Prologue
4.5 billion years ago, Theia, an astronomical body the size of Mars, impacted Earth. The origin of water is theorised to have begun with this event. All of the Earth's crust and upper mantle vaporised. Water vapour scalded the atmosphere in the form of clouds that rained almost all day and all night until there was the seas and the ocean, and only the seas and the ocean. What became of the water was a spring for life to evolve and adapt. No mammals, no amphibians, no reptiles. Only sea creatures with splendid beauty and variations in skin and deformities that marked an entire species. One race became the epitome of evolution. Humans.
But like the deformities that marked a species, humans had abilities that marked the tribes they associated with.
There were the wayfarers. Wayfarers have the ability to walk on water after a human defected and wanted to use their legs for something else rather than swimming.
This brings us to floaters. Floaters live underwater and can hold their breath for eternity if they want to.
Then there is the special tribe that so few are a part of. The compellers. They are known for their mysterious powers of manipulating the water around them and using it in dangerous ways that both the wayfarers and the floaters have abhorred from civilisation.
But each tribe of humans have weaknesses in their string of attributes.
Wayfarers cannot swim under the surface, no matter how much they try to pierce the waves.
Floaters die if they are exposed to the air for too long.
Compellers can't breathe underwater endlessly or walk on water, so they tread water their entire lives and sleep at risk of drowning once their eyes are shut.
Wayfarers and floaters can only meet with each other under freezing conditions because it is the only atmosphere that floaters can tolerate other than the water. Underwater stations, air-conditioned with liquid nitrogen, have been built for this exact purpose and are symbols of peace and prosperity in the darkness of the seas...
