EXTENDED SUMMARY
Clary Thomas was kind of a badass. A spit-fired, short haired badass who didn't need words to get her point across. Her eyes and hands told more stories than Richie Tozier could spit out of chapped lips, and the scars from her implants spoke deeper than anyone in the shit hole of Derry could voice.
Clary was misunderstood, overlooked in a hearing world who refused to see her as more than just her deafness. "Poor thing, she can't hear." Fuck. That.
But then there was Stan Uris. The soft spoken boy who went to her church, and stole glances on Sundays and engaged in communication afterwards on the curbside as cars left the gravel parking lot. And when she signed and wrote down the meaning on a lined notepad, god did he ever look at her.
Quickly swooped up into a world of the supernatural after befriending the Jewish boy, Clary learned that there were terrors haunting her home town. And she was going to kick IT's ass with her bare hands because that's how she did everything else, wasn't it?

— stan understands simple signs that clary taught him and can sign basic phrases

— she has a cochlear implant but it only works to an extent and she can hear sounds but can't distinguish the words being said

— ASL INSULTS PLEASE ( ugly rat is my personal favorite )

— her and richie don't get along, she thinks he's immature and close minded

— stan is mf soft around her and constantly signs cute stuff like wow*

— her parents suck and refused to learn ASL, forcing her to lipread which is difficult bc only 30% of speech is shown on your lips

— she! doesn't! want! to! be! hearing! ( she doesn't view deafness as a setback )

— kicks pennywise's ass with her cochlear by turning the frequency all the way up !!

— punches henry on the last day of school for insulting her and that's how she joins the losers*
