Chapter 17: Ice cave

We all walked through the ice cave, weapons drawn, ready for a battle. After the whole ice grim encounter, we were paranoid about what would happen next. Red and I back to back, with Endar sticking close to Blake, and Yang, Weiss, Yin and Carth all behind us, covering the rear.

"Anyone see anything?".

"No, but put up a telepathic link just in case".

I felt the usual click go off in my mind, and everyone's thoughts came flooding in.

"Carth, tune it back! Tune it back!" I managed, everyone putting their hands to their heads

"Blake is so hot....".

"I hate ice caves...".

"When is carth going to ask me out!":

He quickly dialed it back so we could project what we wanted to say, and not everything at once, and he looked tired for a second, but I gave him a healing pill, and we kept walking.

"Man, it's been a month and you already are working on new ones?".

"Well Ospin was nice enough to let me use a actual facility, so I'm able to learn faster and better now" I said,

"Man, you sure are the master craftsmen".

"Blacksmith, engineer, potions master and pilot. Is there anything you can do?".

"Geometry. I can't do Geometry".

We laughed for a bit, and Jaune spoke up, saying "I can do Geometry".

Another round of laughter, with Blake asking him a question that made us all realize what Endar did.

"Endar you lifted Prryha, Nora, Ren, and Yang? With Nora shorting her Grenade launcher opposite the ground?".

He nodded, and said "why, did I drop someone?".

"No, just by my estimations, that's at least 800 pounds of force".

We all stopped, and turned to Endar, who simply sheathed his weapons and stared back at us.

"That's takes a lot of strength to do that".

He nodded and smiled. "Strength that could be use-".

"Don't even finish that sentence" Blake scolded, snaking his chest.

We all laughed as Endar got a moc sad face, and Blake rolled her eyes while cracking a half smile, and continued our walk.

"Anyone else notice it's to quiet around here?" Asked Yang, who was now turning 360 trying to cover all sides.

"Here we go, weapons ready Everyon-" I started, but I was cut off by the roar of a huge Ursa.

"Holly shit!".

"I got this!" Said Carth and Nora

"Wait watch your a-".

I was to late Carth shot his laser, and it bounced off the cave wall, and back at us.

Endar tackled Blake to the ground, saving them from the shot, and it bounced straight up, and cracked the ceiling.

Nora's shot hit the ursa, but it was to near the cave, and the entire thing began to crumble.

My sensor began to ping, and the cracked ceiling began to collapse.

"Look out!" I yelled, trying to make myslef loud enough to be heard.

Endar and Blake jumped forwards, Blake pulling him while Endar shot small debris to smithereens. Everyone else jumping back, and started for the entrance. Red tripped and fell on me, and my leg twisted.

"Bloody hell!".

My feet were facing the entrance, and the cave starting to collapse on us. I quickly grabbed her by the waist and pulled her on top of me, clicking my rocket boots with extreme pain and surging forwards, just barely being able to get out of the way in time. We flew past the cave in, and I launched my grapple hook at Endar and Blake, with him grabbing it and Blake, while I pulled both of them forwards with us. We slid across the floor until we were both next to each other, and took a breath.

"What the hell was that?" Screamed Endar, who was also on the ground, with Blake collapsed on top of him

"I don't know" I said, trying to hide the pain.

"You don't know? How does the great (Y/n) not know?".

"Just because (Y/n) has gadgets doesn't mean he knows everything. Even though you do, kind of know everything...." said Ruby, quick to defend me.

"True" Endar said, now calming down.

Ruby was still on top of me, and I blushed, along with her, as she rolled off and I got up, bringing her up in the process. I investigated the wall and scanned it with my scroll ultrasound.

"Thing says its 30 ft of solid ice, they are going to need a some serious firepower to get us out".

"Can't you just explode us out?".

"That would take to many pills, besides, that might cave this remaining space in. If anything, we would have a better chance in the morning, with more light, so I can fully know what I'm doing".

Just then, I heard Carth on the telepathic link.

"You guys alright?".

"We are all fine, but I twisted my leg".

"You alright?".

"I will be, but you need to get to Beacon. And it's a day trip, so start now".

"We aren't leaving you".

"Hey it's alright, we got enough supplies to last us. Now go, can't use up all your energy arguing a argument you can't win".

"Fine we will be back".

He cut the physic link, and Ruby was looking around the cave, getting a feel for the space. It was the size of a classroom, specifically one taught by port, but only the arena part.

"Let me take some reading to see if there is air space" I said, asking my wrist  computer to check, while also trying to filter in some healing pills to go to my leg, or at least some anesthetics.

"No need, I can hear wind through this cave" said Endar, searching around and finding a small airspace near the top.

"Good, now we need to compile supplies for the night".

Endar nodded, while I threw my bag down and opened it up, pulling out supplies we may need.

"I suppose you are suggesting that we set up camp?".

I nodded, and said "I told Carth to go get some professionals at beacon, which is a days flight to get there, back and dig us out".

"Alright, but it's day now so it's only going to get colder, what's the temperature now?" Asked Blake, who was fixing her bow.

"The temperature in here is to cold for us to sleep alone with one sleeping bag. But if we partnered up....".

"Oh" said Ruby, her blush deepening.

"Uh Endar I realize we are Bros but that's little, much"...

"Plus the bags will break if 2 big guys were in them".

"I suppose so..." said Blake, clearly trying to hide her devilish smile. (Get it? Because she read ninjas of love? And because she likes Endar? Eh you'll see).

Ruby then perked up, saying "so we partner up boy girl?"

I looked to Endar, who simply smiled at Blake, who proceeded to roll her eyes

"If you try anything....".

"Yes!" Said Endar, who immediately took of his jacket and gave it to the poorly dressed girl, who's jacket had been ripped from the cave in.

"There you go my love".

"Endar don't make this into a thing...".

"You know you want it to be.....".

I turned to Ruby, letting that conversation finish itself.

Winking at Red, her blush once again deepens slightly, and she said "taking lessons from Endar?".

I shrugged and said "I have been told I'm a very warm person".

I quickly promised I wouldn't try anything, to which she said She knew I wouldn't, leaving us both smiling. We then started a fire with the few supplies we had, burning the ripped coat of Blake, and finding a spare I had packed just in case, but for the moment, Endars jacket was fine, for the both of them. I managed to start a fire with the smallest burst from my rocket boots, and we made one big fire that would last a while, instead of several. We had food, though it was only popcorn, because Ruby brought it as a joke.

"Didn't think we would need it".

"I guess we do".

We ate in a semi silence, everyone clearly thinking about what would happen when nightfall came.

"So uh, what do you guys want to talk about?".

I shrugged, and asked Blake "how's that project of Goodwitch going?".

"It's going alright, I'm glad she gave me the reporting of PEACEFUL fawnus protest".

"Yeah if Cardin got it...." Endar began, his dust clenching.

"Which he did. But it's cool you got the paper for what the white fang was before it became a crime syndicate".

"They aren't a crime syndicate" blakes began, starring with a intensity into my eyes.

"Regardless of the politics, it's good you got the protests before the white fang...".

They continued to talk about the white fang and other things, while I turned to Ruby.

"So you want to talk about that new weapon idea you had?".

She had a huge smiled on her face, and pulled up her scroll, and the image she sketched and uploaded to it.

"So, I was thinking about cool hybrid weapons, and that's when I came up with this. A half greatsword, half flamethrower. Imagine the damage you could do with that!"

She scrolled to a picture of a typical 2 handed sword, but it was fuzzy, and to small.

"Here let me see your scroll, we can project it to the wall".

She placed her scroll into the projection slot, and I noticed that Blake and Endar were on the other side of the room, not quite in the sleeping bag, but close to it.

"Here we go, this".

The image was off a greatsword they had a metal pipe running through the middle, representing where the flamethrower part would go.

(Something like this, as a base)
This was clearly designed for up close and personal battles, and by my standards it was pretty good.

"Yeah it could burn a house down or something, but still it's really effective".

I remember wanting a flame thrower when I was younger, and then I finally got one, but the price of seeing them was my house, and most of my family being taken away by the women in flames.

"Hey you alright? You just zoned out for a second" she said, reaching for my cheek, but stoppping when she saw I was back to the land of the living.

"Sorry just, flame throwers and me aren't exactly on good terms. Not ever since...."

"Oh" she said, slowly resulting what I was referring to".

There was a silence, before she said "I'm sorry, it was a stupid idea anyway".

She went to reach for her scroll, but I stopped her, holding her from getting it. I stared straight at her, and she back at me, and I said
"No, I think it's a good idea".

"Really? Yay!".

Her usual smile returned, and she hugged me, before pulling away for a yawn.

"Guess we should go to bed?".

"Sure I suppose so"....

[1 hour later]

The fire was out, and I wasn't able to go to sleep. Ruby had woken up from being cold, and apparently so was everyone else.

"What can we do, we ran out of supplies to burn".

"I'm ccc-old" shivered Ruby, who had both her arms around herself. On her side of the bag.

"Well there is one way....." Endar started, but quickly cut herself off.

"What, come on, we are all freezing".

He was quiet for a moment, and said "it's drastic, but are you sure?".

"Positive".

"Well, as a method of conserving heat, people would......share body heat....".

The room was dead silent, and I turned back to Ruby.

"Do you......?".

"Do you......?".

"If you are....".

"If you're ok with....".

I put my hands in Ruby's, and said "hey, my jacket has a heating system, if you don't feel comfortable doing this, I can suffer the cold shirtless and you can wear it".

"No I wouldn't let you suffer the cold like that".

"But do you feel comfortable with this?".

She looked down for a bit, and then back up, saying "if it's with you, then yes".

I nodded, and took of my jacket, throwing it to the side for the moment, while Red took the top part of her battle skirt off, so she was only in her underclothes, for lack of a better term.

"Are you sure?".

She nodded confidently and said "yes".

I nodded back, and she cuddled into me, while I got the jacket back into the bag, and flipped the switch to the heating system. Since she was roughly 4 inches shorter then me, her head was lying against my chest, so she was basically able to feel me breathing.

"Good thing I saved everything before we left" I thought to myself.

"Hey Ruby, you alright?".

"Yeah, I'm fine" she said, her voice cracking, as if she was trying to hide something.

"You sure?".

I felt her head nod on chest, and did something I thought I would never do in a million years.

"Hey, if you need me in the middle of the night, just squeeze my hand alright?" I said, as I connected mine with hers, both our matching brackets touching. I felt a spark run though my body, and thank god it was dark, otherwise she would see my blush from my sudden bravery.

"I will".

"Don't get a boner. Don't get a Boner" is all I thought at the moment, but luckily I spoke up and avoided the feeling.

"Good, now we need some rest. Goodnight Red".

"Goodnight (n/n)".

"You know I hate that".

"That's why I use it".

I smirked when she said that, and secretly, I loved it whenever she called me that, but Im not going to tell her that. I closed my eyes, her already asleep on my chest, while my hand was interlocked with mine. Today was bad, today wasn't bad at all....
