Legend has it, an 'angel' who has seen the surface will descend from above and bring us freedom...
Frisk slowly walked across the wooden bridge, the old prophecy echoing through their head. The bridge creaked and groaned under their feet as they tried to be as cautious as possible. They were almost at the end, as they heard a familiar, cracking, voice call from behind them.
"YO!" he yelled, running across the bridge with no fear, despite not having arms for proper balance.
The monster looked to the side, before turning his attention to Frisk, "Yo, I know I'm not supposed to be here, but..." He trailed off, glancing to the side as he said, "I wanna ask you something." He paused, seeming to be nervous.
Frisk tilted their head at the monster confused, before signing for him to continue.
He bit his bottom lip, "...Man, I've never had to ask anyone this before...um," he paused, "Yo...you're a human, right?" He gave them an awkward smile, followed by an even more awkward laugh.
Frisk nodded, slightly unsure of this action.
"Man, I knew it! ... well, I know it now, I mean... Undyne told me, um, 'stay away from that human.' So, like, um..." He paused and frowned, looking down a little. "I guess that makes us enemies or something." He looked up a little, though, before he said the next phrase. "But I kinda stink at that." He laughed and dug his toe into the ground, almost embarrassed. "Yo, say something mean so I can hate you? Please?"
Frisk looked at Monster Kid, before shaking their head, 'no', refusing to hurt their new friend in any way.
"Yo, what?" Monster Kid shook his head. "So I have to do it?" Frisk looked like they wanted to interject, but Monster Kid talked over them, "Here goes nothing..."
He gulped, before putting on the best angry face he could muster, "Yo, I -- I hate your guts!"
Frisk blinked at the insult, not sure exactly how he wanted them to react.
"Man, I... I'm such a turd." He looked down, avoiding eye-contact, seeming to feel awful about want they just said to their human pal. "I'm... I'm gonna go home now." Frisk reached to stop him, but he already turned around before they could react.
He made a dash towards the opposite side of the bridge, but one of his claws got caught on a plank, causing him to tumble over the side, catching himself by the skin of his teeth... literally.
"Yo! W-wait! Help! I tripped!" He cried out, his legs squirming above the chasm below him.
Undyne arrived at the end of the bridge, facing Frisk. Her intimidating armor shone, reflecting off the light from the crystals and gems that dotted the cavern ceiling, she froze, seeing the small monster hanging off the side of the bridge. She took a step to go help the child, only to find the human do something she didn't expect.
They ran to help a monster.
Undyne backed off, as the human pulled the striped-shirted kid back up, not a care for her presence. Her heart was momentarily softened, but she knew -- she HAD to catch a human, she HAD to prove she could do it, and she... she had to free the monsters. She was determined.
The monster child faced her after he recuperated, he took a deep breath, as he looked towards her bravely, " Y... y... yo... dude..." he gulped, focusing on the eye glowing under the guard's helmet, "If... If y-you wanna hurt my friend..." The child buffed out his chest, trying to make himself look as big and fierce as possible, "You're gonna have to get through me, first."
Undyne took a step back from the duo, focusing on the human behind the small yellow monster. She knew she couldn't just kill them in front of an innocent child, but she didn't want to lose track of them either, the last thing she needed was for them to make it to Hotland, where it would be nearly impossible to track them down.
She took another hesitant step back, before sighing, and walking away.
Monster Kid's jaw dropped in shock. 'Did I just scare off Undyne?' He asked himself, before slowly turning around to Frisk, who also seemed to be in a shocked state.
"She's gone..." He said, as he double checked behind him to make sure there was no sign of her coming back. He then brought his attention back to Frisk, a slight blush on his cheeks, "Yo, you really saved my skin." He looked at the ground bashfully, before looking back up at Frisk, "I guess being enemies was just a nice thought," he laughed nervously, his blush spreading a little more, " We'll just have to be friends instead."
He paused, when suddenly a thought hit him like the rock, "Man, I should REALLY go home," he bit his cheek anxiously, bouncing on his heels, " I bet my parents are worried sick about me!"
He took a few steps, before perking up and turning back to face the human child, "Later, dude!" He called, before swiftly turning around and running off.
Frisk smiled as they watched the small monster run off, giving them a small wave as the ran into the distance. The child sighed before they looked ahead of them. They had an uneasy feeling in their soul, that soon, they'd have to face, Undyne.
They carefully made their way through the rest of the bridge, feeling relief when their feet landed onto the dirt ground.
They continued, crossed another small bridge, then kept on walking, passing stalactites and stalagmites along the way. The crystals and gems sparkled down at Frisk, like stars on a cloudless night, twinkling and glowing, giving a serenity to the cavern that was beyond any description Frisk could come up with.
Frisk walked into the next room, being greeted by a huge mountain of rocks with a hole carved through the center of it. They began to walk towards the entrance, when a loud, confident voice, boomed through the room.
"Seven."
Frisk looked up, to see the back of a guard's armor facing them. She gulped, knowing exactly who that was.
Undyne.
"Seven human souls, and King ASGORE will become a god." She began to monologue, " Six. That's how many we have collected thus far." She turned her head to the side, before turning to the front to face Frisk, "Understand?" she asked, not expecting a response in return, and continuing, "Because you're the seventh and final soul this world will be transformed."
Frisk looked at the ground sympathetically, feeling awful for the monsters that were trapped here, but.... They didn't want to die either.
Undyne looked to the side, her hair flying in the wind, " First, however, as is customary for those who make it this far," She turned back to Frisk, " I shall tell you the tragic tale of our people." She flipped her head back to the side, " It all started, long ago..."
Undyne frowned under her helmet, turning back to face the child, slight malice in her voice, "No, you know what? SCREW IT!" She yelled, causing Frisk to jump in shock, " WHY SHOULD I TELL YOU THAT STORY, WHEN YOU'RE ABOUT TO DIE!?"
She then let out what to Frisk sounded like some sort of war-cry, causing the child to cover her ears to protect them from the loud sound.
As soon as the sound subdued, Frisk opened one eye up at the monster. She was shocked to see a fish like creature staring down at her with one eye.
"YOU!" She shouted, her brows furrowing together, " You are standing in the way of everybody's hopes and dreams!" She glanced to the side, "Alphys's history books made me think humans were cool...with their giant robots and flowery swordsmen..." she rambled, before putting her focus back towards the human, "BUT YOU? You're just a coward!"
She narrowed her eyes, "Hiding behind that kid so you could run away from me again! And let's not forget about your wimpy goody-two-shoes-schtick!" She began to mock Frisk, causing the child's features to scrunch up in protest, "Oooh, I'm making such a difference by hugging random strangers!"
She rolled her eyes, "You know what would be more valuable to everyone?... IF YOU WERE ALREADY DEAD!!! That's right human! Your continued existence is a crime!" She pointed down at the child dramatically, " Your life is all that stands between us and our freedom! Right now I can feel everyone's hearts pounding together! Everyone's been waiting their whole lives for this moment! But we're not nervous at all."
She put her hand to her chest, "When everyone puts their hearts together, they can't lose!" She looked back down at the pest, "Now, human! Let's end this, right here, right now. I'll show you how determined monsters can be! Step forward when you're ready!" She cackled.
Frisk quickly ran back, seeing a save point.
The howling of the wind filled them with DETERMINATION.
Frisk turned back, ready for the fight, confidently taking a step forward.
"That's it then! No more running away! HERE I COME!!!"
The monster came crashing down in front of Frisk and swiped a spear across their soul, turning it a bright, vibrant green. Frisk tried to take a step backwards, only to find that they couldn't move.
Undyne attacked Frisk with ferocity, spears flying all around them, each wave becoming harder and harder to block, causing them to have to SAVE and RESET over, and over, and over again. But they continued SPARING Undyne, never fighting back. They had to prove to her that humanity wasn't bad, they had to prove that they deserved to live, they had to prove that there was another way for freedom.
Frisk was getting tired of trying to talk, they tried everything they could think of, but the monster didn't want to listen. Their only option would be to run.
Frisk became distracted by their own thoughts, losing focus and getting nailed in the shoulder with a spear. They cried out with pain, fresh tears threatening to emerge, but they held them back.
Undyne smirked at the child, she'd get their soul if it was the last thing she did. She swiped across the human's soul, turning it back to it's familiar, bright red. Frisk felt the heaviness of the green magic suddenly lift off their chest, looking down to see their soul had returned, they could move again. They were no longer trapped. They knew this was their chance. They stood up, gripping their injured arm, determination flowing through their veins. Then...
They ran.
