Chapter 16: Back at the North Pole

North, Tooth, Bunny, Cupid, the elves, and the yetis all had a funeral for Sandy, sad to have lost their friend. Afterward, Cupid flew up to the highest window of the workshop to clear her head.

North then went to check on Jack, who was at another window, frosting it to make an image of Sandy.

"Are you all right?" North asked.

"I just...I wish I could've done something," Jack answered.

"Done something? Jack, you stood up to Pitch. You saved us!" North pointed out.

"But Sandy..." Jack started.

"Would be proud of what you did," North finished for him.

Jack looked up at him before getting up and taking his hood off.

"I don't know who you were in your past life. But in this life, you are Guardian," North informed, putting a hand on Jack's shoulder.

"But how can I know who I am until I find out who I was?" Jack asked.

"You will. I feel it in my belly," North responded, making Jack chuckle, then North added, "You may want to talk to Cupid."

"Why me?" Jack wondered.

"You two seem to have a connection that's different than what we have with her. She needs someone with that to talk to right now," North answered.

He then pointed up and Jack followed the direction to see Cupid, sitting at the window while hugging her knees close to her chest. When Jack looked back to North, he was already heading back downstairs, so Jack flew up to Cupid.

Once there, he saw she was looking out the window with her head resting on her knees.

"Got room for one more?" Jack asked, making Cupid turn her head to him.

"Sure," Cupid nodded.

He then sat beside her as she looked back out the window for a minute.

"How you holding up?" he wondered.

"Been better," she answered, letting her legs go.

"Sorry I couldn't do anything fast enough," Jack apologized.

"Don't be, Frosty. You did your best. Plus that ice blast you did was awesome," Cupid told him, fully sitting beside him.

"Thanks," he chuckled then added, "And thanks for saving me when I was falling."

"Any time," she smiled.

Silence came back for a few seconds.

"You need anything from me?" Jack offered.

"I could use a hug if you're into that," Cupid answered.

"I can do that for you, Angel," he told her.

She blushed before gently wrapping her arms around his neck and he did the same but around her waist. They pulled each other close, her snuggling her face in the crook of his neck. This lasted for a minute before they eventually parted, their arms still wrapped around the other and looking into each other's eyes. They seemed to lean toward each other before they caught themselves, let go of the other, and cleared their throats with blushes dusting their cheeks.

"We better check up with the others on what we're going to do," Jack said.

"Yeah. Let's go," Cupid agreed.

They flew down to see the Guardians left at the globe where lights were going out.

"Look how fast they're going out," Tooth replied worriedly.

"It's fear. He's tipped the balance," Jack informed as he flew up to the top of the globe.

Cupid hugged herself as she felt slight fear of the Guardians not being believed in.

"Hey, buck up, you sad sacks! We can still turn this around! Easter is tomorrow. And I need your help. I say we pull out all the stops and we get those little lights flickering again," Bunny told them.

They all nodded in determination and set out to go to the warren.
