Chapter 4

No One's POV

● • ● ☁︎ ● • ●

Lazy feet dragged a certain teenager's body to the front gate of his friend's home, the sun already up, headphones being placed comfortably back to its usual spot around his neck.

Pressing the doorbell twice, just to be safe, Tsukishima had waited outside, hoping someone would answer soon; it was hot outside. (Although he knew he couldn't blame the sun for radiating too much heat, he was close to cursing it.)

Fortunately for him, he received a response just after a few moments. "Ah, Kei-kun? Is that you?"

"Hai, Namika-okaasan," the blonde nodded.

"Come in, come in," the older woman had smiled warmly, gesturing for him to come in, "Ayumu-chan isn't ready yet,"

"Ojama shimasu," he bowed, walking in the front door and leaving his shoes by the door.

"Ah, no need to be so polite, Kei-kun. You're like family to us, don't worry about it," Namika assured him, leading him to the kitchen. "Have a seat,"

"Thank you. Is Ayu-chan gonna be ready soon?" he asked, not wanting to disturb his friend's family for too long.

"My, my. Teenagers these days, can't wait to go on their little dates hmm?~" she chuckled heartily, making Tsukishima flustered more than he would have wanted.

"Please don't think of it that way, okaasan," he answered, scratching his head.

"I know. Just playing with you," she replied, "oh, that child of mine. I woke her up at seven, but she insisted that she was given a few more hours of rest. You see, she stayed up late last night to finish one of her animes again,"

Tsukishima let out a small laugh.

Seriously, Ayu, he thought, what happened to sleeping early?

Pushing up his glasses, the sound of heavy footsteps echoed throughout the place, making both heads turn towards the stairs.

"Okaasan? Is Kei there already?" Hikari called, rubbing her eyes.

"He's been waiting here for a long time already, Ayu! Move a bit faster!" her mom answered in a scolding tone.

"Gomenasai," she apologized sleepily, grabbing her back from the counter.

"Ohayo, Ayu," Tsukishima greeted lazily, throwing on one of his signature bored looks.

"Ohayo, Kei," Hikari waved, flashing a small smile.

"Well, you two have fun now. Be back by 5, okay? Please take care of her, Kei-kun," Namika smiled once again, leading them back to the front door.

"Jaa, ne, okaasan. Love you," she kissed her mother goodbye, putting on her sneakers after.

"Shitsurei shimasu," Tsukishima said, bowing.

The two headed out in a comfortable silence, on their way to Yamaguchi's home to pick him up.

Chatting right behind the yellow line at the train station, the three were rather excited for the day and what was to come.

"Where should we head first?" the freckled teen questioned his other friends as they headed onto the not-too-crowded train.

The door shut behind them as they found open seats near the entrance, where they comfortably sat together, glad that trains in Miyagi weren't as crowded as those in Tokyo.

"Well, Sendai is a huge place," Hikari stated, "so it's either we head to a mall or eat lunch already,"

"It's 11:34, so I'm sure that most of the shops are already open," Yamaguchi replied, "but I think it would be good if we headed to Jozenji-dori first,"

"And what are we going to do in Jozenji-dori?" Tsukishima asked, as if he preferred just staying home.

He didn't even know why he agreed to this in the first place.

"I don't know, stroll around there like we always do when we go to Sendai?" Hikari answered, a bit disappointed at her friend's disinterest in the whole trip.

"And then what?"

"We can stop at the Sendai Mediatheque," Yamaguchi suggested, "and I heard there's a new music shop that opened, so I'm sure you won't mind, Tsukki,"

"Don't decide on what I'll mind and what I won't," the blonde shot back bluntly.

"Gomen, Tsukki,"

"Kei, you're such a jerk." Hikari crossed her arms.

"Whatever," he muttered, reaching for the phone in his pocket.

I'll probably stop by that music shop later, he decided.

The three friends walked in silence, the silence you'd expect when there were beautiful trees to admire all around you, each of them gaping at the breathless sight.

Although Tsukishima would never admit it out loud, he found their stroll to be more relaxing and fun than he'd thought, watching his friends walk amongst the seemingly endless road of huge trees.

A subtle yet cold breeze danced in the air, most of the crisp mix of green leaves drifting away helplessly to the floor.

Jozenji-dori didn't have the April cherry blossoms that most other places had, but its Zelkova trees were just as lovely, a true and unique charm of Sendai.

There were quite an amount of tourists, considering April was one of the most famous months for visiting Japan, but that didn't stop the three from having a great time.

Tsukishima pictured what the street of Jozenji-dori would sound like, if it had a melody, just for the fun of it.

After all, the said blonde was into music, though he'd rather play the rhythm in his head rather than aloud, for that would attract way too much attention.

Deciding that the perfect tempo for the setting would have been Andante Moderato, he tried to think of something that was in that beat.

He stopped.

Since when did he become such a musical person?

Surely he was much more interested in a lot of things other than music, and just where'd he learn about tempo?

Tsukishima wondered about such things, getting so lost in his own thoughts that he had forgotten his friends were even there, thus getting quite the shock when Yamaguchi told them they should sit down on one of the benches.

"It's really pretty this time of year, isn't it?" Hikari commented, admiring the scenery with a smile.

"Sou, da ne? Although we should visit again in September, when fall comes 'round. You know what happens then," Yamaguchi agreed, nudging her a little.

"That's right," she nodded, "we should visit again in September. Right Kei? Speaking of which, I'm so sure you'll be thrilled for that time,"

"Oh shut up," he mumbled, hiding the fact that he indeed was excited to go back during fall.

"We all know you're excited. No point in hiding that," the brunette chuckled to herself.

He decided to ignore her comment, changing the subject. "What time is it anyways? I'm getting hungry,"

"Well, it's nearing 12:30, so we should start walking to the Sendai Mediatheque. What do you guys wanna eat?" Yamaguchi asked, standing up.

"I'm up for torikatsudon," Hikari said, punching a fist into the air excitedly.

"Anything, really," Tsukishima answered.

"Torikatsudon it is," Yamaguchi announced, already walking, the other two not far behind.

Tsukishima finally put down his chopsticks in satisfaction, delighted at the great-tasting meal, while Hikari and Yamaguchi were stuffed full as well.

"That was great," she bellowed, the freckled teen nodding in agreement.

"I guess," the megane yawned, "should I ask for the bill?"

"I'll pay this time," Yamaguchi offered.

"No, no! Let me," Hikari argued, assuring her friend.

"Don't worry about it, Ayu-chan! I can play this time." He shook his head.

"Please let me, Tadashi," she insisted.

"I'll-"

"It's o-"

"Don't-"

"I insi-"

"Jus-"

"Tadas-"

"Would you two quit it? I'll pay if you'll stop arguing," Tsukishima interrupted, slightly annoyed.

"Fine..." the two nodded in unison and defeat.

After paying for the food, the trio headed out the restaurant, small talk being shared here and there.

They decided to stop by the music shop, then the bookstore, before heading out and back to the station.

Trudging towards the music shop, no matter how hard Tsukishima tried to keep it in, his excitement radiated off of him like sun rays (or should I say, moonlight), making his two other friends chuckle.

Seeing the megane like this was quite the interesting change of scenery, which only happened during very rare occasions.

He wondered if his wallet was going to survive in there, knowing he'd buy a lot.

Stepping in the store, which had posters of famous bands and artists on the wall, Tsukishima quickly headed to one of the shelves, scanning the rows for good albums.

Meanwhile, the other two couldn't help but get entertained at the sight of the seemingly mesmerized middle blocker pulling much of the tracks on the shelf.

Time passed quickly, and before they knew it, Tsukishima was satisfyingly carrying a package of different albums towards the bookstore.

"There it is!" Hikari yelled excitedly, dashing to the bookstore, her backpack flopping from side to side as she jumped in, already knowing where she was going.

Yamaguchi decided to check the fiction section, while Tsukishima decided to follow Hikari, just to make sure she wouldn't go over the top because of a new issue of some manga.

"It's been released! They've all been released!" she squealed, snatching a few copies of manga from the shelf.

He wasn't in any position to tell her to not obsess and get everything, so the blonde decided to keep his mouth shut, almost (almost) looking at his paper bag with guilt.

A few minutes had passed and his friend had about five books in her hands, heading to counter, fishing through her bag for her wallet.

Seeing her so carefree with such a smile on her face somehow put Tsukishima at ease, knowing how happy she'd be once she got home to read them.

Despite the fact that she was older than him, he couldn't help but think that she acted like such a child when it came to this.

And at that moment- he realized that he should look out for his friends better, for he could never predict tragedies.

Looking out for someone who's older than you, he sighed in thought, what a cliché.

The train ride home was comfortably silent once again, the three quite tired from their trip together to the lovely Jozenji-dori, a truly memorable trip for even the usually bored Tsukishima.

Leaning back, the blonde eyed his best friends, who had their eyes shut, which he guessed was from tiredness.

It was the days like these that he'd admit (though only to himself) he enjoyed, just a calm day with the ones he held close to his heart, everything seemingly in place for the moment, not needing to worry about much.

Perhaps one day, he'd tell them that he really loved the days like this one.

He winced.

His inner pride was just too important for them to know he was soft for days like these.

Tsukishima decided, he'd just keep it all to himself.

Or probably, subtly, ask them if they'd like to eat strawberry shortcake.

Not like he minded paying.
