Ethan, Taylor, James and the kids are seen a block away from the collapsed bridge back in Manhattan. They're all seen trying to catch their breath. Ethan holds his chest as he feels it burning up, ignoring the pain the best he can he turns to the others.
"Is anyone hurt?" He asks them. The kids don't respond, as Alice looks at her younger siblings.
"... We're okay…" she tells him.
"I'm fine…" Taylor mutters. Ethan nods before turning to James.
"James… I'm… sorry but we need to move," Ethan turns to everyone else. "Godzilla is still out there. And it just cut off one of our exits, we need to find a new way out of here." He tells them.
James looks at Ethan, James walks over to his children and pulls them into a firm hug. With this, the kids began to accept the new reality and began to cry into their father's shoulders. No words were said as everyone silently mourned for Abigail…
----
The group is seen walking down the street aimlessly, unsure where to go. The group noticed many people raiding a small store.
James holds his children protectively, now afraid of anything happening to them any moment. Taylor is seen walking next to Ethan till he suddenly stops, and looks at the shop.
"Ethan? What's wrong?"
"Follow me." Ethan began to walk towards the store confusing everyone.
"Ethan, what are you doing?" James asks him, Ethan turns around and shrugs before continuing walking. The rest hesitantly followed him into the store. Ethan would make his way through the store with everyone else sticking close to him, as others stole items from the shop. He eventually leads them to the clothing area of the store, where things as hats, shoes, and other items are located.
"What size is everyone?"
"What why?"James asks.
"Because most of the people here are wearing dress shoes or heels." Ethan points out as everyone looks at their feet. Only Ethan wore his only pair of boots. Ethan grabs two boxes of shoes."James, grab you and the twins some sneakers."
"Come on kids," James grabs the twins hands and takes them to the kids section while Ethan looks at the shoes and checks the size.
"Alright, here Alice try these on. Taylor, sit down on the counter," he ordered them. Alice opened the shoe box to see black sneakers, she took off her shoes and slipped them over her socks, before standing up and walking around with them.
"Uncle Ethan, how did you guess my size?" She asks him.
"I don't know, I just grabbed a random box, glad to know it fits." He tells her, before opening the next box, pulling out a pair of green sneakers.
"Okay, here Tay, put these on,"
"Alright," she says as she takes off her heels before dropping them. She grabs the shoes out of his hands, before putting them on.
"Ow" she whispered, however, Ethan caught this.
"What's wrong?"
"I guess running in only my socks wasn't the best idea, I'm not injured, it just stings a bit," She explains to him. He then nods as the three head towards the TV's as they wait for the others. Everyone began to hear rumbling outside. Fearing the worst, everyone began to hide. That was until they saw multiple Military vehicles, such as the M1117, M1 Abrams and more, roll by.
"Was that the military?" James asks his brother as he and his children walk up to him.
"Yeah, it's best we avoid following them," Ethan states as he begins to walk out of the store.
"What? Why aren't they going to protect us?" Alice asks her uncle.
"Yeah, but focus on where they're heading, with heavy artillery tanks? They're probably heading towards Godzilla and trying to neutralize it. That's the last place we want to be," he explains.
"How about this? We should ask one of the vehicles if any bases had settled? That way, they can get us out of here?" Taylor suggested.
"I say we go for it. The military should be helping with the evacuation as well," James tells Ethan. Ethan scratches his hair before nodding. They begin to approach the sidewalk as more vehicles pass, when Ethan sees one armored truck driving by, he tries to catch their attention.
"Hey!" He yells, one of the soldiers looks at him, the truck pulls over as everyone from the store begins to walk out to the sidewalk. "Where is the nearest base?!"
One of the men turns toward his supervisor, who simply nods.
"Neighborhood Coalition for Shelter," The soldier tells them. "We stationed there, any civilians there will get medical attention, and we'll try to evacuate everyone from there."
"Understood," Ethan replies as he turns to his family and Taylor. "Alright, I know how to get there."
"What how?" James asks him."Don't you live with T-"
"No. And before you say anything, I'm not talking about it, plus there's no time anyway," Ethan tells him before thinking again,"I would normally take the train, but I have a general idea which way to go. We just need to head north for now."
"Wait, what section of the city is it located?" James asks him.
"Isn't it at the upper east side?" Taylor replies.
"Exactly, a bit of a long walk, but, that may be our best chance," Ethan tells the two.
"What if we take a car?" Alice suggests.
"A car?" The adults wonder.
"There's bound to be some unlocked cars here. I mean, people would've probably ditched them when Godzilla came by?" Alice points out.
"Wait…" Ethan says as he takes the thought in. "Damn kid, great thinking," he says as he messes with her hair before turning to everyone.
"Alright, everyone check each car! See if any doors are unlocked, and if the keys are still in, got it?" James tells them, as they all began to search for any available cars.
Lucy and Jake approach a red pickup and try to open the door, however it was locked. The two sighed in defeat before going towards the truck behind it.
Alice tries to open a silver sedan, which then opens. She began to search for a key, only to not find any.
"Well we wouldn't all fit anyway…"
Ethan finds a Honda odyssey in front of a restaurant. However, it seemed not only the doors were locked, but their keys weren't even inside.
"Hey, find anything?" Ethan asks James, who simply shakes his head.
"Nah, the only cars we did find, are too small to fit all six of us, are low on gas, or have no keys." James tells him.
"Hey guys I think I found one!" Everyone looks to see Taylor in the driver's seat in a black Chevy Van. Everyone them began to walk up to the van. "The back is filled with some tools we could move out of the way, and then we'll have enough room for all of us."
"What about fuel? And keys?" Ethan asks her, to which she responds by holding up the van's keys.
"As for fuel, we have about ¾ of the tank left," she explains as she looks at the gas meter.
"That's definitely enough to get us there." Ethan states. James then speaks up as he unloads the things from the back.
"Well, since we are going by vehicle now, there's gonna be a lot of blocked roads, by either streets filled with empty cars scattered, plain rubble from Godzilla or…"
"Godzilla," Lucy said as she held her twin's hand tight.
"Yeah…" Ethan muttered as he looked through the tools, as James had finally emptied the back.
"Come on kids, get in, The longer we stay here, the more likely we'll be in trouble," he tells them as he holds the door open for them. Once they got inside he got into the passenger seat, while Taylor hisses a bit as her foot still stung. " Hey, you alright?"
"My foot still stings, so I'm probably not the best driver right now. I think I'll stay in the back with the kids," she tells him. James nods as he and Taylor exit the Van. As they moved, James noticed Ethan finally entering the passenger's seat.
"What took you so long?" James asks his brother. Ethan takes out four flashlights from his pocket, multiple pairs of extra batteries, and a first-aid kit.
"Essentials," he simply says before passing a flashlight each to Taylor and Alice, as well as handing them some batteries. "It's better to be prepared if shit goes sideways, then to have nothing at all."
James silently agrees, before switching on the Van.
