Chapter 1
*3rd POV*
A bird was whistling and shook before it flew off with a melodic whistle. Rhythmic birdcalls were heard. As the bird flew through a log, more birds popped up. He flew around a few birds, making them squawk and show two birds together.
A beat was heard as more birds appeared. They all began singing. "Hey!" A bird said as her eggs got up and walked off. "E a Ilha diz!" A bird said in Portuguese. A lot of birds gathered around and began dancing.
"All the birds of a feather! Do what we love most of all! We are the best at rhythm and laughter! That's why we love Carnaval!" The birds sang, and the same two eggs from earlier, bumped into each other, cracking the rest of the egg off and they danced.
"Call so clear we can sing to! La, la, la, la, la! Sun and nature's big moon! La, la, la, la, la! Dance to the music, passion and love!" The birds sang, and as they passed a tree, a baby blue macaw was seen.
"Show us the best you can do! La, la, la, la, la!" The birds sang, and the blue macaw's tail stuck up and began shaking, waking him up. "Everyone here is on fire!" The birds sang as the macaw looked at his tail feathers as they shake.
He got up quickly and went to the edge of the tree. "Get up and join in the fun! Dance with a stranger! Romance and danger! Magic could happen for real! In Rio! All by itself!" The birds sang. "Itself!" A separate bird sang.
"You can't see it coming!" The birds sang as a mother bird took her babies and threw them off the tree to get them to fly. "You can't find it anywhere else! It's real in Rio!" The birds sang as the blue macaw saw the babies fly up.
"And know something else!" The birds sang. "Something else!" A separate bird sang. The baby blue macaw was getting ready to fly. "You can't feel it happening! You can't feel it all by yourself!" The birds sang, before cages flew everywhere.
All the birds got captured in some kind of cage. The blue macaw watched in fear, before it was knocked out of his nest. He fell to the ground, and he looked around at the empty forest. He made a frightened yelp. But before he knew it, he was in a cage. Then he was on a plane and flew to a different place.

A truck drove on a road in the cold, on the side of the truck it said, 'Exotic Pets'. The back of the truck had a handle, but it was shaking as the truck drove into Minnesota. On the traffic light a bird was there and warming its tail feathers.
The man yelled out as he saw the bird. The bird yelled out as well and the truck slammed into something, causing the back to open. The back of the truck was still open as it drove off. One of the boxes landed in the snow.
In the little box, the blue macaw was sitting on a nest. He was shaking in fear and in the cold. The bird whimpers and huddles in the corner. He looked up as the top of the box was opened. A red headed girl gasped as she saw the bird.
She gently reached into the box as the bird whimpers. "It's okay. It's okay." She said softly as she got the bird opened the box. "Shh." The girl said as she pets the blue macaw, and he liked it. "I'll take care of you." The girl said and held the bird close who snuggled into her. Over the years, the pair grew and did everything together.

Her alarm went off and she began groaning as she hit the button. She kept trying to turn it off, but it kept beeping. "Stupid clock." She said as she hit it multiple times. She unplugged it, but it still made noise.
"Huh?" She asked confused. She heard a car alarm, but she looked up and saw Blu imitating the car alarm with her glasses on. She pressed his beak smiling. He imitates the car alarm stopping and put her glasses on her face.
She chuckled. "Good morning, Blu." Linda said as she scratched under his chin. They were now in the bathroom brushing their teeth. After they were done, they rinsed their mouths, Linda spit hers out, while Blu swallowed his.
Blu belched. "Ew!" Linda said as she looked at him with disgust. Blu pushed down the toast. Blu swung from ring to ring as he grabbed some cereal from the cabinet and gave it to Linda. He dropped down and landed on a plate, causing Linda to catch it as the toast landed on the plate.
"Oh. Come here." Linda said as Blu was avoiding a spoonful of medicine. "Tyler Blu Gunderson! You know these vitamins are good for you." Linda said before she gasped and picked up the cereal box.
"Ooh. What's this?" Linda asked, causing Blu to look at it happily with his mouth open. Linda put the spoon in his mouth. "Gotcha." Linda said as Blu swallowed the vitamins. He looked at her disgusted.
Blu jumped off the counter, and onto a toy police car he turned it on and began imitating the wailing police siren. He went around the room happily, and then he grabbed onto a handle, causing him to go flying in the air.
The car landed in a spot where s sign said, 'Reserved Parking for Blu'. Blu slid down the railing of the stairs as Linda walked down. Linda held her arm out and Blu landed on it. "Whoo!" Linda said happily as she spun around to the desk.
Blu typed on the computer the username and password. Linda pressed the button and the computer came up. "Aar!" It said as it showed Linda and Blu dressed in pirate's outfit. Blu pulled down the string to open the curtain by the window.
The store read 'Blue Macaw Books'. Blu flipped the closed sign to open. Linda held her fist up and Blu bumped his beak against it, and he lifted his foot, and they fist bump. They both imitate booming explosions.

"Enjoy the new book." Linda said to a customer. "Thanks, Linda." The woman said as she walked off. "Bye, now. Yes, Mom, I'd love to visit." Linda said into the phone as the door opens and closes.
"But who would take care of Blu? Mom, they don't have kennels for parrots." Linda said into the phone as she carried a plate of cookies and hot chocolate in the middle. "Here's your hot chocolate, Blu." Linda said.
That caused Blu to look up from the newspaper he was reading in his cage with a squawk. "Just how you like it." Linda said to him with a smile. "Plus, I don't trust leaving Blu with just anyone. No, I don't have a bird-sitter..." Linda said as she walked off.
Blu opened his cage and sniffed the hot chocolate. "Ah. This is the life." Blu said happily as he loved the smell of hot chocolate. "The perfect marshmallow-to-cocoa ratio. One, two, three, four, five...six. Mmm." Blu said before taking a drink of it, only to be startled by a snowball hitting the window.
He looked up annoyed and as the snowball fell off the glass, he saw two geese. "Well, well, if it isn't my favorite nerd bird." One of them said. "Very...very funny. Real mature." Blu said looking at them.
"Hey, pet! Where you migrating to this year, huh? The breakfast nook?" The other one said as they both laugh and throw another snowball. "Throw all the snowballs you want. I'm protected by this magical force field called glass. It's what keeps us so toasty and warm in here while you guys are out there freezing your..." Blu said but stopped.
He saw the birds shaking their tail feathers at him as he was about to eat a cookie. "La, la, la, la, la!" They said in a singsongy voice. "Classy." Blu said annoyed before he heard a man gasping. He saw a man almost slip on the ice.
"Oh. Arara! Arara! Arara! Ara..." The man said before he screamed as he almost slipped on the ice and slammed into the glass. He slid to the ground and Blu watched him slid to the ground. Linda opened the door worried.
"Are you all right?" Linda asked worried as the man looked up at her groaning. The man soon came inside shivering. "I'm not really built for this weather." The man said. "Oh. Are you looking for some books?" Linda asked as she fixed her glasses.
"Books? No." The man said before chuckling. "No. I have come 6,000 miles looking for him." The man said before gesturing to Blu, who was about to eat the cookie but stopped and made a confused grunt.
"Doctor of ornithology?" Linda read as she read his card that had 'Conservation Center of Rio De Janeiro' on it along with his name 'Tulio Monteiro'. "Ooh. He's magnificent." Tulio said before he started imitating birdcalls.
Blu moved away. "Linda, little help here. Linda?" Blu asked, even though she couldn't understand him. Tulio kept making bird noises as Blu did to. "Wow. You're actually communicating." Linda said thinking they were communicating.
"Yes, yes. I introduced myself and shook my tail feathers counter-clockwise, thus deferring to his dominance." Tulio explained. Blu looked at him confused. "I did not get that at all." Blu concluded.
"So, Dr. Monteiro, you..." Linda said but was cut off by Tulio chuckling. "Oh, no 'Doctor,' please. Just call me Tulio. You know, your macaw is a very special bird. In fact, as far as we know, Blu is the last male of his kind." Tulio explained.
"Really?" Linda asked as her and Blu looked at each other. "Yes. And recently, we found a female, and our hope is to bring the two of them together to save their species. But she has a female yellow canary she won't let leave her side." Tulio said, causing Blu to gulp scared.
"Oh. Well, yeah, sure. When can she come over?" Linda asked with a smile. "Oh, no, no, no. They're in Brazil. Blu must come to Rio de Janeiro." Tulio said smiling. Linda laughs. "Rio? Brazil?" Linda said as she backed away into a table.
Blu jumped onto the table with a squawk. "Oh, no. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I never let Blu out of my sight. He needs me." Linda said as she grabbed a book and held her arm out causing Blu to jump on her arm.
"Oh, no. You...you misunderstand. It's all arranged. You will be with him every step of the way. And I will be with you." Tulio said as Linda put the book away. "Um, look, I know you're doing your job, but I can't...Well, Blu is very particular, and we have our little routine here, and we're not big on travel." Linda said as Blu looked smug.
"Heck, he doesn't even fly." Linda said, causing Blu to look at her offended. "But of course he can fly. He's a perfect specimen." Tulio said as he examined Blu, causing him to squawk. "Uh, what are you doing?" Linda asked worried.
"Don't worry. Their natural instincts always take over." Tulio said. "Wait! Wait, wait! No! No!" Linda said before Tulio threw Blu. He squawks as he flaps his wings, but didn't fly, he fell to the ground with a thud.
"Well, almost always." Tulio concluded. "Blu!" Linda said before rushing to him. Blu grunts. "What kind of a doctor are you?" Blu asked before Linda picked him up. "Are you okay?" Linda asked worried as they had a small nuzzle.
"Perhaps he's too domesticated." Tulio said softly, causing both Linda and Blu to look at him angrily. "It was very nice of you to stop in and squawk around and throw my bird. But now it's time for you to go." Linda said as she gave him his card back.
"Well, I...I'm very sorry. I...I'm very sorry, but...wait, wait. Linda. Linda. This could be our last chance." Tulio said and Linda's eyes softened before sighing. "Have a safe flight." Linda said softly before closing the door.
Linda sighs and held her arm out to Blu. "Linda, please, listen to me. If we don't do this, his whole species will be gone." Tulio said before opening the flap and put his card through it. Linda looked at it and Tulio peaked through the flap. "Just think about it." Tulio said softly.

"Natural instincts. *scoffs* There's nothing natural about being thrown halfway across a room. Well, I'll show him. Hmm. I can do this. I just have to work out the physics. I have quadrated my vector angles. I have adjusted for wind shear." Blu said as he closed a book and held a pencil.
"Okay. Let's see. Flaps open. Perfect. Landing gear. Check. Tail flaps. Operational. And, actually, not bad. This is it. Let's fly." Blu said before he flipped a switch and Christmas lights came on. "Just keep it simple. Thrust, lift, drag and weight." Blu said before getting ready.
"Thrust, lift, drag, weight. Thrust, lift, drag, weight. Thrust, lift, drag...W-w-w-wait!" Blu said before screaming as he grabbed the lights stopping himself. He sighed with relief before he screams as the lights gave out.
"Ow!" Blu said as he slammed into the shelf. "Blu?" Linda asked coming down the stairs worried. She saw him tangled in the lights. He gave a pained squawking noise. Blu smiled at her nervously as she smiled back.
| The next day |
Linda was sitting in the doorway with Blu on her knee. "I promised I would always look out for you, didn't I?" Linda asked and Blu glanced at her. "And have I ever broken a promise?" Linda asked and Blu looked at her.
"I'm scared, too, but I wouldn't make you do this if it wasn't the right thing to do. What do you say, Blu?" Linda asked holding her fist up. Blu bumped his beak against it, and they did their handshake.
They intimidated explosions. "That's my big, brave boy. And we'll be back home before we even know it." Linda said as Blu got on her arm, and they got up and walked into the room to start packing their bags for the trip.
