Chapter - 6

As Anamika entered her hotel room, the weight of the day pressing heavily on her, she turned to her assistant with a tired smile. "Please, don't disturb me for the rest of the evening. I just need some time to rest."

Her assistant nodded, concern flickering in their eyes. "Of course, ma'am. Let me know if you need anything."

With that, Anamika closed the door, shutting out the world. The silence of the room enveloped her as she sank onto the bed, her body weary, but her mind spinning with thoughts and emotions. She stared up at the ceiling, feeling the emptiness in her chest grow. The vast loneliness she had been avoiding all day now settled in around her, making her feel small and isolated.

I’m all alone now, she thought, her heart sinking further. The love she had once cherished now felt like a distant memory, replaced by uncertainty and pain.

She closed her eyes, thinking of what awaited her when she returned to Bangalore. Her in-laws, who once were hesitant about accepting her, now treated her with immense love and respect. They had become her family over time, and she knew they would be there for her. But even that didn’t soothe the ache in her heart. No matter how much they cared, the void left by Vineet was something no one could fill.

As her thoughts wandered to her in-laws, her mind pulled her back into another memory, one that filled her with both warmth and longing. She remembered the time she had gone away for a few days on a work trip, just like this one. When she returned home, tired and eager to rest, she had found Vineet waiting for her with a smile that melted all her fatigue away.

She could see it clearly now—the way he stood by the door, arms crossed, a playful grin on his face. "I missed you," he had said as soon as she stepped inside. Before she could even set her bags down, he had pulled her into his arms, holding her close as if he never wanted to let go.

"How was your trip?" he had asked, his voice soft against her ear.

"Exhausting," she had replied, her face pressed into his chest, feeling the steady beat of his heart. "But this makes it worth it."

Vineet had laughed gently, kissing the top of her head. "Well, you're home now. And I’ve been waiting all day just to do this." He had cupped her face in his hands, his eyes filled with the love and tenderness that always made her feel like the most important person in the world. Then, without hesitation, he had kissed her deeply, filling the gap of the days they’d been apart with all the affection he could muster.

In that moment, she had felt complete. Loved. Secure. Like nothing could come between them.

But now, lying on the hotel bed, the memory felt bittersweet. She could still feel the ghost of his touch, the warmth of his embrace, but the reality was far different. The man who had once promised her forever seemed to have moved on, leaving her adrift in the storm of her emotions.

Her heart ached as she clutched the pillow beside her, trying to hold onto the memory even though it slipped through her fingers like sand. Why did it have to change? she thought, the tears brimming once again.

The hotel room felt colder, more distant, as if reflecting the emptiness in her life now. Anamika knew she had to be strong—she had her work, her responsibilities, and her family waiting for her. But for now, as the night descended, she allowed herself to fall apart in the quiet, holding onto memories of a time when Vineet’s love had been all she needed.

He had leaned in, capturing her lips in a kiss that had washed away all the fatigue, all the stress of her trip. That kiss had been filled with the same promise he had always given her—that no matter where life took them, she would always be his home.

Now, sitting alone in her hotel room, the memory of that kiss felt like a distant dream. Anamika could still remember the way his hands had gently cradled her face, how his touch had always reassured her of his love. But those days were gone, replaced by a painful reality she never saw coming.

She stood up, walking to the window and staring out at the city lights. The hustle and bustle of Delhi continued, indifferent to her heartache. She placed her hand against the cool glass, her reflection staring back at her with red, swollen eyes.

“I don’t know how to let go,” she whispered to herself. The love she had shared with Vineet had been her anchor for so long, but now she felt adrift, unsure of who she was without it.

Her phone buzzed on the nightstand, pulling her attention away from the window. For a moment, her heart leapt with hope—maybe it was Vineet, maybe he had realized his mistake and was reaching out to apologize, to fix everything. But when she looked at the screen, it was just a message from her assistant, reminding her of tomorrow’s schedule.

With a sigh, she turned the phone face down, her hope fading once again. She knew she couldn’t keep waiting for him, couldn’t keep clinging to a love that no longer existed. She had to find a way to move on, to rebuild herself without Vineet. But how?

As she stood there, feeling the weight of her emotions, one thought began to solidify in her mind. She couldn’t stay in this limbo any longer. She needed to confront him, to face the truth head-on. Whether it brought closure or more pain, she couldn’t keep running from the reality of their situation. It was time to have that difficult conversation with Vineet, to demand answers and to finally understand what had led to the destruction of the love they once shared.

But tonight, she allowed herself to grieve, to feel the loss of the man who had once made her world feel whole. She crawled into bed, pulling the covers up around her, and let the tears fall freely, knowing that in the morning, she would need to summon all her strength to face what lay ahead.

As soon as she hears a knock on the door, her pulse quickens. Setting aside the emotions bubbling inside her after the revelation, she takes a deep breath and walks toward the door. Opening it, her eyes widen, then narrow in irritation. Standing there, with a smug smile, is Ashok—Vineet’s brother.

A surge of anger courses through her as she clenches her fists. Ashok had been relentless since the moment she landed in Delhi, insisting that she stay at his place, hounding her with offers of “help” that were anything but genuine. The sight of him now, on her doorstep, feels like an intrusion, an embodiment of everything Vineet has put her through. It doesn’t take long for the realization to hit her— he knows everything about it, about the situation and he must have called her earlier because of this only, yes, he did all this with purpose.

Her anger sharpens, no longer just at Vineet, but at Ashok too, and for the situation that continues to spiral further out of her control but before she can say anything, Ashok speaks up.

"Please, hear me out," he says quickly, noticing her irritation. "I know you don’t want to see me right now, but this is important." He spoke, his eyes falling on the paper lying on the table, the same newspaper with Vineet's news and he knows, she knows it all now.

She folds her arms, glaring at him, but doesn’t shut the door. Ashok takes that as his chance to continue.

"Vineet… He’s making a huge mistake," Ashok says, his voice low, almost pleading. "The girl he’s chasing after doesn’t even love him. She doesn't care about him the way you do. She… she doesn’t even like him, in fact she hates him."

His words catch her off guard. For a moment, her anger falters, replaced by confusion and a twinge of something she can’t quite place. Ashok steps closer, lowering his voice even more.

"You have to talk to him. He’ll listen to you. If anyone can convince him to come back, it’s you," he urges, his eyes searching hers for some sign of understanding. "This whole thing… it’s going to end badly for him if he keeps going down this road."

She feels torn. The anger that had been burning inside her just moments ago still simmers beneath the surface, but now, with Ashok’s words, there's a new complexity to the situation.

Ashok takes a deep breath, clearly hesitant, but then he says the words that hit her like a punch to the gut.

"The girl Vineet’s in love with... she’s already married."

Anamika’s eyes widen, her breath catching in her throat. "What?" she whispers, disbelief washing over her.

"She’s married," Ashok repeats, his voice heavy with frustration. "But Vineet won’t accept it. He keeps telling himself it’s complicated, that she’s unhappy or something, but the truth is, she’s not leaving her husband for him. She doesn’t want to."

Anamika’s mind races, trying to process what she’s hearing. She feels a wave of conflicting emotions—anger, confusion, and what not. The guy doesn't care about his wedded wife and is behind someone else wife's who hates him, wow!! What else Delhi has store for her?

Ashok steps closer, desperation creeping into his voice. "You have to make him see sense, Anamika. He’s not listening to anyone. He’s throwing his life away for someone who’s never going to love him back. You’re the only person who can get through to him."

Anamika stands there, her hands clenched into fists, unsure of what to say.
