Chapter 5

It was a year and a half since Roman and Patton first met. Patton had to admit that he was noticeably happier. He wasn't completely happy, but there was a definite improvement in his mental health. The never-ending reassurance and affection from his boyfriend made a huge impact. In fact, if it weren't for Roman, Patton wasn't sure where he would be.

Once Patton moved into Roman's house, and he had immediately taken it upon himself to make sure that everything was in order. Patton was raised to be very paternal and took care of the people around him. Roman made it clear that he appreciated every little thing Patton did, which meant the world to him. After years of being told that he needed to be better, being told that he was perfect made his heart flood with joy.

"Hey, Kitten!" Roman greeted Patton gleefully, joining him on the couch. Patton snapped out of deep thought and smiled sweetly at Roman.

"What's up, buttercup?" Patton laughed, blushing lightly when Roman kissed his cheek.

"I've got a question for you."

"Yes?"

"Do you have plans tonight?"

"No?"

"Well, you do now!" Roman exclaimed, wrapping his arms around Patton in a hug. "How does a movie sound? Just Like Heaven is playing at the drive-in theater tonight."

"Really!?" Patton gasped. Just Like Heaven was 'their movie'. They both enjoyed different aspects of it, but both agree that it was a beautiful love story. It was the perfect film for them to watch together.

"Really."

"Well, yeah! Sounds fun."

"Awesome. I've got a scene study in a half hour, but I'll be back by 5:30." Roman pressed a kiss on Patton's forehead before getting up and grabbing his bookbag. "I'll see you soon!"

"Have fun!" Patton called after his boyfriend as he left the house. Sitting all alone, Patton was determined not to let himself start to feel lonesome. Instead, he immediately looked for something to do. His therapist, Dr. Picani, had recommended going for walks when things got overwhelming. Patton found it relaxing, so he decided to idle away his time by wandering around the neighborhood.

Although he made a point to stay far from the Soartă river.

By 5:20, Patton had finished his walk and was mainly just waiting for Roman to get home. He'd gotten an email from Dr. Picani during the walk, reminding him that he had an appointment the next day at 10:00. Patton felt bad for going to therapy since it cost Roman money, but Roman insisted that it was well worth the price if there was even a chance that it could help Patton feel better.

That was something Patton had never experienced before. Roman made him feel special. He was always willing to do whatever it took to make sure Patton was safe and happy. Nobody ever cared about Patton so much. It was surreal in the best possible way.
