Chapter 7: The Revolt
As Prince Juvall walked through the town, he saw humans for the very first time. Some of the humans stared in fear, curiosity. He was a slighter smaller version of his father who they'd seen on their screens, yet he was the first they saw in person. Made the nightmare real for them.
Some were angry. Tried to confront him but he knocked them away with his giant fists easily or snapped at them. Ate them, he was ravenous. Most ran and hid inside their homes though.
The prince has never seen a type of species like this before and he was curious at first. But after seeing how most of the humans fled, he wasn't interested at all. Clearly, they'd be easy to overpower, and this planet would be nicer without them.
He'd done research so far on the vast terrains of Earth. It had so much potential and he couldn't wait to get rid of the humans and make the most of this planet.
Without worry of an uprising, he commanded his army to control different parts of the city. He walked around in a strong, metal, suit of shining armor. Though he only wore it because it made him proud. He wasn't particularly concerned or impressed by the enemy as he walked through the city, analyzing the people.
"Why hasn't this pathetic planet not been taken over yet?" Juvall asked. He shook his head and continued his evaluation.
Back at the White House, Spark saw the news and jumped out of his seat. He led his team outside. All except for Ace, who was left behind in the bathroom unaware of the situation.
Back in the city, Prince Juvall gobbled on a bloody, meaty, human leg as he watched his army take control over the city. "What an easy planet to conquer," he said to his generals. "This will be done in no time."
He reveled in the chaos, laughing as his army destroyed the nearby buildings. Some of the buildings were blown up, while others got smashed to the ground. Children and their families sobbed as they were rounded up, snapped at by the creatures, and taken to ships or housed in buildings taken over by the reptilians.
Of course, they wouldn't kill them all. They needed families to grow so they'd have a steady supply of food and slaves. The destruction was broadcasted on the news across the world.
As soon as Spark left the White House, he was bombarded by desperate screams. He ran, his team following behind as the spaceship loomed over them.
Spark was determined to save them all, but of course there was too much destruction and despair to stop it at once. So, Spark started with a burning building where he heard the initial screams.
As he was running, a large reptilian stopped him short. Juvall. Their eyes locked for a couple of seconds. Then Juvall's eyes flickered to the light peaking out through the group's clothing. He smiled. This was going to be too easy.
"I can see all of the shards you all possess," he said. "The shards you've stolen from us! I want each and every one of them back, whether I have to rip them right from your skin or not."
"We will stop you," Spark promised. "At all costs."
He sprinted towards Juvall at full speed for a full-frontal attack. Juvall disappeared right before Spark could land a hit on him. Spark looked up to see Juvall and started laughing.
"What a perfect opponent for me to challenge," Spark said, eyes wide with excitement. "Much better than that stupid simulator." He jumped up to Juvall and the battle began.
Ace tore out of the White House, confused and flustered as he looked for everyone. Furious that they left him behind.
He found out about the alien attack when he saw the news broadcast and had searched for his friends frantically before dashing out the door. Stumbling right into chaos.
As he looked to the north, he saw a billow of spoke in the air, calling to him like a beacon. He had these new powers. He decided it was time to use them. Time to play hero.
He sprinted to the location and found his friends already fighting the overwhelming amount of enemies. The power in their shards brought them together. Always meant to be a team.
Erika was looking through her scope from a distant building. A deadly sniper. She effortlessly landed shot after shot into the heads of the enemy army. Paying close attention to those who neared her team members.
Diana was on the ground. She grew vines through her palms. Used them to lash out and gather the enemies, trapped them in one place. The reptilians screamed as she slashed them with her whip like vines, beating them into submission. When they finally stopped moving, the plants engulfed the bodies and left their corpses wrapped up on the ground.
"Help!" I little girl cried from the burning building.
Ace started to run, but Diana reached up with her vines as flames leapt out towards the girl. The plants wrapped around the child, pulling her out before she could be burned. As she landed safely on the ground, she hugged Diana before she was ushered to safety.
Mark was also on the front lines doing what he did best. He would disappear and hit five enemies at once. He would intentionally allow himself to be surrounded, then lay a bomb on the ground and disappeared into thin air with a gold mist left behind. The enemies would stop in front of the mist, lost and confused. Then they would
start to hear a faint beep. Followed by a huge explosion that destroyed all the enemies in the area.
"Well, look who's late to the party," Erika laughed, as she came down from her tower to meet Ace on the ground.
"Yeah, yeah," Ace rolled his eyes. "Where's Spark?"
Erika pointed up to the sky. On the top of a nearby building, Spark and Juvall stared each other down, analyzing their opponent.
"I never get to fight the strong opponent," Ace grumbled. "Spark's always trying to be the hero."
"Hey man, just relax," Mark said. "There's plenty of enemies for all of us. The world is in danger, after all. No time for your pride."
Ace stopped ranting in time to see a section of the army running towards them. He ran to meet them in a fight. Bulldozed through the enemy fleet as they all flew in different directions.
Enraged, Ace watched Spark fight what he considered a more worthy opponent.
Spark ran back, to allow a little space between him and his opponent. Watched how he reacted. Then he got closer, tested out some close combat moves on Juvall to get a better understanding of his fighting style. Noticing that the combat was going nowhere, Juvall pulled out his swords.
"It's time to get a little more serious, don't you think," Juvall said.
Swords in hand, he started to speed up. Spark blocked with armor on the forearms of his suit, but within seconds, Juvall reached the parts left unarmored to allow free movement. Blood bubbled through the suit as the swords sliced through Spark's shoulder.
The pain shocked Spark, made him realize how serious this battle was. He channeled the energy from the shard. Focused just as he had practiced, and it responded. Spark felt stronger as he began to glow. It allowed Juvall to see the full power of Spark's shard, making him more determined to capture all the shards.
"Your diamond would go perfect with my electricity powers," said Juvall. He gripped his hand tightly and his hands began to emit electricity.
With Spark glowing a bright white from his inner energy, he dashed through the air as fast as sound. He landed a hit on Juvall that sent him flying across the building. He tottered on the edge for one, breathtaking moment. Then smashed to a shorter building. Spark jumped down after him.
Juvall was surprised by the pain this human was able to cause him. But he wasn't deterred. He and Spark were both equally determined to fight for their species, so they were a deadly match. He created an electric force that glowed around him, boosting his power.
Once it was as strong as it could be, he shot a shockwave at Spark. Spark dodged, but it was so close he could feel the heat as it barely missed his skin.
"Come on," Spark laughed, his pride ever getting him into trouble. Try again shrimp. You're missing everything."
Ace watched as shockwaves kept getting thrown in Spark's direction and missing their target. Yet as they grew stronger, multiple shockwaves headed straight for Ace. He dodged them as best as possible as he started getting bombarded with blasts, but they skimmed his skin. The last blast missed him by an inch.
"Hey, Spark," Ace yelled. "You should watch what you're doing."
Spark heard Ace and looked back to see the city getting destroyed. He realized how much damage was happening as he enjoyed this fight. There was a real, human cost to his pride. Master Zo had tried to teach them this all along, but it was first time the lesson really sunk in with Spark. He decided it was time to get serious.
Spark pumped into full charge as his inner energy glowed. He ran towards Juvall and disappeared right before he reached him. Leapt behind him. Spark landed a solid combo on the back of Juvall's neck, a fatal spot.
Juvall dropped from the building and fell to the ground, defeated. Spark jumped into the air with a victory cry. The enemy troops were confused as Juvall fell to the ground. Without their leader to guide them in this foreign planet, they all ran back to the ship where they had control.
"I never get to take home the victory for the team," Ace said, as he watched Spark celebrate.
Meanwhile, Spark heard a faint voice from the distance. He jumped down beside Juvall's body and found gloves glowing next to it. They started to glow in sync with Spark's shard.
In a complete daze, Spark put the gloves on and a static shock went through his body, gifting him with a new electricity power. In amazement, he ran to his comrades and showed them the new gloves and power he had gotten from his victory.
"This isn't fair!" Ace yelled, shocking them all. "I am fighting the next strong opponent and no one is standing in my way."
The team had grown used to Ace's outbursts, so after the initial shock, they walked away to let him calm down. They went back to Prince Juvall's body and did a quick search to see if they could discover anything else that was useful on him. They found some type of cargo key.
"I wonder what this is," Spark said, forever curious. As he reached for it, it morphed into a sort of wrist band that clamped around his forearm.
They soon found out they could teleport inside of the enemy ship, the wrist band transforming into a key when needed, then back into the discreet band. After seeing this, they began to plan different ways to invade the enemy's ships.
