EXTENDED SUMMARY
Fiona Gallagher made a mistake. A slip up. But she thought that she could get her siblings back from the foster system after a few days. She always did.
Until, however, she finds out that inexplicably, her younger brother (and probable future serial killer) Carl has been sent to a family in Maine.

While Fiona searches for her brother, Carl is settling into the town of Derry, Maine as public school ends and he meets four boys his age biking down the street with a plan to visit a sewer. With nothing better to do, Carl grabs his pocketknife and goes with them.
