Chapter 3: A Beautiful Warm And Cozy Night
(Lara and Nathan returned to the family.)
Lara: "Hey, Zip. We're back."
Zip: "Great! So, did you find what you were looking for?" (Lara and Nathan looked at each other.)
Lara: "Apparently, it isn't here."
Zip: "What?"
Lara: "Someone was there before we did. It was already too late."
Zip: "Wow. Hey, maybe I can look up the location for you. What's the artifact called?"
Nathan: "It's called the golden mask of...what was the name again?"
Lara: "Tornarsuk. That's the name."
Zip: "Okay, I'll let you know if I find anything in the source. By the way, the temperature is dropping quickly, so make sure you bundle up tonight. Otherwise, you'll become a snowman."
Lara: "Thanks for the weather update, Zip and stay warm tonight."
Zip: "Not to worry. I got two thermos. One with steaming hot soup and one with broiling hot coffee. I think I'll be warm enough." (Nathan chuckled at him.)
Nathan: "See you later, Zip."
Zip: "Peace, guys."
Lara: "Don't stay up too late staring at the computer screen."
Zip: "The same goes to you two." (Nathan and Lara went to Sully's igloo and Isabelle was sitting by a dimly lit campfire.)
Lara: "Hello, Isabelle."
Isabelle: "Hello, mother." (Isabelle grabbed a stick and started to make the fire come back.)
Nathan: "You're losing light."
Isabelle: "I know. Trying to get it back up again."
Nathan: "Let me help you with that." (He got on his knees and took the fire out with some ice. He then struck a match and puts it on the wood. He blew and blew until a spark of flame slowly rose up and it was a little big.)
Nathan: "There you go."
Isabelle: "Thanks, father."
Nathan: "You're welcome, honey." (Lara looked around for Trevor and he was nowhere to be seen.)
Lara: "Isabelle, where is your brother?"
Isabelle: "He went to go get some supply of fish so that we wouldn't run out."
Lara: "He went back to the frozen ocean alone?"
Isabelle: "Trevor didn't want me coming with him because fishing is only for a guys' job he told me." (Suddenly, a yell was heard in the distance. Mason took off and ran towards the yell.)
Isabelle: "Mason, come back!"
Lara: "Oh, god, Trevor. He shouldn't be out there!"
Nathan: "I'm going to get him and follow Mason." (He puts his pistol in his holster.)
Lara: "Nathan, are you sure?"
Nathan: "You stay here with Isabelle. I'm getting Trevor."
Lara: "Okay, but be careful."
Nathan: "Aren't I always?" (He got on the sled with snow dogs.)
Nathan: "Hike!" (The snow dogs took off and followed Mason.)
Lara: "Come on, Isabelle. We better get more firewood and train you."
Isabelle: "Okay." (Isabelle followed Lara through the icy woods. Mason made it to where Trevor was and he saw that he wasn't there. He sniffed the area where he was sitting and he got his scent. He barked to get Nathan's attention.)
Nathan: "Whoa. Whoa." (The snow dogs stopped moving and Nathan went to go investigate with Mason.)
Nathan: "What is it, boy? What do you smell?" (He barked and Nathan saw a fishing pole laying on top of a bucket.)
Nathan: "Trevor. Is that what you're telling me, Mas?" (Mason barked again and whimpered in sadness. Nathan looked over to the ocean and noticed what happened to him. Nathan's eyes were in shock.)
Nathan: "Oh, no. Trevor! Stay here, Mason!" (He drew in a deep breath and dived into the water. Mason was pacing back and forth looking at the water while Nathan was searching for Trevor. Nathan was losing oxygen and he took out a breathing device that Zip and Bryce created. He breathed through the device to get some air and he puts it back in his pocket. He swam forward to look around some more and he saw Trevor slowly sinking into the darkest part below him. His eyes were wide as he swam fast to grab him. Mason was still waiting for them to come back. The water was quiet and Mason was starting to get worried. He laid down on his belly and his head was on his forearms. He started to think that they didn't make it and to that, he whimpered softly in sadness with depressing eyes. Nathan came up to the surface gasping for air and he got Trevor in his arms. Mason happily barked and helped pull Trevor onto the icy ground with his strong teeth.)
Nathan: "Thanks for waiting for us, Mason. You're a good dog." (He rubbed his head and pets him. Mason barked and looked at Trevor. Nathan felt his pulse. It was going normal, but he was pale and a little blue.)
Nathan: (Shivering) "His pulse is normal, but it won't be for long. Better get a fire going and a big one. Mason, do you want to help me get firewood?" (Mason bowed and barked in response.)
Nathan: "I'll take that as a yes." (He smiled at Mason. Back to Isabelle and Lara at the campsite.)
Lara: "Isabelle, are you okay?"
Isabelle: "Can't stop thinking about great grandfather."
Lara: "Winston?"
Isabelle: "Yes, I just wish he didn't die, you know?"
Lara: "I know, Belle. I know, but it's life. That's how it's supposed to be."
Isabelle: "I wish it wasn't."
Lara: "Well, we can't do anything to change that. It's not possible. When we die, we die. It's how it goes. We can't change the past, you know why?" (Isabelle shook her head no.)
Lara: "Because it destroys the future. It just messes everything up in your life."
Isabelle: "Oh."
Lara: "You'll understand when you get to my age. Now, I'm going to teach you how to use a weapon. So, that way if you're in danger, you'll know how to use it. Are you ready?"
Isabelle: "We're going to do it right now, here?"
Lara: "Not exactly. Let's head back into the woods."
Isabelle: "Alright." (Back to Nathan and Mason sitting by the fire and waiting for Trevor to wake up. It was pretty quiet until Trevor was spilling out water from the corners of his mouth. He gasped and coughed out water. Nathan got to Trevor and took off his coat. He wrapped it around him.)
Nathan: "Here, you need to stay warm."
Trevor: "Dad?"
Nathan: "Yes, it's me, Trevor. Sit by the fire. You need to be warm." (Trevor walked a little close to the fire to feel the heat and sat down. Mason walked towards Trevor and puts his head in Trevor's lap. Trevor strokes him.)
Trevor: "Hey, there, Mason." (Mason licked his hand and he closed his eyes.)
Trevor: "So, what happened?"
Nathan: "You tell me." (Trevor thought of what happened.)
Trevor: "Well, I came here to get some more salmon, so we won't run out so quickly. So far, I collected at least 30 salmons in that bucket."
Nathan: "Wow. Looks like the old man taught you how to fish really well."
Trevor: "Yes, he did. It took a lot of practice, but it was worth it."
Nathan: "Here's the question that I'm going to ask you."
Trevor: "Okay."
Nathan: "Why the hell did you go alone?"
Trevor: "I wanted to see if I can do this in peace and quiet and besides girls don't need to do fishing. It's a guys' job."
Nathan: "Trevor, it doesn't matter. Men and women fish together."
Trevor: "Of course it matters."
Nathan: "No, Trevor. It doesn't. It doesn't matter if you're a man or a woman. If we both like fishing as a hobby, we love fishing as a hobby. Now, tell me how did you end up in the water?"
Trevor: "I saw wolves."
Nathan: "How many?"
Trevor: "I'd say about ten of them."
Nathan: "Did you move?"
Trevor: "I did."
Nathan: "Okay, the best thing to do if a wolf approaches you, you remain as still as possible. If they attack you right away, well...you need to be prepared with weapons. For example, my pistol. I'll let you practice shooting it."
Trevor: "Right now?"
Nathan: "Yes, you need to learn. I think you're capable of using a gun and plus you're older enough."
Trevor: "True, but Isabelle is a little older than me. She's seventeen."
Nathan: "Still, you're old enough. Now, what you need to do is try to hold the gun steady."
Lara: "It isn't hard. You just got to put your muscle into it." (Isabelle weighed the gun in her hands.)
Isabelle: "Whoa, it's really heavy."
Lara: "It may get heavy at first, but later it will get lighter."
Nathan: "Now, to reload, you take the magazine clip out from underneath. Dispose of it and add another magazine into it or add more bullets to the same clip."
Lara: "Keep your elbows in place and don't jerk the gun."
Nathan: "We don't want any accidents."
Trevor: "Right."
Isabelle: "Got it."
Lara: "Here's the kicker, if someone is trying to hurt you..."
Nathan: "You have many ways of handling it. You either..."
Lara: "Aim it at their head and threaten them, or calmly ask questions on what or why they're doing what they shouldn't be doing."
Nathan: "If they try to attack you anyway, don't hesitate to fire."
Lara: "Fire at least 3 shots to the head or body. Don't overdo it."
Nathan: "You'll waste all your ammo by being reckless."
Lara: "Always make sure you check your ammo to see if you have enough."
Nathan: "Always be prepared for anything. You don't know how many dangers will come at you."
Lara: "Whenever you're not using the gun, you put the safety on."
Nathan: "A slight tug of the trigger when the safety's off, then you're not looking so good. Make sure you turn the safety on. It's safer if you do so."
Lara: "And most importantly..."
Nathan and Lara: "Lightly squeeze the trigger."
Isabelle: "Okay, thanks, mother for teaching me how to use a gun. I think I'm capable to use it."
Lara: "I know you are. Because you're a Croft. It's in your blood." (Lara brushes her hair out of her face and behind her ear. Isabelle hugged her and Lara kissed her forehead.)
Lara: "Now, you better get some sleep and stay warm. I hope Nathan and Trevor will make it back."
Isabelle: "I'm sure they will, mother. Good night."
Lara: "Good night, dear." (Back to Nathan and Trevor.)
Trevor: "Thanks, dad for teaching me this."
Nathan: "You're welcome, Trev and remember if you're going fishing, don't go alone. Just come to me or Sully or anyone. Understand?"
Trevor: "Yes, dad. I'll remember that."
Nathan: "Okay, let's go back to Lara and Isabelle. I know they were worried about you." (He got up and Trevor got up as well.)
Trevor: "Yeah. Come on, Mason." (Mason barked as they went back to the family. Lara saw them coming.)
Lara: "Oh, my god. I was getting really worried about you two."
Nathan: "We're fine."
Lara: "Trevor, are you alright?"
Trevor: "Give me a hug and see for yourself." (Lara chuckled and she hugged him.)
Lara: "Still have that little boy humor. Goodness, have you children grew."
Trevor: "Yes, we have."
Lara: "You better go join your sister and go speak to her."
Trevor: "Okay, good night, mom and dad."
Nathan: "Good night, son."
Lara: "Good night, Trevor." (Trevor waved and went inside the igloo with Isabelle. Nathan was still soaked from the water and shivering.)
Lara: "Oh, god. Nathan, where the hell is your coat?" (She rubbed his arms to produce heat, but it wasn't working.)
Nathan: "I, uh, let Trev borrow my coat for a while. He needed it way more than me."
Lara: "Crap. You better get in here and take off that wet shirt of yours."
Nathan: "You don't have to tell me twice about that, Lara."
Lara: "Come on, let's go inside our igloo. You need to be really warm and by warm, I mean under 10 blankets." (Nathan laughed at her.)
Nathan: "You're funny and don't forget I got to tickle you since you're not ticklish anymore you say."
Lara: "I'm not."
Nathan: "We'll see." (They walked into their igloo and Nathan took off his shirt. He hanged it near on a coat racket.)
Nathan: "So, you don't believe me that mountains can glow, right?" (He started tickling her everywhere.)
Lara: (Laughing) "No, I don't!"
Nathan: "You don't, huh?" (Nathan kept tickling her and Lara kept laughing.)
Lara: (Laughing) "Nate, stop! I don't like it when you tickle me to death!"
Nathan: "Are you sure? Because it seems like you're enjoying it."
Lara: (Laughing) "I'm not!"
Nathan: "Oh, really? Then, how come are you laughing?" (He kept tickling her and she was laughing hard.)
Lara: (Laughing) "Okay, okay, okay! Uncle! Uncle!"
Nathan: "That's not the answer that I'm looking for!" (Lara was laughing even more.)
Lara: (Laughing) "Okay, okay! I'm enjoying it! I'm enjoying it! Please, stop!" (Nathan finally stopped tickling her.)
Nathan: "There you go. How about some hot coffee, huh?"
Lara: "I'd like that a whole lot. Way better than tickling me, Nate." (She lightly punched his shoulder and Nathan rubbed it.)
Nathan: "Ow!"
Lara: "Oh, come on. That didn't hurt at all, you big baby."
Nathan: "Yes, it did."
Lara: "I didn't even hit you that hard."
Nathan: "Still though. You got a good arm."
Lara: "Thank you. It's funny because Reye's friend Diana said that I have a "heavy swing"."
Nathan: "Yeah, I can tell." (He pours the coffee into two coffee cups.)
Nathan: "I have a question to ask you."
Lara: "Of course." (She criss-crossed her legs on the bed and sat up straight.)
Nathan: "What was your mother like?" (Lara looked down and sighed.)
Lara: "My mother was a very sweet, kind and adventurous woman. She loved to travel to so many places. Like Paris, Rome, and Venezuela. It was a dream come true to her. She dearly loved my father really terribly. She also craves for being an artist. He fancies her by giving her everything she wanted. The piano for starters." (She chuckled softly and Nathan smiled.)
Nathan: "Sounded like they loved each other very much." (He gave her the cup of coffee and next to her on the bed.)
Lara: "Very deeply in love. My mother taught me piano lessons and that's how I became so...good with the piano."
Nathan: "Well, to that I am impressed."
Lara: "Thank you, Nate."
Nathan: "So...how did she..." (Lara raised her eyebrows to see if he was going to finish his sentence.)
Nathan: "How did she die?" (Lara looks in her cup of coffee.)
Lara: (Sighs) "Oh, the last thing I remember from my mother's letter that Winston gave me so long ago was that she died in a plane crash. I was very young when this happened and I wasn't allow to travel just yet because I haven't grown. I was just a child."
Nathan: "Lara, I'm sorry."
Lara: "It's fine. At least she's in a better place with my father and everyone."
Nathan: "Yeah." (Lara took a sip and suddenly her shoulder popped.)
Lara: "Ouch."
Nathan: "What is it?"
Lara: "Nothing. It's just my shoulders are sore."
Nathan: "Well, that's not good. How about I make you feel comfortable?" (He puts his coffee on the bed rest and cracked his knuckles.)
Lara: "Oh, no, no, no. Nate, there's no need." (He took her coffee as well and puts it next to his.)
Nathan: "Yeah, you need this treatment. Just relax and breathe through your nose." (Nathan faced her back and grabbed her shoulders.)
Lara: "Nathan..."
Nathan: "Lara, relax. Loosen yourself up. You're so tense. I'm right here." (He started to massage Lara's shoulders gently and slow. Lara closed her eyes and started to breathe through your nose.)
Nathan: "See, you're a natural at this."
Lara: "Funny. Is this one of your secrets, too?"
Nathan: "Of a sort. Elena doesn't think that I was a good massager."
Lara: "How come?"
Nathan: "She said my hands were too rough."
Lara: "Ouch."
Nathan: "I know right. So, I stopped massaging her because if I didn't, she would've knocked my lights out."
Lara: "Well, so far. I'm loving your massages. I don't think you're rough handed."
Nathan: "You don't?"
Lara: "I'm being honest."
Nathan: "Huh. I guess I should do this more often. To you, I mean."
Lara: "Good. I'm glad." (Nathan stopped massaging her.)
Nathan: "How do you feel?" (Lara moved her shoulders around and not a single pop occured from them.)
Lara: "I feel so much better and I can tell that you want to kiss me."
Nathan: "Whoa, how did you know that? Are you some kind of mind reader now and you haven't told me that secret?"
Lara: "It's no secret and I should have told you this before. It's my survival instincts."
Nathan: "For real? Are you serious?"
Lara: "Yes. I'm absolutely serious. Like right now, you are so tempted to touch me."
Nathan: "Wow, it's literally like you know what I'm thinking inside my head in seconds."
Lara: "I don't do telepathy, Nate. My survival instincts are enhanced in expert. I can sense anything. Movement, sound, smell, even thoughts. Which is bizarre. Remember that golden fleece way back when I first met Elena?"
Nathan: "Yes."
Lara: "It's sort of like that when the fleece shows me visions of what's about to happen right when it happens."
Nathan: "Whew. That is extraordinary. You have to teach me that."
Lara: "Whenever we get a chance to."
Nathan: "Hopefully soon."
Lara: "Yeah, hopefully. Or perhaps, right now."
Nathan: "Right now."
Lara: "Yes. Now, close your eyes."
Nathan: "Okay." (He closes his eyes and Lara shreds off a piece of cloth. She puts it over his eyes and tied it.)
Nathan: "Blindfolded again?"
Lara: "Yes, just like in the beginning. Except take your instincts a little further to maximum just like I did."
Nathan: "But how?"
Lara: "Expand your mind. Focus and try to find me. Once again." (Nathan focused really hard and tries to find her again.)
Nathan: "It's been a while since I did this."
Lara: "You can do this. Just find me." (Nathan used his survival instincts to see through the wall like x-ray vision.)
Nathan: "I see you."
Lara: "But where do you see me?"
Nathan: "You're hiding in the closet." (Lara got out of the closet.)
Lara: "Very good. Let's try again."
Nathan: "Okay." (Lara moved quick as lightning and silent like a predator to a different location in the igloo.)
Lara: "Where am I, now?" (Nathan focused really hard to find Lara and he did.)
Nathan: "You're in the kitchen area."
Lara: "Excellent. Last one. Where am I?" (Nathan focused on the last one and he noticed where she was.)
Nathan: "Right in front of me." (Lara slowly took his blindfold off his eyes.)
Lara: "Spectacular. You did it, Nate. You passed. You're thinking of your reward. I can tell."
Nathan: "You're right and I think you're going to kiss me."
Lara: "You are correct." (Nathan dove into her lips and Lara was putting her hands on his chest rubbing it. Nathan picks her up and she chuckled as they got on the bed. Nathan gently took her shirt off and started kissing her neck to her abdominal area. Lara moaned softly as she lets her brunette hair down. It was very long to her back and Lara started kissing him on his neck. Nathan closed his eyes because her lips felt so soft and moist. He rubbed her back with his gentle touch and she smiled at him. She got on top of him as Nathan slowly moved her bra straps away from her soft shoulders and down her arms halfway. Lara looked at her bra straps and raised an eyebrow at him. Nathan smirked at her and was about to let them down some more, but Lara pinned his arms down against the pillows. Nathan looked how she gripped his arms and they were tight like she was using her super strength powers. Reye's friend did say that she has a "heavy swing" and she is absolutely right! Nathan then had a technique that made Lara flip on her back against the pillows, so that way Nathan's on top. Now, he got Lara pinned down and he looked at her chest. Nathan traced the curves of her chest and he kissed her hard while Lara's legs wrapped around his waist. They both moaned into the kiss and Nathan was feeling all over her body. A few minutes later, things got even more intense if you catch my drift. 😆😉💓👍Then after that, they just went back to normal kissing again. Nathan caressed her neck while kissing her passionately.)
Nathan: "Mmm." (He lets her go and saw Lara.)
Nathan: "Are you okay?"
Lara: "I'm fine. That was very satisfying."
Nathan: "Indeed it was." (They smiled at each other and kissed one last time.)
Lara: "God, I love you." (They both got under the warm blankets.)
Nathan: "I know. I love you, too." (Lara puts her head on his chest to hear his gentle heartbeat and Nathan strokes her soft brunette hair.)
Nathan: "So, how did I do?"
Lara: "What?"
Nathan: "The test."
Lara: "You tell me." (Nathan thought at the top of his head.)
Nathan: "It was pretty complicated at first because I got a little rusty, but every time I use my instincts, they started to become sharper just like yours."
Lara: "As what Zip would say: "Lara, your mind is much sharper than a axe's sharp edge."
Nathan: "And do you believe him?"
Lara: "If my father said that, yes, but I believe Zip."
Nathan: "Nice. How was the coffee earlier?"
Lara: "It was delicious."
Nathan: "Just like you." (Lara had her mouth open like she was shocked and Nathan winked at her.)
Lara: "You naughty man."
Nathan: "Are you trying to threaten me? Because I love it when you get mad."
Lara: "That's because I'm a survivor and a tomb raider."
Nathan: "Well, let me hunt and raid your tomb, Lara."
Lara: "Not until I find your treasure first, Nate the hunter."
Nathan: "You see? Now, we're both being naughty. We're even."
Lara: "Hmph."
Nathan: "Come on." (He shook her gently and playfully like a little kid.)
Nathan: "Round three? Hmm?" (He kisses her neck again and Lara grabbed at the back of his neck while Nathan was biting her ear lobe gently. Lara rolled her eyes like she didn't care.)
Lara: "Oh, what the hell." (She got to his lips and they kept going until they went to sleep. The moon was shining over the igloos at night and the wind was getting colder as everyone slept in their warm and cozy beds.)
