Chapter - 17
The next morning, Anamika woke up early, feeling a mix of anticipation and exhaustion. She prepared herself for the long journey ahead, dressed in a professional yet comfortable outfit, and headed downstairs. Shakshi insisted on serving her breakfast before she left.
"Eat something properly, beta. Don’t skip meals during your trip," Shakshi said, placing a plate of toast and fruit in front of her.
Anamika smiled, grateful for the care. "I will, Ma. Thank you."
After a light breakfast, Aarnav helped her load her luggage into the car. "Call us once you land," he reminded her as they hugged goodbye. With one last reassuring nod, Anamika got into the car and left for the airport.
---
By evening, she landed in Singapore. The city's skyline shimmered in the twilight, but she had little time to admire it. A car awaited her at the airport, arranged by the company hosting the meeting. She arrived at the corporate office, where she was greeted by executives eager to discuss the project.
The meeting lasted for hours, with presentations, discussions, and negotiations. Anamika, despite feeling physically tired, maintained her composure and professionalism, impressing everyone with her clarity and insights.
After the meeting concluded, one of the executives approached her. "Ms. Anamika, I must say, your reputation precedes you. It’s rare to see someone handle such a complex project with such grace."
"Thank you," she replied politely, feeling a sense of pride in her work. Despite the challenges, moments like these reminded her why she pushed herself so hard.
As she stepped out of the building, the cool breeze brushed against her face. Anamika took a deep breath, momentarily allowing herself to relax. The deal was on track, and her hard work was paying off. Yet, somewhere in the back of her mind, thoughts of Vineet lingered. She shook them off and focused on the present.
"One step at a time," she whispered to herself.
As Anamika checked out of the office and headed to the airport, she received an unexpected notification—her flight back to Bangalore had been canceled due to bad weather. The airline staff offered her a complimentary stay at a nearby luxury hotel, apologizing for the inconvenience.
At first, Anamika felt slightly frustrated. She was eager to return home and resume her work. However, as she settled into her lavish hotel room and gazed out at the dazzling city lights, she realized this might be the perfect chance for a much-needed break.
---
The next morning, after a restful sleep, she decided to make the best of her extended stay. She explored the vibrant streets of Singapore, visiting iconic landmarks like Marina Bay Sands and Gardens by the Bay. The bustling atmosphere, the rich culture, and the mouthwatering cuisine brought a rare smile to her face.
She even treated herself to a luxurious spa session, something she hadn’t done in months. The relaxation helped ease the tension that had built up over the past few weeks. For the first time in a while, she felt light-hearted, as though she could breathe freely without the weight of her past.
---
On her second day, she strolled along the Singapore River, enjoying the scenic beauty. As she sat at a riverside café sipping freshly brewed coffee, she reflected on how important it was to occasionally pause and find joy in life. Though she missed home and her unborn child’s well-being was always on her mind, these two days gave her a sense of peace she hadn’t felt in a long time.
That evening, she returned to her hotel room, packed her bags, and prepared for her rescheduled flight. "This break was unplanned, but maybe it’s exactly what I needed," she thought, feeling recharged and ready to move forward.
With that thought, she drifted into a peaceful sleep, ready to face whatever awaited her back home.
The morning of her return, Anamika woke up early, feeling refreshed yet eager to be back home. After a light breakfast, she checked out of the hotel and headed to the airport. As she boarded the flight, she found herself gazing out of the window, the memories of the past few days in Singapore making her realize how much she had missed moments of peace and joy.
---
During the flight, her thoughts wandered. She remembered the calm she felt while walking by the river, the joy of savoring different cuisines, and the feeling of letting go for just a little while. But soon, her mind drifted back to Bangalore, to her in-laws who must be waiting eagerly, and to the responsibilities that awaited her.
As the plane soared through the clouds, Anamika placed a hand on her belly and whispered softly, "We’re going home, little one. It’s time to face life head-on again."
---
Upon landing in Bangalore, she was warmly greeted by her driver at the airport. The familiar surroundings brought a sense of comfort. As the car made its way through the bustling city streets, she felt a renewed sense of purpose. Though her heart still carried scars from recent events, she was determined to focus on her work, her family, and above all, her child.
When she arrived home, her mother-in-law, Shakshi, welcomed her with open arms. "You must be tired. Come, sit down. I’ll get you something to eat," Shakshi said warmly.
Anamika smiled faintly. "I’m fine, Ma. Just glad to be back."
Later that evening, as she sat in her room unpacking, she realized that the break in Singapore had given her something she hadn’t expected—clarity. She knew the journey ahead wouldn’t be easy, but she was ready to take it one step at a time.
......
The next morning, Anamika sat in her study, reviewing some documents when a message popped up on her phone. It was from Raman, detailing the party he was hosting for his daughter Roohi’s birthday and the inauguration of their project. The event was scheduled after a couple of months at a luxurious venue in Delhi.
Anamika read the message carefully, contemplating for a moment before deciding she should attend. She wanted to witness the beginning of the project she had worked so hard for. Besides, it would give her a chance to unwind and socialize a little. With her decision made, she walked into the living room where her in-laws were sitting.
"Ma, Papa," she began, "I’ve been invited to a party. It’s Roohi’s birthday, and they’re also inaugurating a project I’ve been working on."
Her mother-in-law, Shakshi, looked a bit concerned. "Party? Are you sure, Anamika? You’re pregnant. You need rest."
Anamika smiled reassuringly. "It’s just a few hours, Ma. I’ll be careful. And I promise I won’t overexert myself. Above that party mei abhi time hai, it's after a couple of months." Anamika asserts excitedly.
Shakshi and Aarnav exchange glances, they were glad to see her excited about the project and so decided to let her live the moment.
"Two months is a good amount of time to prepare," Shakshi said with a warm smile. "But promise me, you’ll take care of yourself, beta. No overexertion."
Anamika nodded, understanding her mother-in-law's concern. "I’ll be fine, Maa. And I think this event will be a great opportunity for our company as well. It’s not just a celebration, but a significant milestone."
Aarnav added, “And it will be a well-deserved break for you. We’ll manage everything here, don’t worry.” Aarnav assures to which she smiles.
As days turned into weeks, Anamika focused on her work and her well-being. Her bond with her in-laws grew even stronger. She was grateful for their unwavering support, and it motivated her to keep moving forward.
When the two-month mark approached, preparations for her trip to Delhi began. Anamika had meticulously planned everything, ensuring she balanced her professional commitments and personal health. She often found herself thinking about how the event would unfold, aware that it might bring her face-to-face with Vineet again.
Despite the uncertainty, she felt ready. This time, she promised herself, she wouldn’t let her emotions overpower her resolve.
.....
Anamika prepared for her trip to Delhi with a mix of anticipation and a hint of nervousness. As her pregnancy was now slightly visible, Shakshi lovingly expressed her concern.
"Beta, I know you’re careful, but please remember to rest when needed. And don’t skip meals," Shakshi said, adjusting the scarf Anamika had draped over her shoulder to help conceal her growing baby bump.
Anamika smiled reassuringly. "I promise, Maa. Everything will be fine. It’s only for a few days, and I’ll be back before you know it."
After a heartfelt goodbye, she boarded the flight to Delhi. Sitting on her seat, her mind kept drifting back to the events that unfolded after her encounter with Vineet. The kiss, the tension between them—it all seemed so complicated now. But she knew she couldn’t dwell on the past, not when the future held so much promise for her and the project.
The plane ride to Delhi was uneventful, but the closer she got, the more her emotions started to bubble up. The party and the inauguration event would be her chance to showcase her company’s success and establish herself further in the industry. However, the thought of seeing Vineet again, and the raw emotions that might resurface, made her uneasy.
As she landed in Delhi, she could feel the weight of her past decisions pressing down on her. Would she be able to stay composed? Would she encounter Vineet again? Her thoughts swirled as she gathered her belongings and made her way out. She knew she was walking into a whirlwind, but she wasn’t going to back down. She was here to take control of her life, no matter the cost.
.....
As she moves out of the Airport, Anamika was surprised to see Raman waiting for her at the arrival gate, accompanied by his wife, Ishita.
Raman greeted her warmly. "Welcome to Delhi, Anamika! We couldn’t let you arrive without a proper welcome."
Ishita smiled and added, "Raman insisted we come personally. It’s wonderful to meet you, Anamika."
Anamika thanked them, slightly taken aback by their gesture. She followed them to their car, and on the way, they engaged in light-hearted conversation. Ishita shared anecdotes about Roohi’s excitement for the party and Raman's admiration for her achievements.
Soon, they arrived at the grand hotel where the party was to be held. The entrance gleamed with elaborate decorations, setting the tone for the lavish event. Raman escorted Anamika to her room, which was nothing short of luxurious.
"I hope this meets your expectations," Raman said, gesturing around the spacious suite.
"It’s perfect," Anamika replied, genuinely impressed. "Thank you for such thoughtful arrangements."
"Nothing but the best for our star collaborator," Raman said with a grin before leaving to tend to other preparations.
Once alone, Anamika unpacked her belongings and took a moment to admire the view from her window. Delhi’s skyline shimmered in the distance, the bustling city alive with energy. She then prepared for the evening, opting for an elegant but modest dress that would keep her pregnancy discreet.
As she glanced at her reflection in the mirror, she took a deep breath. Tonight wasn’t just about the project—it was another step forward, another chance to prove her strength to herself.
