Episode 1.8
Lumina glanced up and around as Leia led her, Ben, and Lucas through sparkling white tunnels. Only a few people passed them in the corridors as they headed towards the infirmary, glancing at the three teens in their jeans and thick overcoats curiously as they walked by.
Up ahead of them, a guy was pacing back and forth before a closed door. He looked very much like Luke Skywalker. As they neared him, he glanced up and Lumina saw that indeed, he was Luke, albeit a worried one.
He sighed in relief, halting. "Han found you. Good."
"I'd say," Lucas muttered, shifting his weight uneasily. "How's Leana? Can we see her?"
"Not yet," Luke said. "She just came out of the bacta tank and she's still unconscious. They won't let us see her until she's awake." He smiled at Leia and then glanced at the three teenagers. "You haven't told me your names."
"Lumina Duly," Lumina said.
"Lucas Skylark," Lucas introduced.
"Ben O'Connor," Ben said.
Luke nodded. "Nice to meet you. How did you four end up on Hoth?"
The three exchanged a look. Well, it's sort of funny. We fell through a hole in our subway station on our way to see a Star Wars movie and ended up in a cave sounded a bit...odd.
"Well," Ben started, clearly looking like he had no idea how to continue.
"Our ship crashed," Lumina told Leia and Luke, well aware that they didn't yet have a well-developed cover story. Her mind raced, threading all the pieces together into a cohesive narrative – she hoped. "We were instructed to come to this system by – well, by a friend. He told us we would find the Rebels here."
Leia frowned. "Who?"
Lumina knew she had to appeal to Luke on this one. If anyone would believe their story about Qui-Gon Jinn, it was him. "A Jedi sent us."
"Who?" Leia asked again, but this time her voice was excited.
"You said it was a Qui-Gon Jinn?" Luke asked, a slight frown meandering over his lips. "He trained Obi-Wan Kenobi?"
"Yes," Lumina answered firmly. "He sent us here."
"How did he know where to find us?" Leia asked, her tone a mixture of curiosity and fear.
"My master is well informed," Lumina said. She almost reassured Leia on the safety of her base and then realized the Imperials would be showing up soon. Let her feel a little nervous. It will come in handy.
"And he's also dead," Lucas muttered, so softly only she and Ben heard him.
"He told us what we needed to know," Lumina finished. "Nothing more."
Leia and Luke exchanged a glance. After a moment of tense silence, Luke said, slowly, "I trust them."
Leia pursed her lips and Lumina could tell she was hiding a bit of doubt. "My father never spoke of this Qui-Gon Jinn."
"My master has been behind the scenes since Palpatine came to power," Lumina told her, giving her best reassuring smile. "He prefers it that way."
"I trust them," Luke repeated. "They have been sent to help us, Leia."
You have no idea how true that is, Lumina thought, feeling a hint of desperation creep into her mind.
"We are always glad for new recruits," Leia told them, smiling at Lumina. "Welcome to the Rebellion."
"We're ready to serve," Ben said, coming to attention and snapping a salute.
You four have been selected to alter the ending. Qui-Gon's words rang in Lumina's head. You need to practice, to train.
Well, let's see what we can do.
"I do have important news," Lumina said to Leia, selecting her words tactfully. "We spotted an Imperial Star Destroyer in this system. It appeared that they were releasing probe droids. Our cloaking device was on, so I don't believe they saw us, but you might want to run a scan."
Leia and Luke exchanged another glance, but this one looked a little bit more alarmed. "I'll have someone check up on this," Leia said. "Excuse me."
As Leia started away down the corridor, the door they were standing in front of slid back and a 2-1B medical droid looked out at them impassively. "Your friend has awoken," it said. "You may come and see her now."
