Same As Usual
"It's a ring? They could've parcelled it in a smaller box. Why do they need to be so overdramatic and put a box inside another box?" she said feeling annoyed.
"It's beautiful though. So it was worth opening so many boxes," she said looking around the boxes scattered everywhere.
Ignoring the scattered boxes she takes out the ring and takes a closer look at it. It was a silver-coloured ring, decorated with little shiny stones. Noticing how pretty it was, without thinking twice she put on the ring. Feeling enchanted by its beauty, she admired the ring as she seem to like it a lot.
"It fits perfectly and looks so pretty on my finger!" she says still pretty amazed.
That's when it clicks her and her gaze landed on the simple blue-framed wall clock. Noticing the time her heart sank. She was again running late.
"No! How come?! I've to go get ready!"
Saying she rushed towards her washroom. And here starts her usual routine.
After coming out she blow drys her hair in a hurry while packing her belongings into her office bag. Once her hair was dried enough she ties it into a messy bun. That is literally messy due to the rush.
She checks her appearance to make sure nothing looks inappropriate and lastly, takes her bag and keys and comes out of her house.
Standing on the porch of her two-story house, she makes sure the door is securely closed and when felt reassured she started walking.
While she walked on her way, she notices an old lady who was struggling to push the food cart. Understanding her struggle she decides she'll help her. She ran towards her as fast as she could and help her push the cart to where she wanted to stop. Once done she looks at the lady smiling.
"Thank you, dear. I'm really glad that an angel like you helped me," The old lady says smiling.
"It's nothing. I just did my duty as a citizen," she replies smiling ."Um...halmoni, I've to go. Bye."
She said as she started walking while the old lady waved at her walking figure. She was looking at her wristwatch while walking knowing she has messed up.
She could take the bus but to her own fault since she always gets late she misses the bus every time, leaving her no choice but to walk to her office.
"Oh no, I'm getting late," she whispered worriedly.
After looking at her watch to walk even faster she looks up but gets surprised when she bumped into a little girl.
"I'm sorry unnie! I was chasing my ball so I didn't notice you coming. Sorry," The little girl said apologizing, pointing at her pink ball that was rolling on the ground.
"Oh no! No need to say sorry. It's totally fine. But next time be careful while walking on the streets, okay?" she smiles.
"Okay! You're really nice unnie," The little girl said smiling.
"Thank you," she replied patting the girl's head and smiles.
Once done they both started to walk in their separate way.
Finally, after a lot of huffing and puffing, she reached her office building that stood tall in the area crowded with workers. The sunlight reflected brightly on the glass walls of the building. Getting inside she sat down on her simple-looking desk, head down. While she was still catching her breath she felt a pat on her shoulder.
She looked up to see her friend. She was wearing a midnight blue shirt and a maroon pencil skirt.
"Halsey? Good morning," she wished her tiredly.
"Morning lazy bird. You're late again. Why don't you just set an alarm for everything?" she jokes.
"No need to taunt me. Just say why are you here," she said fixing her posture.
"Well, the CEO asked you to meet him in his office. Have you finished the paperwork? That's why he is calling you," Halsey said crossing her arms.
"Oh, I've already finished it. Okay, I'll get going then."
Saying she stood up and walked towards the CEO's black-coloured office door. She knocked twice and waited for him to call her. When she was allowed to enter, she entered by closing the door behind her and standing with a straight posture in front of his desk.
His office was busy with lots of files. There's a bookshelf behind his desk that is used to keep the files. Though his desk and the chairs were in a darker brown colour everything else was of a far more different and bright colour.
There was a grey-coloured couch for guests to sit in. The floor was decorated with marble tiles and the ceiling had a rich interior design decorated with lights pleasing to look at.
"Morning Ms. Kim. Hope you've finished your work?" he asks looking at her.
"Yes sir. It's done," she said smiling as she hand him the papers.
He checks the paper and then hands her another set of files.
"Now I want you to complete these and I also want you to collect the recent data of our products that customers have been purchasing the most," he said as he intertwined his fingers and placed his hand on his desk.
"Okay sir," she replies bowing as she came out of his office.
She goes back and sat down at her desk. Starting her laptop she starts her work. About 5 hours later when the sun slowly started going down, she finishes her work. She yawned as she stretched for a while, feeling tired.
"Hey, you done? Want to have something together?" Halsey asks smiling while leaning on her desk.
"Yeah, fortunately, I'm done. You wait till I come back after handing the files to the CEO."
She said while taking the files. Once done she walks towards his door again knocks and entered.
"Sir I'm done," she says pacing the files on top of his table.
"Hm, I really love how you're so passionate about your work. I like the dedication. That's the only reason you're here even though you come late," he said as he checked her work.
"U-uh thank you, sir. I'll get going then."
She said bowing as she walked out. She went to her friend and they both head to a nearby fast food store. Getting there they take their seats.
"What would you like to have?" Halsey asked.
"Sandwich as usual duh. Don't need to ask this every day," she said rolling her eyes.
"I ask every day because I always hope you'll order something different," Halsey replied smiling.
"You're really something," she said in disbelief.
Halsey just continues to smile and stood up walking towards the counter to give their order while Y/n waits for her. When she was done she came back and sit in the seat opposite of Y/n's.
"What did you order today?" she asked.
"Today I ordered Hamburger," Halsey said as she smiled and blinked once.
"At least you're not like me, eating the same food every day," she said as she drank a glass of water.
"That's why I tell you to be more like me," Halsey said.
"Sandwich is the only thing I can afford so it's not like I'm doing this on purpose. How come you save so much money at the end of the month while all my money is gone?" She asked as she took a bite from her sandwich.
"It's called savings buddy," Halsey said as she pats on her shoulder.
Y/n chuckled at her response. After they were done they both separated on their ways.
While Y/n was walking she noticed something. She fastened her pace to see where the yelling is coming from.
"Hey, drunk man! How many times have I told you to not get drunk and dance outside my house door!"
An old lady shouted at a drunk man while the drunk man keep on dancing. It made Y/n almost burst into laughter. It's a bit funny to encounter something like this.
She covered her mouth trying to suppress her laughter as she walk past them. When she get closer to her house door she took out the key and opened the door.
She entered as she lazily sat on a chair and put her bag on the table. She put her head down and was like that for a while.
After she gained all her energy she stood up and went to get fresh. When she was done with her night routine she turn on her speakers and put on a soft song.
She made some ramen and enjoyed it. After she was done. She wash the plates and went to bed. She covered herself with the blanket as she looked at the ceiling.
She sighs, "Today was hard."
