Chapter 5: ...Never an Option
The televised broadcast was airing a special about the recent tragedies. First the Garage Explosion. Then the Oil Tanker explosion and Pile Up. Then the Falling LED Board.
And Popular Podcast Host John Jonah Jameson was quick to talk about the hot topic of the times. "Ladies and Gentlemen, We have yet another tragic report that twelve people were killed in the Times Square Tragedy yesterday. This coming two days after an Oil tanker blows up and causes a massive pile-up outside Tony D's, which came one day after Giancarlo's Auto Repairs goes up in flames! Is there just bad luck afoot in Manhattan? Or is there something more sinister going on here?"
As the television droned on, filling the small studio apartment with its incessant chatter, Crystal Zamora leaned back in her worn-out recliner, taking a long drag from her cigarette. Smoke curled lazily around her head, dancing with the shadows that flickered across the dimly lit room. She exhaled slowly, watching as the tendrils dissipated into nothingness, carrying away some of the stress that had settled deep within her.
"Lemme guess, he's gonna find a way to blame Spiderman," Crystal mused, her voice tinged with sarcasm as she took another drag from her cigarette. The smoke curled around her like an ethereal serpent, its tendrils intertwining with the shadows that danced across the dimly lit room. She exhaled slowly, savoring the bitter taste of nicotine on her tongue as she leaned back in her worn-out recliner.
"And you know what I find ironic? A big, falling object that could've been stopped by a strong so-called 'Hero'? Where in the Hell was the so called Protector of New York?! Where was Spider Man? Or maybe, The Web Flinging Felon was BEHIND these vile attacks!"
Crystal let out a hearty chuckle, having been proven right not even a whole minute later than when she made her sarcastic remark. She took another drag from her cigarette, letting the smoke swirl and dance in the dimly lit room, as if mimicking her amusement. The eccentric news anchor continued to speculate on the recent tragedies that had befallen Manhattan...
---Meanwhile...---
At the studio where the news was being filmed, Jameson prepared to welcome a special guest. "And now, Ladies and gentlemen, to shed some light on the whole situation, here's a doctor who specializes in human Mutations! Yes, he studies these Superfreaks to learn about them, so we can take 'em down when they try to over run our government!" Jameson proclaims loudly and proudly.
The camera zooms out, revealing the doctor, who had clearly been grieving for the past 48 hours. "Doctor Owens, do you think a Mutant is behind these recent disasters?"
Doctor Owens, a man weary from grief and determination etched upon his face, gazes directly into the camera. The weariness in his eyes is palpable, as if the weight of the world rests on his shoulders. He takes a deep breath, steadying himself before he plunges into the abyss of truth.
"Mr. Jameson," Doctor Owens begins, his voice laced with a mixture of exhaustion and conviction.
Jameson leaned forward, his eyes gleaming with anticipation. "Doctor Owens, the people are desperate for answers, they want to know who is responsible for these tragic events. Can you shed some light on the matter?"
Doctor Owens ran a weary hand through his disheveled hair, his tired eyes scanning the room as if searching for a glimmer of hope amidst the chaos. Doctor Owens took a deep breath, his weary gaze fixed on the camera lens. He could feel the weight of the world pressing down on him, every word he spoke carrying the burden of his grief and determination.
"The recent tragedies that have befallen this city have left me shattered, both as a doctor and as a grieving father," Doctor Owens began, his voice heavy with sorrow. He paused for a moment, allowing his words to sink in before continuing. "In the tragedy of Tony D's, I lost my wife Nicole. I lost my daughter Bridgett. But, what shatters me most is, we were all looking in the wrong places. We were looking for a Telekinetic mutant named Christopher Catalyst, but our top research, science, and forensic evidence teams have determined that he, after all, Is Innocent."
Crystal lurches upright in her chair. "The fuck-?" She mutters as she puts her cigarette out.
Owens continues. "The gas leak that blew up the Garage... that was not caused by a livewire striking some spilled oil, as first believed. It was caused when..." the doctor clicks a button to show an image on the wall behind them. "...When this gas tank was ruptured by a singular, sharp object. Seemingly, it punctured the tank, and a nearby accidental spark of Mr. Catalyst's car caused the explosion. My professional opinion? It was an inside job, an attempt on the life of Mister Catalyst."
Crystal scoffs, pouring a glass of JD's. "Bull-fucking-Shit!" She can't believe her eyes.
"And furthermore, The road incident, while Mr. Catalyst was there, we believe he was harassed and assaulted by two rogue individual mutants, One of them a former agent of..." He gulped. "Hydra."
Crystal spit out the Whiskey she'd just tried to drink. She stared in disbelief. Zamora immediately caught onto what Owens was doing... or, rather, was about to do. "He can't be serious..."
"A truck with a slashed tire careened off the road, hitting a Volkswagon, which was destroyed. It was believed that scrap metal ejected from the Collision sparked the oil, and that caused that explosion. But I believe it was a deliberate spark, caused by someone strong enough to scrape a powerful metal hard enough to light the oil ablaze."
Crystal shakes her head, her worst suspicions being confirmed. She picks up her phone and immediately calls her SHIELD partner, Mitch. "McGuinness. You seeing this Triple J interview?" She asks, her voice laden with worry.
"Oh, I'm seeing it, Crys," McGuinness says, his voice tinged with both worry and determination. "This doesn't sit right with me. Seems he's pinnin' the blame on our good mate Cade, ain't he?" The Aussie theorizes.
Then, as Crystal watches the broadcast, Owens breaks down the Falling LED Tron. "Those wires weren't worn out, they weren't old. They were deliberately CUT by one man!"
"He really is..." Crystal gasped in disbelief.
"That Bastard..." Mitch curses the doctor under his breath.
Owens calmly clicked next, and a picture of Cayden popped up. "Ladies and Gentlemen, if you see this man..."
He takes a deep breath after a long pause, the distain for seeing the image of the young mutant practically oozing out his pores. Nonetheless, he tried to maintain composure. "If you see him... SPIT on this man! You see him on the streets, Yell in his face that he's a Murderer! You see this man, tell 'em to Get the hell out of OUR City!! Hell, If You see him, Run 'em over with your Damn car! This man is dangerous, and He's far more of a threat to this city than Spiderman ever will be! This man is a Murderer, who's madly in love with a Murderer! They probably serve Hydra with each and every action they do!"
Jameson looks to the side, as this wasn't in the script. Suddenly, Owens stands up, flipping his desk over. The room fell into a stunned silence as Doctor Owens began to erupt in a fit of rage, his words loaded with venom and hatred. His voice filled the air, resonating with the intensity of a storm brewing on the horizon. The once composed doctor had become unhinged, his façade shattered to reveal the darkness that had consumed him.
"CAYDEN BARONE, YOU SON OF A BITCH!! NOW THE WORLD KNOWS! YOU TRIED TO KILL YOUR FRIENDS, YOU TRIED TO KILL MY ASSISTANT, AND THEN...!!! AND THE YOU AND YOUR LITTLE HYDRA ASSOCIATE EMMA QUINN KILLED MY FAMILY!! THEY'RE DEAD!! THEY'RE DEAD THEY'RE DEAD THEY'RE DEAD!!!! AND ITS ALL YOUR FAULT, YOU MOTHERFUCKERS!! I'LL KILL YOU!! ILL FUCKING KILL ALL OF YOUR LOVED ONES!! I'LL RIP THEIR FUCKING GUTS OUT AND JUMP ROPE WITH THEM!!! I'LL MAKE YOU PAY YOU GOD DAMN TERRORIST MUTANT BASTARD!! I'LL-"
The feed suddenly cut to the black screen of death, as the network cut the broadcast.
Crystal and Mitch watched in disbelief as Owens unleashed his verbal onslaught. Her heart pounded in her chest, her mind struggling to process the magnitude of his accusations.
"He's... pinning Cayden as a Mass murderer."
"And I reckon He's claiming Quinn's still Hydra's pawn." Mitch shakes his head. "This just isn't right, Crys. Fury's gonna want a chat with us later. Be ready to head to HQ."
She twirls her phone, as it's on speaker. "Yeah, yeah. I know the drill. Tell someone who gives a shit about protocol more than the safety of a few acquaintances. Those two are an investment I made, they helped me secure information that can bust hundreds of local crime rings. I'm gonna expose the underground to the light, and I could've never done it without those two. So yeah, I'll protect my investments. It's called good business... Mitch." She hangs up without letting him rebuttle.
McGuinness sighs. A Shield coworker sitting next to him notices. "Your partner?" Mitch nods. "Agent Zamora. She's quite the handful, aye Brayden?" Mitch chuckles. Agent Brayden cracks a slight smirk. "Oh, you have NO idea, my friend..." His voice trails off.
-----
All four of the roommates sat in shock, watching the TV screen. Alexa's jaw hung opened. Luke rubbed his forehead, still trying to process the ramblings of the Doctor.
He couldn't believe what he was hearing, the accusations thrown against Cayden and Emma were beyond outrageous. Anger welled up within him, like an inferno threatening to consume everything in its path. Owens dares blame them for the deaths of his family? Luke clenched his fists, feeling the rage pulsating through his veins.
But this was nothing compared to what Emma and Cayden felt. Their very existence, their identities, were being torn apart on live television. Emma's hands trembled as she clutched the edges of the sofa, her knuckles turning white. She could feel her heart racing in her chest, pounding against her ribcage like a wild animal desperate for escape.
Cayden sat there in stunned silence, his platinum blonde hair tousled and unkempt. He couldn't decide on whether to throw a rage fit or to just sink back to sleep as if it's all just a bad dream.
Cayden's mind was a whirlwind of conflicting emotions. Anger, frustration, and disbelief surged through his veins like a tempest in the night. He clenched his fists, feeling the raw power coursing through his body, aching to be unleashed. But beneath the anger, there was also a deep sense of hurt and betrayal. How could someone they once trusted turn against them so viciously? Cayden stands, charging toward the door at a brisk pace, but Luke beats him there and slams the front door shut. Cayden sighs, annoyance heavily behind his tone. "Move out of my way."
"He knows what we're capable of. Why would he try and point the finger at you if he wasn't trying to get a reaction?!" Luke barks back. Cayden stares at the floor, contemplating this revelation. He begrudgingly sits back down on the couch next to Emma. "I guess you're right..." He admits, much to his own displeasure.
Luke's emerald green eyes bore into Cayden's, a mixture of concern and frustration evident in his gaze. He took a step closer, his tall frame towering over Cayden's seated form. "We can't let this get to us. Owens is trying to bait you into getting into another fight. We need to stay focused and find a way to clear your name."
Cayden's blue eyes flickered with a hint of anger, his jaw set in determination.
The four sit in relative silence until A knock comes at their door.
Cayden's nostrils flared as he stood up from the couch, his mind racing with a mixture of frustration and determination. The knock at the door only added fuel to the fire that burned within him. He took a deep breath, trying to quell the storm brewing inside him, before making his way towards the door.
Alexa glanced at Luke, her eyes reflecting both concern and fear.
Cayden's grip tightened around the doorknob as he swung open the door, revealing a figure standing in the dimly lit hallway. The figure was cloaked in shadows, their face obscured by darkness. Cayden's heart raced in his chest, uncertainty and caution coursing through his veins like a drug. He took a step back, instinctively shielding Emma and Alexa behind him.
The figure stepped forward, their footsteps echoing ominously against the cold, hard floor. "Motherfucker, your explanation for this better be Damn good!" The familiar, all be it agitated voice of Nick Fury was a rather welcome sound, despite the circumstances.
"Nick," Cayden's voice was laced with a mixture of relief and frustration. "What the hell is going on? We're being framed for things we didn't do. Owens just went on national television and accused us of murder."
Fury's piercing gaze met Cayden's, his one good eye narrowing slightly as he surveyed the young mutant. "I saw the broadcast, kid. It doesn't look good. Worst part about it is, my direct superiors now have a reasonable doubt against you being in our program... and one of 'em even requested incarceration."
Nick Fury's stern gaze bore into Cayden's eyes, his expression unreadable. The weight of the accusations hung in the air, thick and suffocating. Cayden's heart raced as he struggled to find the right words to defend himself.
"Nick, you know me," Cayden pleaded, his voice tinged with desperation. "I would never do anything like tha-"
"Then answer these questions for me, but pretend I don't already know your ass didn't cause all this shit. To play devil's advocate, so to speak."
Cayden nods in response to Fury's proposition.
"Were you in the vicinity of the garage when it exploded?"
Cayden nods. "Of course."
"Did you puncture a gas tank in any way? Whether accidentally or purposefully." Cayden takes a moment to recall. "Catalyst tried assaulting Corey and I mightve hit one by accident."
"Did you or did you not stab alleged suspect Chris Catalyst in the leg at Tony D's?"
"He was trying to escape!"
"Did you slash a truck's tire in any way?"
"I pushed Emma out of the way and... I might've. I can't remember, it all happened so fast."
"And for the Giant Ass light board, where were you?"
"Walking home from helping YOUR agent capture some Intel Hydra had at a secret facility, because I got caught fighting some Weapon X Twenty-Something!"
Fury stroked his chin. "You fought some genetic motherfucking weapon?"
Emma nods. "It looked just like him-"
Fury's eye darts to Emma. "What did you just say?!"
Fury's voice boomed through the room, his eye narrowing as he stared intently at Emma. She shifted uncomfortably under his gaze, her eyes flickering nervously. Her slender fingers tangled in her hair, pulling at the strands in an attempt to ease her anxiety. The weight of Fury's suspicion bore down on her like a heavy burden, threatening to crush her fragile sense of security.
Luke stepped forward, placing a protective hand on Emma's shoulder.
"He looked almost exactly like Cayden." Emma says, this time more confident than before. Fury pulls out his phone and shows an image of a brolic man with long, silver hair and golden eyes. "This him?" Emma takes one look at the photo before nodding intently. "Not a doubt in my mind."
"His name's Xavier Wilde. Former informant of ours, was an Inside man in some underground operations. He went dark a few years ago and we never heard from 'em again. Looks like you found what Hydra did to 'em."
Cayden shakes his head. "He talked to me as if he almost was me. He acted like Me, fought like me..."
Fury chuckles to himself. "Oh, that can be explained. Wilde was killed by Hydra when he wouldn't give up his employers, then they recoded his genetics to match yours. They rewired his genetic code and even his memories. He may as well be a second you walkin' around."
Cayden's mind reeled with the revelation of Xavier Wilde's existence. A clone... a twisted, sinister version of himself walking among them, wreaking havoc in his name. The thought sent shivers down his spine, an unsettling mix of fear and anger churning in the pit of his stomach.
Luke tightened his grip on Emma's shoulder, his protective instincts kicking into overdrive. Emma slapped his arm, as his grip began to hurt her shoulder.
Luke winced as Emma's hand made contact with his arm, her frustration evident in the swift motion. He immediately released his grip on her shoulder, feeling a pang of guilt for unintentionally causing her pain. His emerald green eyes softened as he looked at her, concern etched across his rugged features. "Sorry, Em. I didn't mean to hurt you."
Emma's icy gaze met Luke's, a mix of annoyance and vulnerability swirling within her stormy ocean-blue eyes as she scoffed and seemingly brushed it off. Fury sighs, reading a text message he got from one of his superiors. "Bad news, kids." Fury's voice was low and filled with tension as he relayed the message. "The sole council member undermined the rest of us and placed a bounty to be claimed by whoever brings Cayden in."
Cayden's heart sank at Fury's words, the weight of the situation pressing down on him like a ton of bricks. The realization that he was now a target, hunted by both allies and enemies alike, sent a chill down his spine. He glanced at Emma, seeing the worry etched on her face as she bit her lower lip. The intensity in her eyes mirrored his own, a shared understanding of the danger that now loomed over them. "I'm gonna head out for a while. To keep you all safe..."
Luke rolls his eyes and crosses his arms. "Fat chance. I'm going with." Emma jumps up as well. "You're NOT leaving me alone again. I'm tagging along whether you like it or not!" Alexa shrugs. "I'll hold down the fort, I guess." Cayden manages a smirk. "How'd I get lucky enough to find friends like this?" He wonders to himself. Alexa smirks, obviously having read his mind. "How sweet." She says aloud. Cayden shoots her a glare. "Outta my head, Alexa." He snaps sternly, yet a hint of his playful sarcasm plagued his voice. Even when upset, he couldn't be truly mad at his sibling.
Cayden motions for Luke and Emma to follow him. "Emma, get the car, now. Luke, get anything you might need."
As the young mutants ran to gather the necessary items for this trip. Luke's emerald eyes locked with Cayden's, a silent pact forming between the two as they prepared to face the unknown. Their bond as brothers-in-arms ran deep, forged through countless battles fought side by side. In that moment, there was an unspoken understanding, a shared determination to protect those they held dear.
Emma's heart pounded in her chest as she hurriedly made her way towards the garage, her mind racing with a mixture of fear and adrenaline. She stops in front of a shiny, cherry red Lamborghini. She remembers something Cayden taught her a long time ago... she found herself gravitating towards the sports car, pulling a lockpick from her coat pocket.
She fiddles and tinkers with it carefully, her slender fingers moving with precision and finesse. Emma had always been skilled in the art of lockpicking, a skill she had acquired during her time as a former HYDRA agent. The metallic clicking sound filled the air as the lock finally yielded to her expertise.
With a satisfied smirk, Emma pulled open the car door and slipped inside, her eyes scanning the interior.
Emma wastes little time attempting to hotwire the vehicle. As Emma's nimble fingers danced across the intricate wiring beneath the steering column, her mind raced with a mixture of anticipation and anxiety. The soft glow of the dashboard lights illuminated her face, casting an eerie shadow that played upon her features. The weight of their situation settled heavily upon her shoulders, a burden she could not ignore.
She was about to commit a serious crime here... but she shrugged it off. She's done far worse in the past for much less than this. After all, this was so they could go on the run from any SHIELD agent looking to cash in on the bounty!
As Emma pulled up to the front doors of their high-rise condo, the sleek and polished exterior of the building loomed before them like a fortress. The large glass entrance glistened under the glow of the city lights, reflecting the world outside with a sense of detachment. Cayden and Luke stood waiting, their expressions etched with a mix of determination and concern. The wind whipped at their hair, causing it to dance in chaotic patterns against the backdrop of the darkened sky.
Luke examines the Car. "I didnt know you had a Lambo!" Emma scoots over, allowing Cayden to take the Driver's seat. "I don't. I kinda stole it."
Luke rubs hus sinuses. "You're telling me you stole a $100,000 car." Emma giggles as she gets in the passenger seat. "Yup! Dunno what you expected, I don't exactly play by the whole Hero's Honor shit you hold yourself to, Mister Tall Smart 'n Lawful."
Cayden has less reservations about it than his roommate does. He jumps in the driver's seat without hesitation. "Hey, It's fast and we can get places in it. Get in or get lost!" Luke, begrudgingly, gets in the backseat of the car, and the trio speeds away in their new ride.
About an hour later, they find themselves on a backed-up Freeway, the trio keep their eyes out for anyone who may recognize them. They seemed to drop their guard slightly as the sun was high overhead.
As the sun beat down mercilessly on the crowded freeway, the air seemed to thicken with the suffocating heat. Beads of sweat formed on Cayden's forehead, his messy platinum blonde hair sticking to his skin in damp strands. He tapped his fingers impatiently against the steering wheel, his mind racing with a mix of anxiety and determination.
"Why won't this damn traffic move?" Emma growled, her frustration palpable in her voice. She glanced out of the car window, her gaze fixed on the sea of immobile vehicles stretching out before them. The relentless heat made beads of sweat form on her forehead, trickling down her temple like tiny rivulets of frustration.
Cayden let out a deep sigh, his blue eyes scanning the stagnant traffic with a mix of impatience and resignation.
The melancholic hum of non-moving car engines was broken by the sound of something flying through the air. Cayden's reflexes kicked in, and his blade shot out just in time to slice the object in question clean in half... an Arrow, fired through Emma's open window, intended for him. "Well, it's not ideal, but I think someone found us." He unbuckles himself, opening the car door and stepping out onto the Freeway, a speck among a sea of non-mobile vehicles.
Another pair of arrow whizz through the air, both dodged by Cayden. They each hit a separate car, which both suffer sudden engine failures after a small electrical noise was made when the arrows made contact with the vehicles. Cayden glances back at one of the arrows, noting it's non-sharp tip, instead having a small device attached. "A taser of some kind. Clever, but not enough." He says, taking off, weaving through the traffic as he ducks and dodges more Arrows, with one fateful stray arrow even hitting a gas tank. Cayden heard a terrifying Sparking noise, which he was all too familiar with his experience fixing cars with Olivia, and immediately turned to the car in question, pulling the door off the passenger side. A man and a woman were in the car. "MOVE! NOW! IT'S GONNA BLOW!!" He yells, nearly ripping the woman out of the passenger seat as the man hastily unbuckles himself and ditches his car, trusting this freakishly strong stranger.
Luke finally runs up to the scene, And without a second thought, he bends down, gripping the underside of the car. "CAYDEN, OTHER SIDE!"
Cayden understands the goal immediately. They both hoist up as hard as they can, managing to throw the car a good 100 feet in the air! Mid flight, the car bursts into a ball of fire. The crackling flames licked at the darkening sky, casting an eerie glow that illuminated the chaos unfolding before them. Cayden's heart pounded in his chest as he watched the fiery spectacle, his mind racing with a mixture of fear and adrenaline. Debris falls back down to earth, peppering the side of the Freeway with flaming scraps and hunks of metal.
The acrid scent of burning rubber and gasoline filled the air, intermingling with the sharp tang of smoke. The flames danced and crackled, casting an eerie glow on the faces of Cayden, Luke, and Emma as they stood in awe of the chaos that surrounded them. Their eyes widened in unison as they took in the devastation, a stark reminder of the danger that lurked within their world.
Cayden's blade exits from between his middle two knuckles on his right hand, as he narrowly dodges and slashes one more arrow out of the air before they finally see the source of the projectiles: a woman dressed in black and purple, hood over her head and mask covering the lower half of her face, weilding a Bow and Arrow.
Cayden's heart pounded in his chest as he faced off against the mysterious woman with the bow and arrow. His mind raced, analyzing her every move, searching for any weakness he could exploit. The tension in the air was palpable, thick with a mix of anticipation and adrenaline.
Emma's eyes narrowed as she observed the woman from a distance, her mind already at work, trying to decipher her motives and intentions. Emma's heart pounded in her chest as she closed the distance between herself and the mysterious woman. The adrenaline coursed through her veins, fueling her every move. Her grip tightened around the knife, its cold steel sending a shiver up her spine. The wind howled around them, carrying with it the scent of burning rubber and smoke. It whipped through Emma's hair, tugging at the strands like an invisible force. The woman just barely caught sight of Emma in time, bringing her bow up in time to intercept Emma's knife!
Cayden tries to run over and help, but a mysterious white, sticky substance lands right in front of him. "Wow, I Thought you were gonna keep running. Watse of a good shot if you ask me." A new voice says.
Cayden's eyes narrowed as he scanned the area, trying to locate the source of the voice. His heart pounded in his chest, a surge of adrenaline coursing through his veins. The white, sticky substance clung to the ground like a spider's web, Cayden caught a glimpse of a Red blur seemingly flying down, landing on an SUV. A devious grin crosses Cayden's lips. "So even a Friendly Neighborhood Hero goes after some big money bounty?" Cayden asks the man in the red suit. "I'm not doing this for any bounty, I'm doing it to keep my city safe!" The masked man declares.
Cayden's lips curled into a mischievous smirk as he locked eyes with the man in the red suit. The atmosphere crackled with tension, a thrilling energy that sent a shiver down Cayden's spine. His mind raced with a mix of curiosity and excitement, eager to engage in this unexpected encounter.
"So you aren't in it for Big money bounty, huh?" Cayden's voice dripped with sarcasm as he took a step closer to the masked man. The masked man shrugs, suddenly not being so heroically composed. "I-I mean I could Use the money, sure, but..." Cayden then interrupts him. "I don't believe we've met."
"Oh, uh, my bad... uh, I think it's obvious, Y'know... I'm Spiderman, Hi." He says nervously, as if slightly thrown off by the social interaction.
Cayden's eyes lingered on Spiderman, studying the red-suited hero with a mix of curiosity and skepticism. He couldn't help but feel a flicker of amusement at the nerves that seemed to radiate from him like an invisible aura. The tension in the air was palpable as the two men stood facing each other, their gazes locked in a momentary standoff. "Name's Cayden. Glad to make your acquaintance... but can we just get this over with?" Cayden brandished his blade, ready for a fight... only this time, he seemed more of a cheery kind of anxious than a nervous kind of anxious.
Spidey and Cayden spent only one more moment staring each other down, before Spiderman made the first move.
Spiderman launched himself forward, his lithe body soaring through the air with a grace that defied gravity. The wind whipped against his face, tugging at the edges of his mask as he closed in on Cayden. His heart raced with a mix of exhilaration and determination as he aimed a swift kick towards Cayden's side.
Cayden's body reacted instinctively, his reflexes honed from years of training and combat experience. Cayden swung his blade, but Spider dodged effortlessly, whipping himself around and behind Cayden at breakneck speed.
Cayden's eyes widened in surprise as Spiderman effortlessly evaded his blade, using his agility and speed to maneuver around him. The air crackled with an electric energy as the two superheroes faced off, their movements fluid and precise. Cayden's mind raced, analyzing Spiderman's every move, trying to anticipate his next strike. His heart pounded in his chest, a mix of excitement and determination fueling his every action. "You're pretty good." Cayden admits, a smirk escaping the corner of his mouth. Spiderman responds, "Not that bad yourself. Although, I'm curious, why do you have a Sword Arm?" He asks. Cayden shrugs. "Long story. Fight now, Talk Later!" He says, kicking some debris up towards Spiderman. Cayden used this as a distraction, allowing him to close the gap between them and land his first punch on The Webslinger. Spiderman recoiled.
"Not cool, man!" Spiderman's voice was filled with a mix of frustration and agitation as he rubbed his jaw where Cayden's punch had landed. The taste of blood lingered on his tongue, a metallic reminder of the intensity of the fight. His heart raced in his chest, pumping adrenaline through his veins, fueling his determination to hold his own against this mysterious hero with the sword arm.
Cayden smirked, a glint of mischief dancing in his eyes.
Spiderman's jaw clenched in response to Cayden's taunting smirk. A mixture of annoyance and determination coursed through his veins, fueling his desire to prove himself against this enigmatic hero. He gritted his teeth, his muscles tensing as he prepared to unleash a barrage of attacks.
The air around them crackled with tension as Cayden and Spiderman circled each other like predators preparing to strike. They moved with an almost synchronized grace, their bodies poised for action. Spiderman lept into the air, firing a web at Cayden's right arm, sticking itself to the blade. "Gotcha!" He exclaimed. Cayden's smirk doesn't seem to waver, however. Spiderman then realizes something when his Spidey senses notice a Semi Truck crossing the interstate above them. "Oh, Crap..." He says as Cayden whips around a full 180 degrees before lurching his arm upwards, sending the webslinger flying upwards, perfectly timed to slam right into the side of the Semi truck! The hero crashed right through the side of it, as well as turning the vehicle on its side from the sheer force of impact.
The deafening crash of metal against metal reverberated through the air, shattering the silence that had settled between Cayden and Spiderman. Dust and smoke billowed out from the wreckage, obscuring their view of each other. Cayden's heart pounded in his chest as he surveyed the aftermath of their collision, a mixture of satisfaction and adrenaline coursing through his veins.
"Nice try." He says snarkily, beginning to turn away, thinking He'd taken down Spiderman... if only it were that simple.
Cayden's eyes narrowed as he turned away from the wreckage, a smug smile playing at the corners of his lips. He could feel the rush of triumph pulsating through his veins, an intoxicating blend of adrenaline and satisfaction. The world seemed to slow down around him as he surveyed the scene, taking in every detail with sharpened senses.
Spiderman groaned in pain as he slowly picked himself up from the wreckage, his body aching from the impact. "I'm not done with you!" He groans out, not ready to stay down.
Cayden turned around, a cocky smirk still etched onto his face as he faced the battered and bruised Spiderman. The air crackled with tension as their gazes locked, each refusing to back down. The taste of victory lingered on Cayden's tongue, fueling his confidence. He crossed his arms over his chest, his platinum blonde hair falling messily across his forehead.
"Give it up, Spidey. Don't make this harder than it has to be." Cayden oozes confidence in this moment, if only for a moment dropping his guard. A web shot out, landing on Cayden's chest, which Spidey used to pull himself forward at an incredible speed. Cayden's head snapped to the side as Spiderman's foot connected with a powerful kick, sending him hurtling to the ground. Pain seared through his skull like a red-hot poker, his vision momentarily blurred by a burst of stars dancing before his eyes. The taste of copper filled his mouth as he gritted his teeth against the agony, refusing to let it consume him. Cayden's mind raced, analyzing the situation even as his body throbbed with pain.
The taste of copper filled his mouth as he gritted his teeth against the agony, refusing to let it consume him. He struggled to push himself up from the ground, his muscles screaming in protest. The air around him was heavy with the stench of burnt rubber and gasoline, a testament to the intensity of their clash.
Spiderman seemed ready to web him to the ground. "You're not going anywhere! I can't allow you to hurt anyone el-" Spiderman's head jerks to the side, and he just barely manages to leap into the air in order to dodge a flying car door. "Who the hell?!"
Luke slowly walked towards the two, ripping another car door clean off as he marches in his direction. Spiderman doesn't hesitate, Swinging up to a wall and attempting to get the drop on him, only for the car door to be thrown with inhuman force, Missing Spiderman, but instead slicing his web.
