Crescent's warmth. What it's like to fall into a world of no worry and die proudly. Letting go of all of his guard as he for once didn't have to defend himself. Inviting a touch that's all he wants for the rest of his life. What it's like being a kid again; happy, not empty anymore.

He growls in an attempt to control himself. Consequences Kisha learned as a child. Depression, anger, and loss made him give up, didn't mean the wolf ever begged to differ.

"Ahni, take Crescent." Fuchsia pushes Ahni away, climbing to his feet. No time for babysitting wounds.

"This is our only chance. Boss is doing something nearly impossible to do. So, let's save him too, ok? For Crescent."

"Saving... Locklear? The ultimate hero?" Ahni looks at Crescent who has yet to move. He watches Crescent's lost fear-driven face looking to Kisha in shock. 'For Crescent...' Something Ahni always desires to say he did.

Fuchsia only nods. He stumbles towards Crescent, grabbing his arms and tugging him to stand. Crescent complies with ease, but Fuchsia knows he needs to calm his human heart.

"Crescent, he's the same person..." Fuchsia recites in worry, which brings a teary-eyed gaze from Crescent.

"That's not a person, asshole..." Still, with fire in his veins, Crescent spit held in anger. How can anyone sit and say what they are looking at is anything but a monster? He wants nothing more than to make Kisha suffer for the pain he has put him through. How dare he lay such hands on him and do those things?! If he catches him in the hall one day he's going to punch the shit out of him. The pain swelling within his chest. Crescent isn't some sort of bitch that deserves to be manhandled like this. Crescent shoves Fuchsia away, falling over his foot before scrambling to his feet.

"Barging your way into a world you know nothing about will cause you grief. You're ignorant and everyone must clean up your mess! This isn't the fairytale you often read about Crescent. This is the raw reality of the animal kingdom and Kisha-- is a damaged individual. If you're not careful with the course you're taking, you'll only be his downfall. We wolves do not follow your laws, especially Boss Kisha!" Fuchsia sighs to Crescent as Crescent's leaving, cutting him with a side eye.

Ahni follows behind, hurt, but in one piece.

The two make it down the hall, before Ahni grabs his brother's shoulder, spinning him around.

"Hey! Why didn't you tell me?! Fuchsia told me everything! Where's Ralp?! Why is Diamond after you?! Where is this Saikai person?! Why is Asho after you?! Why are you in just your underwear?! And why didn't you tell me what Locklear is?!"

The questions fly through Crescent's mind at high speed, but he's unable to make sense of them all because he's mindlessly focused on the scene that just unfolded. Heart can't calm. Ahni's lips seem as if they are moving a mile a minute. Looking away from Ahni, he starts walking again, but Ahni doesn't let him go far. He grabs him, this time holding onto his arm.

"Crescent White, answer me!! This isn't a joke, is it? This abuse... do you take it often from Locklear? I-I know he isn't a welcoming person, but he shouldn't be putting his hands on you! You owe me an explanation! Why put up with this?!"

"Shut up-- Ahni, just stay out of it. This is between me and him."

"You bring me into it by hiding things from me! So, just tell me! I'm not a kid anymore! I can handle myself! Locklear, it's not right. That day you came back ruffed up-- was that him too? Is he really forcing you into sex?"

"You'll never understand, Ahni." Crescent keeps a slow stride, maintaining his mind void of anything right now. He's numb and Ahni's getting on his nerves. All of his emotions fizzle out and the shock keeps a calm effect on him, but the tears and sweat staining his face make the light from the hall shine upon his skin. A stray path of blood, drying, runs a course to his jaw from the top of his head. Dealing with Ahni's sufferable high screams does nothing but hurt his ears.

"I knew enough!! Enough to know that we suffered on those streets and you remained silent like the coward you are! You didn't tell me. You're always hiding things and acting tough! I'm bigger than you... Stronger... I was hungry, sick, and cold! Because of you! I was so unhappy! Because of you!" Ahni stops his feet, rattling the hall dead silence with a sea of hatred and Crescent soaks it up as a mop.

Crescent frowns, inhaling the energy into his lungs. Huh? Even Ahni feels a saddening way towards him?

"The fuck are you telling me this for?! I don't care!"

"Because even though I said I loved you every night." Ahni keeps his verbal attack going. "I hated you when I woke up. Just like now, you're selfish--" Ahni ceases by the sudden left swing of his brother's soft slap against his cheek. His head falls to one side and the two sit a few seconds before Crescent's swelling, tear-filled eyes start to drain slowly.

"I said I don't care... What part of that don't you understand? If you are as big and strong as you claim to be then why are you a fucking leech?!" Crescent's voice trails, arms tightening at his bare chest he turns and walks away.

A leech?

Love, he questions it to Crescent thinking he is incompetent.

Ahni balls up his fists, standing frozen. He can hear Crescent's small pitter-patter and sniffles until he's left alone, beneath the stale hall and eerie hush.

(((A/N

Crescent's quick to dive off the deep end. Impulsive much? While Kisha is only doing what comes naturally

Who is to blame?
