Chapter Seven- Forgive and Forget

"You w-what?" Undyne said, confused by the child's words. Forgive? Why would they so willingly forgive her when she was about to kill someone they seem to care about?

"I forgive you," repeated the small human, not caring to sign.

Undyne looked down at the little child, who was still hugging her. She looked at the bracelet circling her wrist. Its iron links were warming up to her skin. Her ears slowly lifted from the sides of her head. 'Guess a human may not be so bad...' she thought to herself, her heart suddenly warming to the human.

Undyne bent down, and shook the kid's hand. "Well played, punk," she said with a small laugh. "Nice to meetcha."

Frisk smiled. They just smiled.

The child then quickly ran back over to Sans, who had been watching the whole thing, and grabbed his hand determinedly, dragging him over to the fish woman.

"kid, what are you doing?" Sans asked, the child still yanking on his sleeve and pointing towards the other monster. He looked down at them confused, "uh?" Sans awkwardly made eye-contact with her, the toe to his slipper digging into the ground.

Undyne was able to read the human, quickly saying, "Sorry about the whole...um... trying to stab you with a spear thing, and...yea..." She drifted off, not exactly knowing how to go about the whole kicking him in the spine thing without getting strange looks.

He put his hand behind his head, "heh, y-yea, sorry about the whole trying and failing to kill you thing too."

Frisk looked at both of them with a huge smile. They then turned to Gaster, who was still looking at Undyne grudgingly. Frisk frowned slightly, waving him over. He reluctantly walked over.

"(Yes, child?)" He asked, ignoring the fish completely.

"(Please forgive her.)" Frisk said, "(I'm sure that she's sorry.)"

His brows knitted together, looking at his son. If he hadn't been able to step in, she would have killed him with no hesitation, she didn't deserve to be forgiven, what she did, in his eyes, was unforgivable.

"(Please.)" The child begged, looking up at him.

He growled angrily, quickly grabbing Sans by the shoulders and bringing him close to his waist, "(Child, I can not EVER forgive her for what she has done. I'm lucky I got there in time. One more second and he would have...)" He trailed off, the possibility of it even happening forming a knot in his soul.

Sans looked up at his dad, by the face he was making, Gaster could have sworn he was looking down at the wide-eyed child he left so many years ago, "it's okay, nothing happened, it's fi--"

Gaster's eyes lit in anger as he cut off his son in such a fury that he didn't bother signing, "It's not fine! You could have been killed! You were going to be killed!"

Sans shrunk back slightly, while Undyne bowed her head avoiding eye-contact. Frisk bit their lip, taking a step back from the skeleton.

Sans took in a breath, looking back up at his father, "if i did die... it's not like it would have been a big deal, i'm one monster, and you still got papyrus, i mean, it's not like-"

"(And the child is one human. What makes their death inexcusable but yours a matter of indifference?)" Gaster looked down at his son, a mixture of anger and sadness on his face. He knew that Sans had always belittled himself, but it still hurt him all the same as the first time he heard him tearing himself down like he was worthless.

Sans opened his mouth to speak, but then closed it again, looking down at his feet. Frisk looked over at them sullenly, they hadn't realized how little Sans had thought of himself. They thought over whether or not to say what they wanted to, before they decided to go for it.

They walked over to Sans, standing on their tip-toes and whispering where his ear should have been, "I was going to reset..."

"wh-what?" Sans asked, confused if he heard them right.

They continued whispering, not wanting to cause the others any confusion, "If she had killed you, I was going to reset."

Sans looked taken aback, "kid, why on earth would you-"

Frisk pulled away from him and looked up at him determined, "(Like your dad said, you aren't worth any more than I am, and if you think I deserve to live, then you do too.)"

He looked at them confused, before he smiled and...laughed?, "kid? sweet gesture and all but that's not how it works."

Frisk furrowed their brows at him confused, tilting their head.

Sans looked at them, sudden seriousness on his face, "kid, you do realize...i'm not a good person...at all."

Frisk looked at him even more confused.

"kiddo, i...i've done really, really, bad things. comparing you to me is an injustice." He glanced away from them before bringing his eyes back to them, "if anything, i'm the biggest hypocrite here."

Frisk shook their head at him, "(I...I don't understand... what do you mean?)"

Sans' eyes went void, time seeming to come near to a stop as he said something that Frisk never would have expected.

"i'm a murderer."
