Nine

Jenny was consumed by Dean's arms as she tried to sleepy, listening to the rhythmic tune of his heartbeat. But, no matter how tired she was, she couldn't fall asleep.

Jenny slowly shimmied her way out of Dean's grasp, sliding off of the bed and walking towards the kitchen counter. She picked up the coffee pot and stared at its cold remains before grabbing a mug and pouring herself a cup. She, again, stared at the coffee in her cup, then to the fridge. She hated black coffee more than anything.

Still, she took a long sip of the bitter, cold drink, staring out the window as the moon shined down on the parking lot.

"Sleep troubles?" Jenny nearly dropped the cup as she spun around. Castiel was standing a few paces away from her, his head tilted as he gave her a confused look. She squinted her eyes as she felt something push against the inside of her head.

"Are you trying to read my mind?" She groaned quietly, rubbing her head as Castiel turned away, guilty.

"I'm trying to understand why you aren't asleep at this time. It's late." Jenny lowered her hand and then set the cup down on the counter, picking up Dean's large jacket and threw it around her arms, shivering a bit.

"I appreciate the concern, but I'm just not tired." Castiel turned back to Jenny, whose dark eyes wandered everywhere but to his bright blue ones. After a moment, she picked up her cold coffee and took another sip, finally met Castiel's gaze. "Why are you here?"

"I need you to listen to me, Jennifer. You must stop it." Castiel took two steps forward and Jenny took one step back, alarmed.

"Stop what?" She asked quietly, eyes widening for a moment as Castiel places two fingers onto her forehead. Jenny then fell to the ground with a hard thud, unconscious. The cup fell next to her and shattered, causing Dean to wake up with a jolt, and Castiel was gone.

"Jen? Jennifer!" Dean threw the blankets off of himself, rushing over to Jenny. "Jen? Jennifer."

———

Jenny made a strange noise as she woke up, glaring in confusion as a police officer tapped the bottom of her boot.

"Wake up, lady. Can't sleep here." Jenny sat up quickly, looking around.

"Where am I?" She asked and the officer frowned at her before walking away. "Hey I asked you a question!" Jenny stood up, flailing her arms up as the officer ignored her. "Great."

She rummaged through her pockets, pulling out her phone and went to call Dean. No service. "Super." She spat sarcastically, rolling her eyes and looked around. She walked into a diner, looking around before sitting next to a man at the counter.

"Excuse me, sorry. Uhm... Where am I?" Jenny smiled awkwardly at the man, who gave her a strange look.

"Jay Bird's Diner."

"Yeah I see that I meant what city and state?"

"You're in Lawrence, Kansas, ma'am." The man answered, frowning a bit harder as Jenny's brows raised. "Are you alright?"

"I'm fine, I'm fine just... Rough night." She laughed awkwardly and the man nodded in understanding. He turned to a man, waving him down.

"Can I get a coffee over here, Reg?" Jenny turned away from the man, frowning at everyone's clothing style. It all seemed out of date, most likely the 70s.

Reg walked over with a coffee and set it in front of Jenny, her brows raising at his attire. "You know Sonny and Cher broke up, right?" She chuckled, which made Reg frown.

"Sonny and Cher broke up?" Jenny's laugh immediately stopped, her face dropping just as fast and she looked at the man sitting next to her, then to Reg. The man next to her was looking at a newspaper.

"Can I take a look at that? Thanks." Jenny snatched the newspaper and stood up before the man could reply, reading the date.

April 30th, 1973

Jenny's eyes widened even more as she mouthed the year, slowly looking up and turning back to the young man and Reg. "Not again." She mumbled and turned back to the young man, handing him the newspaper. "Sorry."

"Hey, Winchester." Jenny look and the young man looked around before another man, who was much older, approached the younger man and shook his hand. Jenny frowned in confusion. "Son of a bitch. How you doing, Corporal?"

"Hey, Mr. D." The young man held his smile as Mr D returned the gesture.

"I heard you were back."

"Yeah, a little while now."

"Good to have you home, John, damn good." Jenny's mouth dropped open in shock.

"John?" She mumbled, now staring at him with wide eyes.

"Well, say hello to your old man for me." Mr D said before walking away. Jenny still stared at John, who looked back to her.

"Do we know each other?" John asked, frowning at Jenny as she finally blinked, shaking her head.

"No. No we don't." John nodded slowly at Jenny before getting up to leave. She wanted to say something. Maybe yell at him, punch him. But this wasn't the John she knew.

No. The John she knew was much older. And a Hunter. And dead. Her John doesn't exist. Not yet, at least.

———

Jenny followed John a few paces behind him, just far enough that it wasn't suspicious. As she rounded a corner after him, Castiel appeared in front of her.

"Jesus—! Dammit Cass what the fuck is going on?! Why the hell did you send me here?" Jenny asked, looking over Castiel's shoulder to see John was getting further away.

"I told you. You have to stop it." Castiel spike in a monotone voice and Jenny let out a confused scoff.

"I can't stop it if I don't know what it is. Did you send me here to stop John? What, is he in danger?" Jenny became distracted by a car honking.

When she turned back, Castiel was gone. She slapped her hands to her thighs. "Thanks for the help." She grumbled, rushing to chase after John again.

———

Jenny had followed John all the way to a car dealership, stopping when she spotted the Impala. A small smile crept onto her lips until she realized that wasn't the car John was interested in.

"A fine young man like yourself, just starting out? How about I take off another 250?" The car salesman offered. Jenny looked at John as he considered the offer, and nodded.

"Let's do it." The car salesmen smiled at John as Jenny shook her head in disagreement.

"I'll get the paperwork." The salesman walked away as Jenny started walking towards John, who stood in front of a beige Volkswagen van, rubbing the headlight.

"I don't think that's the one you want." John turned to see Jenny leaning against the drivers door of the Impala, gesturing to it.

"You following me?" John smirked but Jenny shook her head.

"No. No, I saw you as I was walking past and, well, that car doesn't match your style." John turned to the van he was waiting to buy, then back to Jenny and the Impala.

"You think this car is more my style?" John asked as he walked over to her. Jenny shrugged.

"Let's just say you'll definitely be thanking me in the future." Jenny smiled as John checked the Impala out, nodding slowly. "I never got to thank you for that coffee. I'd like to repay you." Jenny stood up straight, turning to face the hood. "This is the car you want."

"Oh yeah, you – you know something about cars?" John asked almost skeptically, and Jenny shrugged.

"Yeah. I grew up around mechanics. I know a few things." She lifted the hood of the Impala up and waved for John to join her. "This is an amazing car, by the way. 1967 Chevrolet Impala, and it's about as reliable as it gets. 327 four barrel, 275 horses. A little TLC and this thing is cherry."

"You sure know a lot about this car." John commented and Jenny smiled, staring at the hood.

"Yeah. And let me tell you something. This baby will still be shining by the time she's forty." Jenny turned to John, who laughed a little bit.

"I think you might be right about this car." John nodded slowly, and Jenny gestured to the vans

"Then what are you buying that thing for?"

"I kinda promised someone I would." John grumbled and Jenny scoffed, shutting the hood.

"Over a '67 Chevy? I mean, come on, this is the car of a lifetime. Trust me, you will never get over this car." John considered Jenny's offer before nodding his head in agreement, and outstretched his hand. Jenny shook it firmly z

"John Winchester. Thanks."

"Jennifer Motley. And thank you." Jenny watched as John looked into the open windows of the Impala, smiling. "I was in pretty rough shape this morning, huh? Sorry about that whole scene."

"No kidding. But... I don't mind." John shrugged and Jenny nodded, thinking.

"I've been hung over before, but let me tell you, I swore I smelled something weird too, you know? Like... like rotten eggs. You didn't happen to smell any sulfur by chance?" Jenny asked and John shook his head, confused. "Well, alright. You just... You just take care of yourself now, alright John?"

"Hey, you too, Jennifer." Jenny waved goodbye and spun around, her smile immediately dropping.

"What the hell am I supposed to stop?"

———

Again, Jenny had been following John. She was driving a brand new volkswagen beetle, despite the car being about as reliable as four rock weeks and a slab of wood. She sunk in her seat to watch John park in front of a house. She couldn't hear anything from where she sat, but a young blonde woman ran up to him, pausing to frown at the Impala.

Slowly, Jenny's brows raised. "Mary?"

———

Jenny had followed John and Mary to a diner, where she did her best to hide. After a few minutes of watching Mary and John flirt to the point it made Jenny want to puke, Mary stood up. Jenny frowned, standing up and watched as the blonde woman disappeared.

"Why are you following us?" Jenny spun around? blocking Mary as she went to knee Jenny in the gut. Mary frowned at how quick Jenny had blocked the attack. She backed away to the next building, where she dodged Mary's punch.

"Mary wait!"

"How do you know my name?! Are you stalking us?!"

"No! Are you crazy?!" Jenny backed into a wall, ducking as Mary went to punch her in the face. Mary yelled in pain as her fist collided with the brick and Jenny moved to stand behind the woman, slamming her into the wall.

"You've been trailing us since my house." Mary spat, going to grapple with Jenny again.

Jenny grabbed Mary's wrists and spun the woman around, pinning her against the wall. Their faces were only a few inches apart. Jenny looked down at the sound of something clicking together. A bracelet was attached to Mary's wrist.

"Let me go!" Mary shouted, Jenny looking at the woman. Mary stopped fidgeting as Jenny raised Mary's arm to look at the bracelet with the protective charms.

"You're a hunter?"

———

As Mary stepped out of the Impala, to which John drive off, Jenny emerged from behind a tree. Mary walked over to Jenny.

"It's not often you come across another female Hunter." Mary commented as Jenny nodded slowly. "It's Jennifer, right? I'm not sure you should come in."

"You can trust me, Mary. I mean, come on, we're all hunters, right? I mean, we're – we're practically family." Jenny hummed, turning away awkwardly.

"Yeah, thing is, my Dad, he's a little, um..."

"You're dad? I'd like to meet him." Jenny smiled, which caused Mary to frown in confusion.

"You've heard of him?"

"Ahhh only a few. But I think stories are better told by the one who experienced it." Jenny stated. Mary nodded in agreement, slowly leading Jenny towards her home.

———

"So, you're a hunter? Well, tell me something, misses hunter, you kill vampires with wooden stakes or silver?" Samuel Campbell asked and Jenny laughed, shaking her head.

"No. You cut their heads off." Jenny have Samuel a winning smile and the Mary smiled next, looking to her father. "Did I pass the test? Because I've never passed a test before."

"Yep. Now get out of my house." Jenny's smile immediately dropped into confusion.

"Dad!" Mary argued, her father shaking his head.

"I don't trust other hunters, Jennifer, don't want their help, don't want them around my family."

"Knock it off, Samuel." Deanna called out from the dining room

"She's a hunter." Samuel argued as his wife walked into the room.

"Who passed your little pop quiz, and now I am inviting her to dinner. Are you hungry?"

"If you don't mind." Jenny smiled softly, looking to Samuel. He gave her a quick glare and she turned away.

"Good. I'm Deanna, you've met my husband Samuel, now wash up." Jenny looked to Mary.

"Samuel and Deanna?" She raised a brow, trying not to smile as Mary nodded.

———

Jenny, Mary, Samuel and Deanna were sitting around the dining room table eating dinner. Dean a leans over and touches Jenny's arm. She looked down at Deanna's hand mid-bite, then met the woman's eyes.

"First time in Lawrence, Jennifer?"

"Well, it's been a while. Things sure have changed... I think." Jenny commented, biting into her food.

"You working a job?" Samuel asked and Jenny set her fork down, shrugging with a small nod.

"Yeah, I think so."

"What's that mean?" Samuel frowned and Jenny met his eyes, humming.

"It means I don't trust other hunters either, Samuel."

"Hey, um, so why were you following me and John?" Mary asked quietly, Jenny turning to her.

"I thought something was after your, um, boyfriend, but um, I don't think that anymore."

"John Winchester mixing it up with spirits, can you imagine?" Deanna chuckled, shaking her head.

"I saw that." Mary commented, and Jenny frowned in confusion, looking to Samuel.

"What?"

"That sour lemon look."

"Now hold on, John's a really, really nice... naive civilian." Samuel argued, setting his drink down.

"So what? You'd rather me be with a guy like... uhm... if Jennifer was a man?" Jenny's eyes widened, shaking her head.

"What? No, no. No. I am not a good role model." Jenny laughed awkwardly.

"Mary, of course not, it's just that I—"

"That's enough, both of you, we have company." Deanna snapped at the two. Jenny slowly picked up her fork, stabbing at her food.

"So what about you, Samuel, you, uh... working a job?" Jenny asked. Samuel shrugged.

"Might be."

"He's working a job on the Whitshire Farm." Samuel gave Mary a look and Jenny frowned, looking down at her food in thought.

"Whitshire, why does that name sound familiar?"

"Well, it's been all over the papers. Tom Whitshire. Got tangled up in a combine a few towns over."

"That kind of thing happens." Jenny shrugged, still picking at the food she barely touched.

"So why was he on it in the first place when his crops are all dead?" Samuel shrugged. Jenny looked to the man, thinking.

"Demonic omens maybe?" She assumed. Samuel, again, shrugged.

"That's what I gotta find out."

"What about the rest of the town?" Samuel stayed quiet. "Well, did you find anything on the web?" The trio gave Jenny a confused look and her brows raised a bit. "Oooof information that you have assembled?"

"Electrical storms maybe. The weather service graphs should be here on Friday." Deanna mentioned and Jenny frowned in confusion.

"By mail?"

"No, we hired a jet liner to fly 'em to us overnight." Samuel said, though Jenny couldn't tell if he was being sarcastic or not.

"You know, it kind of sounds like we arehunting the same thing. If we go in there in numbers, we could take care of this pretty quickly." Samuel gave Jenny an angry look, leaning forward.

"What part of "we work alone" do you not understand, lady?"

I was debating on having this still be Dean's episode, but since Cas raised Jenny from Hell and she has never met any of Sam and Dean's family except for John, I think this fits. and y'all probably don't gaf
