Paige's Story
'the world is so often run by lies, the truth hardly ever makes it to light'
Silence. Her favourite sound, or at least, it always was until now. It signalised many things. For most, it was associated with peacefulness, calmness, and once upon a time, Paige associated it with that as well. But that was years ago, before her first Society mission.
Silence signified danger and an eerie, unsettling feeling of being followed or watched without knowing who or where the person was.
And that was her situation now.
The street was notorious for many deaths taking place in it. But did that stop Paige? Nope. It never did. You'd expect her to be more careful, especially with the Rebellion still on her tail. Instead, she wore a flashy white pant suit and didn't even bother wearing a disguise.
He saw her from a mile away as he fumbled with his phone, pretending as though he had a purpose other than meeting up with her. But her loud footsteps rung in his ears like a siren telling him to run and not look back. But did he listen? Nope.
I guess that what made them both so alike. Scarily alike.
"It's been long," Paige emitted into the murky night.
He raised his head and offered her a slight smile. She accepted it with a scoff.
"Playing nice now, are we?" She chuckled, circling him. "Acting as though last time we met you weren't trying to kill me?"
"We're allies now, aren't we?" He raised an eyebrow, a smirk crawling on his gorgeous face. "Or at least we were last time I checked."
"I don't usually hold meetings unarmed at night with an enemy." She glanced around the street. "And on this street for that matter."
He combed through his dark hair with his fingers.
"That being said, why did you call this meeting?" He eye balled her, watching as she slowly walked around him, eyes planted on the road.
"Something came up and I'm afraid I don't see myself as able to deal with this myself," she explained, making his eyes widen.
"You, Paige Davies, wants help? Man, never saw this coming."
She glared at him.
"Just tell me if you're in or not. I already get enough sarcasm from Blake on the daily. I don't think I be able to cope dealing with yours as well."
"It's a tempting deal, I must say," he rubbed his chin before turning around and pulling Paige so she was inches away from him, staring directly into his eyes. "Except, of course, what's in it for me?"
She scoffed, smelling the alcohol on his breath. It wasn't often she caught him even the slightest bit intoxicated but now, since he wasn't fully sober, she decided to use it to her advantage.
"Apart from saving the world?" Paige sighed. "Your kind are always so persistent. All you ever want is money. Disgusts me."
He let go of her to raise his hands up beside his head in a mock surrender.
"I'm not the one who fell for 'my kind'. And if you want my help, you're going to have to dig further than the cringy 'saving the world'. However, money does interest me."
"Don't bring him into this deal, Donghyun. Unless you want me to shoot you dead. Besides, you no longer work with mafia groups. And showing up to a meeting intoxicated? You know me better than that."
He smirked.
"Of course, apologies. And you're right. I do know you better but it was only one drink because I'm a grown man and I wanted to," he stuck his tongue out at her.
She sighed.
"We're going off topic. I put a hundred thousand on the table. Deal?"
He sucked the inside of his mouth, not in the slightest bit convinced.
"You're going to have to go higher than that, sweetheart."
Paige glowered at him.
"And how do I even know to trust you, huh? Assassins never keep their word."
"I think you are forgetting one major fact. I used to be part of a mafia group, honey. And we don't betray each other."
She scanned his eyes to find any existing lie hidden behind his words but there were none.
"Fine. Five hundred thousand. Deal?"
He cocked an eyebrow.
"We're getting there."
"Five hundred thousand and access to the Main Society Headquarters. Final offer."
He perked up.
"Including the canteen?"
"Yes. Deal?"
He grinned.
"It was almost too easy." With that, he outstretched a hand and shook Paige's to verify the deal.
She glanced around the street.
"I must go now. Don't want any enemies catching on."
His grin instantly turned into a sly smirk.
"Oh come on, Dave. We all know that's not your real worry. If they see me with you, they'll know what happened with Lincoln."
She tensed up.
"How did you catch on so quickly?"
He chuckled lowly.
"Don't underestimate assassins."
