≫ Chapter 1 ≪
Hikari
--
I am sure that in this world, there are many people who can easily piss me off.
I'm not too proud of the fact that someone can easily and effortlessly bring my mood from 100-0 in a matter of seconds.
My short temper often results in thousands of careless mistakes I have made, none of which I can fix.
But that's okay.
Because I am nothing but a small speck of salt in this ocean.
I am fragile, I am weak.
I am not perfect, and I will never be.
It is guaranteed that I will make an infinite number of mistakes in the future, nothing can change that fact.
But that, too, is also okay.
Maybe someone else will understand who I truly am, and love me for it.
No matter how trifling this speck of salt really is.

No one's POV
She let out a huge heap of air, slowly opening her eyes to a new day, strands of her messy mousse-colored hair all over her pillow.
Her fingers were brought up to her eyes, rubbing them groggily, her mind still not fully awake.
Three-fourths of her were already up, but the remaining one-fourth hadn't realized that it was already time to wake up.
As she blinked back a few times, trying to snap into reality, Hikari grabbed her phone which was sitting atop her night desk.
Checking the time which was currently 4:53 AM, her eyes shifted from her phone to her window, where behind a layer of glossy glass was nothing but darkness.
She switched her phone off, placing it carefully back in its position before she had gotten it.
Her body slipped up and out of bed, snatching her uniform on her dresser before entering the bathroom to get ready for the day.
As she brushed her teeth with no sense of gracefulness at all, her eyes started to droop down once again, her hand slowing down.
All movements in her body just seemed to stop as she fell asleep right in front of the mirror, toothpaste bubbles dripping out of her mouth and onto the sink.
BEEP! BEEP!
Hikari jolted up, blinking back, her hands moving once again as she walked to her night table to see what was up with her vibrating phone.
It was just her 5 AM alarm, just in case times like these had happened, her accidentally dozing off while in the bathroom.
She shut the alarm off, heading back to the bathroom to complete her morning routine.

She walked to school with a piece of toast in her mouth, the sun's rays slowly seeping into the country.
It was still really early, but she didn't mind.
The dawn of the day had always left Hikari in a good state, seeing as she was able to see such a beautiful sunrise and not have to worry about rushing during what could have been a good morning.
She passed by a small cafe on her way to school, sitting down at a table for it was still an hour and thirty minutes before school had actually started.
Taking out a manga from her bag, she flipped through the pages to find her bookmark sitting comfortably on the one of the pages.
A waitress had approached her and asked to take her order in all polite manners, so Hikari ordered a milkshake.
Without further ado, the waitress rushed back inside the kitchen and notified one of the people there to get working on the order.
Hikari continued reading, her mind slowly wandering away from reality and into the fictional world she held in her own hands.
This often left the girl dreaming helplessly of her and the 2D world, her thoughts dancing through her head.
Her hands flipped page after page, her eyes scanning the ink on the paper as quickly as she could.
The manga had her deeply absorbed.
After minutes of reading, probably ten or fifteen, the waitress came back and placed Hikari's milkshake on the table.
She thanked the waitress and marveled at the sight of the drink in front her.
With whipped cream topping the chocolate shake and two sticks of a wafer treat on the side, the girl sipped her drink, her eyes not leaving her book.
Oh how Hikari adored her mornings, making sure that every one was a delight because she knew that starting the day right would help her, even if the rest of the day wasn't like she wanted it to be.

Her shoes collided with the concrete beneath her feet as she let out a heap of air, clutching the strap of her bag tightly.
She now stood in front of Karasuno High, where she knew she'd spend another year in.
She took a deep breath, and her leg was ready to take the next step.
"Dramatic, now aren't we?" a teasing voice chuckled in her ears, making the brunette flinch in surprise.
Hikari turned her head to the side to see a smug-looking blonde, who wore a smirk on his lips.
"Get out," she hissed, hitting the megane on the head.
"Is that how you treat a friend, Ayu-chan?" Tsukishima pouted jokingly.
"Oh shut up, Kei. Thank you for ruining my morning," she sighed, smoothening out her skirt and starting to walk.
The blonde followed her, his smirk of satisfaction still not leaving his face. "So, what have you been up to? Why were you absent on the first week? That's not very Ayu of you,"
"Like you'd care, blunt idiot." She rolls her eyes, folding her arms and looking forward.
"Hmm, if you say so, chi-bi-chan," He nodded, looking at her petite frame.
Her eyes darted through his; he could feel the self-conciousness those orbs felt, a hint of guilt running through his veins.
She huffed and continued walking in utter silence.
"Geez, you're so sensitive. Sorry, Ayu," Tsukishima sighed and apologized.
"I was sick. I caught a cold," she explained hastily, looking annoyed.
"Wow, you never take care of yourself. Much expected," he smirked.
"You're annoying."
"Not as annoying as you,"
"I really question our friendship. Why did I have to carry the burden of being friends with Tsukishima Kei?" She sarcastically pouted and put a hand on her forehead.
"Tch, stop that. You're an ugly actress,"
"How mean. Ugh, you suck, Kei. Oh and by the way, where's Tadashi?"
"Probably overslept,"
The two stopped at the shoebox area, taking their school shoes from the cubby and exchanging them for those on their feet.
Tapping her shoes on the ground and adjusting them to fit comfortably, she carefully put them on while watching her friend as well.
With 20 minutes before class starting, Hikari followed Tsukishima to the gym, where he said that had to submit some papers for the volleyball team.
As the two friends walked toward the gym, they noticed a peculiar scene right at their destination.
Just by the steps of the doorway were two other students, glaring coldly at each other.
Their mouths had emitted no sound, but their piercing looks had left a signal of very high tension between these two.
Not even noticing that she and Tsukishima were standing in front of them, they continued staring at each other angrily.
"Move it," Tsukishima ordered, folding his arms irritably.
"Make me," one said, his deep voice echoing through the blonde's ears, starting to make him get even more pissed at the situation.
"Well if it isn't the King of the Court," he smirked, pushing up his glasses, his lips forming a smile.
"Don't call me that," the boy demanded with an almost-scary tone in his voice.
"Huh? No need to be so harsh to us commoners," Tsukishima put a hand to his cheek, waving his hand up and down sarcastically.
"Y-You should probably take that back, Tsukishima-san," the other said, stuttering and shaking from fear.
"Kei! Don't be so rude!" Hikari hissed, turning to the two boys and bowing in apologies.
Just then, the gym door slid open, revealing one of the people in the gym. "What's going on here? Hinata, Kageyama, you'll make Daichi mad agai-"
The voice's owner had stopped mid-sentence, raising a shaky finger, too shocked to even say anything.
Hikari's eyes suddenly had widened to the size of a plate, her voice seemingly got stuck halfway inside her throat.
Those strands of silver sitting on top of that pale face, she'd recognize them in a heartbeat.
