Chapter 24 (from here on just chapter #'s)
Ripcurrent's POV
"Me? As in... me, me?" said Ripcurrent in shock, pointing one talon at his chest. Coral rolled her eyes.
"Very eloquent." she muttered. Ripcurrent barely registered her words. A prophecy about him? He wasn't important enough, and he didn't want it anyway. All he wanted was for all of this to be over... all this action, with parents and sisters disappearing, with bloodthirsty Skywing queens and strange dragons. All he wanted was to go home to the Kingdom of the Sea. All...
"Yes, you. I can explain," said the Nightwing, interrupting Ripcurrent's stream of thoughts.
"Those weren't really Skywings that attacked your parents. They were FlameWings. It used to be, millennia ago, that there were subtle differences between Skywings and FlameWings, such as the eyes. FlameWings were often also a darker, more blood red. You do still see some of those. But they have adapted to look exactly like a Skywing. And their Queen is very very angry. Even I do not know why. Destiny blocks it from me, so I cannot tell you. But her subjects are wreaking havoc on many of our dragons. She used to be a just and good queen... one of the best in Pyrrhia. But you must go and stop her. 'The current of the sea shall come of age...' that's you. I believe you become and adult dragon, no longer a dragonet, in a few weeks, am I correct? I thought as much. You and your three companions... I will leave those to you to figure out, though it isn't very difficult... shall travel to their kingdom. You must find their island yourself, though I can tell you that it would be best to start from the Nightwing volcano. The rest shall fall into place. Good luck." He began to retreat back into the shadows, but Glory hissed and bared her fangs at him, stopping him in his tracks.
"You wouldn't dare to spray venom at me," he said, but he didn't seem sure.
"I most certainly would, to protect my tribe and my friends. Now, who are you? Why should we trust anything you say? And why is this even happening, why these dragons, maybe not dragonets anymore but still so young? Why is this queen so angry, and why does it relate to us?" Glory said in concern.
"I will not tell you who I am. That has been my closely guarded secret for thousands of years. No one shall ever know that. You should trust me because you don't have another choice. This will happen if you use my information or not. It's a prophecy, it will come true. But maybe trust me because I knew your prophecy, and I know you. I know you, Queen Glory of the Rainwings. I know your great love of Deathbringer. I know how hard sometimes you try not to show who you are, and what you feel. And I know there are a few dragons you trust more than anything in the world. That is why. As to why you,I don't know." And with that, he backed up into the dark. This time, Glory didn't try to stop him. She was just quiet. Finally, she spoke.
"Let's get you two back to the village. You've had a long day." Between Glory and Coral, they were able to lift Ripcurrent and fly out of the cave. As they began the trek back, Coral and Ripcurrent spoke in hushed voices behind Glory.
"The star, the reef, and the breaker of days..." said Coral quietly.
"You must be the reef. Like, Coral reef. The star must be Seastar. I don't know about the breaker of days. Maybe Seastar will know something," said Ripcurrent. Coral said nothing and merely nodded, and they walked the rest of the way in silence. When they arrived, they were accosted by several dragons (namely Tsunami, Riptide, and Seastar) about where they had been the last several hours. Glory explained everything. When she finished, there was shocked silence. Then-
"Ripcurrent, there's no way we can let any of you-" said Tsunami, cut off by Glory, saying
"Tsunami, you have to. Us of all people should know there's no stopping it. It'll be worse if you try to prevent it. I don't like it any more than you do, but it has to happen." Tsunami bowed her head, knowing that Glory was right.
"Now," said Ripcurrent, "does anyone know who would be "the breaker of days?" Slowly, from behind Seastar, Promisebreaker stepped out into the twilight, silhouetted by the setting sun.
"It's me. Don't ask me why. It's my own secret, but it's in the past. Someday," he said, directing his gaze at Seastar, "I'll tell you. But for now... please just trust me." Ripcurrent paused, then nodded. No one said anything. Then they all dispersed, setting off in different directions.
Ripcurrent lay in his hammock that night, trying to sleep. He was really scared, for himself and his sister but most of all Coral. However... he did have a few days to figure things out before he came of age. Well, he thought tiredly, I'll figure it out when the morning comes. It'll be easier then. And with that, he fell into a full and restful sleep.
