Mun Ji-hun arrived on port in his home country, Korea. Ji-hun wore his world military leader armor as he got off the airship. He was in a terrible mood and it showed. There was a newspaper in his hand as he walked. Everyone got out his way as he went through the walkway.
He was almost to the street when another world military soldier, a scout, got in his way. The soldier wore a black top hat with his armor. It was an interesting sight.
"You're out of uniform, soldier," said Ji-hun.
The soldier made a face like he didn't know what Ji-hun was talking about, but then looked up at his hat. "You mean this," said the soldier as he flipped it off and turned around in his hand. "I feel the hat gives me character." The man took a bow, his hat on his stomach as he extended his other arm. "My name is Renz. It's a pleasure to meet a world military leader."
"Get rid of the hat," said Ji-hun. "You look like an idiot."
"Is that an order? Because I rather not."
Ji-hun couldn't believe the audacity of this soldier. "Are you a new recruit?"
"Brand new. I graduated from the academy last week."
"And they sent you to meet me?"
"That's right," said Renz as he took a straight stance and returned the top hat on his head. "They felt I'd be the perfect person for the job because of my relationship with the refugees. They really get along with me."
"I wonder why," said Ji-hun as he walked past Renz.
Renz quickly rushed in front of Ji-hun. "This way, sir," he said, gesturing towards a black car. "This is our ride."
Ji-hun followed him to the vehicle. "You'll drive, and take off that ridiculous hat." Ji-hun got in the back seat while Renz pouted by the driver's side.
Renz took off his hat and slid it into the passenger's seat through the open window. "Yes sir," said Renz as he got in. "Where to? Your hotel?"
"No," answered Ji-hun. "Take me to the scene of the crime."
"Which crime?"
Ji-hun tossed the newspaper he was holding in the passenger's seat for Renz to see. The newspaper was from yesterday and the headline read BROTHER AND SISTER KALLSTROM DESTROY A REFUGEE SHELTER IN KOREA. "That one."
"You're here for the Kallstrom attack?" said Renz.
"Have they been arrested yet?" asked Ji-hun.
"No."
"Then that's exactly what I'm here for. They really had no one else to send to assist me."
"No sir," answered Renz as he adjusted the mirror to look at Ji-hun. "The world military in Korea is currently busy with the Korean elections."
"I forgot they were electing the next leaders soon," said Ji-hun. "I've been so busy lately I forgot my country's politics. Wait, if this is an election year, why did Korea take in refugees?"
"Over my head, sir, but I think they did it to make you look good," answered Renz as he drove. "The people of Korea are very proud of their first world military leader."
"I didn't know."
"But I think you're right. This wasn't the time to take in refugees. The police and the world military are so busy with the election, they have no time to look after the refugees. Crimes against the refugees in this country are at an extreme high."
"Crimes against refugees are rising all over the world," said Ji-hun. "I don't understand it. These people lost everything and everyone else is treating them like trash."
"It's like kicking someone when they're down," said Renz. "Disgusting."
Ji-hun was surprised by Renz's comment. "Agreed."
"Sir," said Renz. "I know you want to look at the crime scene first, but can I suggest something?"
"What's that?"
"There's currently a protest being held by the refugees at one of the candidate's rallies. Maybe we should go there instead."
Ji-hun thought about the proposal. "Do you think something might happen at this protest?"
"That wasn't the first attack by the Kallstrom siblings. It was the first attack to be globally covered, but the siblings have been attacking refugees every chance they get."
Ji-hun straightened himself in his seat. "You think they might attack during this protest?"
"I think it's possible, sir," said Renz.
"Damn it," said Ji-hun. "I had no idea this was going on in my own country. How infuriating."
"Don't take it so personally. You aren't exactly this country's leader and you became a world military leader recently. Can't really expect you to be aware of every crime taking place here."
The two sat in silence for a while. "Take me to the protest," said Ji-hun.
"Yes sir," said Ji-hun as he took a left turn.
They arrived a block away from the protest. The streets were blocked and Ji-hun and Renz had to walk the rest of the way. The streets were littered with people who cheered for their chosen candidates.
As soon as the police noticed Ji-hun, they made way for him and Renz to get behind the barrier. "Is everything alright, sir?" asked an officer.
"Yes," answered Ji-hun. "I'm just here to observe."
The officer gave the world military leader a nod. Ji-hun and Renz continued their walk. Both men observed the crowd carefully, not finding anything out of the ordinary. They didn't stop until they spotted the refugees up ahead.
"It's strange," said Ji-hun.
"What is, sir?" asked Renz.
"That the refugees would be protesting."
"It's because of the way they are being treated. Of all the countries, Korea has had the most crimes against refugees and the most deaths."
"I can't believe it's that bad here," said Ji-hun. "I really should have known this was going on in my country."
"It's not your fault," said Renz.
"There isn't an excuse. I can't expect the world to help these people if I can't even get my country to do the same. I have to lead by example if I expect to make a difference."
"You're being too harsh on yourself. You're still only one person."
Ji-hun went towards the protesters, letting himself be seen by them. "I know what you are going through," he said in a loud voice so they could all hear him. The crowd went silent as they listened to the world military leader. "I didn't know the struggles you were going through in my country. We didn't bring you here so you could suffer more. We brought you here to ease your suffering and I promise for now on, I will prioritize prosecution against the people who commit crimes against refugees. I promise you will be safe in Korea."
The crowd cheered Ji-hun who stood proudly.
Renz smiled at Ji-hun as he pulled out his top hat and put it back on his head. "You would make a great leader," said Renz. "I mean a great leader as in a president, or maybe a king."
"Thank you," said Ji-hun. "And take that hat off. It's unprofessional."
Boom!
There was an explosion in the crowd of protesters. Ji-hun and Renz were thrown back by the blast. They quickly got back on their feet and looked into the crowd of protesters. There were multiple injured and some even dead. Ji-hun already failed in his promise.
Ji-hun gritted his teeth, but quickly regained his composure. There was chaos all over as he scanned his surroundings. He turned his attention to the distance, looking at high vantage points with a sight towards the protesters. He spotted a man on top of a parking garage staring at the chaos. Ji-hun could see what looked like a remote on his hand.
Without a word, Ji-hun was in pursuit. The police and world military soldiers were helping the injured. Ji-hun even spotted world military soldiers escorting who he had to assume were the candidates for president. There was too much chaos, no one paid attention to Ji-hun who in moments was at the parking garage.
Ji-hun slowed his pace as he walked through the middle of the garage. He didn't want the man who caused this to escape. Ji-hun scanned the area as he made his way up. Ji-hun was on the fourth floor when he found a car driving down.
There was no doubt in Ji-hun's mind that this was the man who caused the explosion. The man had a panicked look on his face when he spotted Ji-hun. He picked up his speed as he aimed his car at the world military leader. Ji-hun pulled out his sword and timed the car just right. In two motions, Ji-hun sidestepped the vehicle and slashed its tires out on the left side. The man crashed into a parked car.
Ji-hun pulled out his club as he approached the vehicle. The man managed to open the door and fall out. He didn't even get a chance to do anything else as Ji-hun put the club up to his head.
"Explain yourself," said Ji-hun as he held the club up to the man's face. "Who are you and why did you attack the protesters?"
"That wasn't me."
Ji-hun slammed his club on the car, smashing the door off.
"Alright, alright," pleaded the man. "It was me. Someone has to show those people they're not welcomed here."
Ji-hun smashed the club next to the man's head. "Who are you to say that?"
"Hey," said a voice from behind. He turned around just in time to see a woman strike him with an electric rod.
Ji-hun fell next to the man. He was in daze as electricity ran through his body. The woman kicked Ji-hun's sword and club away. She then pulled the man up to his feet.
"Thanks sis," said the man.
Ji-hun was beginning to get back his senses as he tried to pull himself up by the edge of the garage.
"That was a nice speech you gave there," said the woman. "But you shouldn't make promises you can't keep, especially when there's someone there to prove you wrong."
Ji-hun managed to get on his feet by leaning on the barrier of the garage. He looked at the man and woman carefully. They seemed to be around the same age. The woman had a serious look on her face while the man had a cheesy smile.
"You wanted to know who I was," said the man. "My name is Otto and this is my sister Mercy. We're here to fix the mistakes you've made."
"Now kindly get out of our way," said Mercy as she and her brother both kicked Ji-hun in the chest, pushing off the edge of the garage and down four stories.
