Chapter 23

Edward's POV

Leonardo walks out of Desmond's room and sits down at the table.

"Is he okay?" Ezio asks.

"He will be fine," Leonardo replies, opening his sketchbook. He begins drawing, and we all lean back in our seats.

"I'm going to miss Desmond when we go back home," I say.

"I will too. I want us to all remember each other when we arrive home," Altaïr says.

"Don't worry, I have that covered," Leo says, still immersed in his drawing.

"What do you mean?" Connor asks.

Leonardo holds his finger up for silence and we wait patiently for about 10 minutes. Then, Leonardo grins and claps his hands together.

"Perfect!"

We all walk over and look at the drawings that he's done. There's one of each of us with Desmond, doing something together. In mine, Desmond and I are singing a sea shanty.

"We're playing dodgeball!" Altaïr says happily. I look, and sure enough, the picture is of Altaïr throwing a ball at Desmond. He was the one to get Des out afterall.

"I love it, Leonardo. These are wonderful," Connor says.

"You're welcome. Keep these with you, so when we go back home, we can still remember Desmond," Leonardo says.

"What about remembering each other?" Malik asks.

"Guys, I've got that covered," says a voice from behind us. We look and see Desmond walking down the hallway, holding a picture in his hand.

"What are you going to do, Desmond?" Ezio asks.

"Let me show you guys something," Desmond says, grinning.

We follow him into Rebecca's office over to a white machine. He lifts a lid and puts his picture onto a piece of glass. He then closes the lid, and Leonardo looks like he's about to faint.

"What is that?" he asks.

"Watch," Desmond replies.

He presses a couple of buttons and the machine roars to life. We all jump and step backwards in syncronization, which makes Desmond laugh.

"Look."

We watch in awe as six pieces of paper come out of the machine and sit in a neat pile.

"What are those?" Altaïr asks.

Desmond picks them up and hands them to Leonardo. He looks at them, and his eyes widen.

"Leo?" I ask. He grins widely and hands them out.

"Desmond multiplied them! Now, instead of one, there are many!" Leonardo says.

I take one and look at it. It's all of us in a group hug, grinning. I smile and look up at everyone.

"This is awesome! What is that machine called?" I ask.

"It's called a photocopier," Desmond replies, opening the machine's lid again and taking out the original copy. "Now we all have a copy to remember each other by."

"Let's bring this picture to life, shall we?" I ask. Everyone looks at me confused and I grab them all into a group hug.

We all laugh and group hug.

Leaving these guys will be impossible.
