≪ Chapter 6 ≫
No One's POV

"Homework is due tomorrow, so please make sure it's done," Hamako-sensei announced, gathering her books. "Please stand,"
"Hai. Arigato gozaimasu, Hamako-sensei," the class chorused, standing up.
"You may be dismissed. Have a nice day, everyone," she smiled, waving before heading out.
Not wanting to stay inside any longer, Hikari quickly packed up and rushed out, hoping to not bump into any 'unneeded creatures' on the way out, which (fortunately) didn't happen.
Checking her phone while walking, she saw that she had received a text from her friend.
To: Ayu-chan!
Fr: Tadashi~ (•u•)
Subject: wait up!
there's no practice today, so could you wait for me and tsukki at the gates please? thanks
To: Tadashi~ (•u•)
Fr: Ayu-chan!
Subject: okay
will do. don't keep me waiting too long though, ive got lots of hw haha (*^^*)
Placing her phone back in her pocket, she turned a corner and skipped down the steps of the school building, reaching the ground floor in no time.
She had then approached her shoe box, taking off her school shoes before slipping on her regular black sneakers, which were quite beaten up from always using them.
But she didn't mind; as long as she had shoes, she was grateful.
Walking towards a bench, she then sat down and waited patiently for her two friends.
In no less than five minutes, she had spotted a splash of seaweed green hair and a very tall blonde heading towards her; she stood up and offered a friendly wave, which was returned by the nicer one of the pair.
"Thanks for waiting, Ayu-chan," Yamaguchi spoke up, "shall we go now?"
"Let's," she answered, standing up and gripping the handle of her blue bag. (It was a present from Yamaguchi, which he had also given Tsukishima, but in the color of red. He had one of his own, which was green, and now they had matching bags. Hilarious.)
The blonde stayed silent, shifting his gaze from the two of his friends to what had lay in front of him, ready to start heading home.
The trio started off, walking in a comfortable silence, the silence they had usually shared with each other during walks home.
When they reached Hikari's house, which wasn't very far from the school, the two boys bid their farewells.
"Sayonara, Ayu-chan! We'll be on our way now!" the freckled teenager waved.
"Sayonara," Tsukishima muttered, looking at the girl with a bored look, something the other two were used to seeing.
"Thanks for walking me home, guys. See you tomorrow!" she called back, turning the doorknob of her home.
Closing the door behind her, she mumbled a small "Tadaima," before slipping off her shoes and heading towards the stairs.
"Okairi," her mother greeted from the living room. "Your father is out w—"
"I know, I know. They'll be back when?"
"Later. In time for dinner. You know how they are,"
"Yeah. Anyways, I'll be upstairs. Call me if you need anything, because I have a bit of homework and studying," Hikari informed her mom, climbing the stairs.

"Ayu!" came the screams of her mother, which sent the brunette rushing out of her chair quicker than you could imagine.
"Yes, kaachan? I kind of was in the middle of homework," Hikari answered, walking out her room.
"Freshen up then head to the grocery. I have a short list of things to buy," her mom instructed, tidying up the living room. "You can do your homework after dinner,"
"Hai, hai," the teenager nodded before heading to the bathroom to get dressed.
Grabbing her favorite grey sweater and a pair of white shorts from the dresser, she walked inside the bathroom and shut the door.

Walking towards Shimada Mart with earphones plugged in her ears and music playing at an average volume, Hikari took a brief look at the list in her hands, which, to her dismay, was not as short as her mother had stated.
Sighing, she stepped inside the shop, only to be greeted by a rush of air and the smell of the grocery, as well as an "Irashaimase!" from Shimada-san himself from the counter.
"Konnichiwa," she waved back at him with a small smile, taking off her earphones and placing them in her pocket, along with her phone.
"Need help?" the friendly store owner asked.
"Just a basket," she nodded, giving off a sheepish smile.
He stood up, grabbing a metal basket from the stack, handing it to her. " I'll leave it to you, then," he replied, turning back towards the counter.
"Okay," she huffed, eyeing her list while walking along an aisle. "Carrots. Potatoes,"
She looked for the produce section and snatched what she needed and put them in her basket, scanning what was next on the list.
"Cereal," she mumbled, scanning the other aisles until she found her desired item, which she decided to grab from the shelf.
She tried to pull it off the rack, but someone had pulled it toward them instead, making her look up and apologize quickly.
"E-Etto... Gomenasa— Sugawara?!"
"Hikari? What are you doing here?" the silver-headed setter looked at her in confusion, both still holding the cereal.
"Like you'd care. I'll take that," she hissed, yanking the box right out of his hands.
"I saw it first, get your own box," he fought back, snatching the box again from her grip.
"Excuuuuuuuse me? I was here first, jerk," she refused, getting the box yet again.
"As if," Sugawara laughed sarcastically, glaring at her, reaching for the cereal one last time before Shimada spoke up from nowhere.
"Hey, hey! What's the commotion here?" the clerk asked, putting his hands on his hips.
"She started it!" Sugawara pointed, then raising his hands up as if to say he was innocent, "I just needed some cereal!"
"Trashface over here grabbed it back! I was first," Hikari defended, shooting daggers right at the other teen's eyes.
If looks could kill, he'd definitely be dead twice– no, thrice over.
"Are you kidding?" Shimada sighed, mentally facepalming. "Can you please not fight in my store? You're disturbing the other customers!"
"Gomenasai, Shimada-san. It was extremely rude and immatur—"
"Oh please, Sugawara. You're just doing that to get people to think you're so nice. Get a life," Hikari spat, "gomenasai, Shimada-kun. I'll just continue looking for what I need,"
"Maa, you two can be really childish sometimes." Shimada pushed up his glasses. "If I catch you two fighting again... you won't hear the end of it. Got that?"
"Hai..." the two nodded in defeat, still pissed with one another.
Hikari continued on her way, starting to hurry with her shopping, really not wanting to stay near Sugawara any longer.
"Stop following me," she hissed, turning around with a glare.
"I'm not," he defended, "the things I need happen to be over there,"
"Go look for something else. Don't stay close to me," she muttered, utterly discomforted.
"Rude. This is a public place," he spat, standing his ground.
"Yeah, but I'm pretty sure you don't want to stay close to me either," she pointed out.
"Who says I don't?" he smirked, stepping forward.
She stepped back. "Gross. What are you implying?"
"What if I wanna stay close to you to make you uncomfortable?" He took another step.
"You do realize that I can easily yell and report you to the authorities?" she tells him, getting severely pissed.
"Relax. Don't think so low of me. I may hate you, but I have the decency to respect personal space," he sighs, turning around.
"Hell yeah you should. Now go away,"
"I hope you break your hands so you don't get to top in class anymore," he shot, "you don't deserve it,"
He had instantly regretted his words once he had saw the girl turn around.
Her fingers trembled, subtly, but not too much that he couldn't notice it.
He felt remorse, and mentally slapped himself for saying something so stupid, even if he did half mean it.
"S-Shut up," was all she could muster before walking off, really not wanting to stay near him anymore.
Don't you dare let him see you vulnerable, Ayumu, she thought, hurriedly grabbing the rest of the stuff she needed before heading to the counter to pay.
Without a word, she loaded her items on the counter to be put in a plastic bag, glad to see that Sugawara had already left.
"That'll be ¥1523, please," Shimada told her, packing up the groceries.
As she placed the money on the small tray in front of her, she noticed the clerk put a box of cereal inside the plastic bag.
"Wait," she said, "didn't Sugawara get the last box?"
Shimada sighed, "he paid for it and told me to give it to you for some reason. He left a note, too,"
"Oh," she mumbled, "just put it there, then."
After paying for everything, she thanked Shimada and headed back home, still a bit shaken by the encounter that was really uncalled for.

"You look, tired. Anything wrong, dear?" her mother asked, taking a bite of her curry.
"Oh, nothing. Just school, is all," Hikari replied, also placing a spoon of curry in her own mouth.
"Ah, I see. By the way, I've been meaning to ask. Doesn't Sugawara-san also study at Karasuno?" Namika pressed on, curious.
Hikari stopped, and then sighed, "Unfortunately,"
"You really never ended up getting along, have you? It was really more of I-"
"Daijobu, daijobu. I have my own friends," she quickly cut her mother off, slowly getting uncomfortable at the topic.
"Of course,"
"Uh... yeah,"
Quickly finishing up her food, she then stood up. "A-Anyways, I have some homework that I still need to finish. Gochisosama, kaachan,"
"Ieie. Go do your homework now, and I'll take care of dishes tonight,"
"Hai, hai,"
Trudging up the stairs, the brunette headed to her room, a small piece of white paper on her desk catching her eye once more.
Pulling back her chair, she stared at the paper, debating whether or not to open and see what's inside.
"Why would I need to hear from him, anyways?" she muttered, throwing it in her empty trash can.
Grabbing her notebook and her pencil, she started her homework where she left off, trying hard to focus.
But alas, she couldn't keep her mind off the note that was given to her.
Grumbling to herself, she picked up the paper from the trashcan, opening it up and reading it.
Gomen, I think I went too far.
-Sugawara
She crumpled it up fully, throwing it back in the garbage, where she thought it belonged.
"I don't need his apologies."
