CHAPTER 3
Taking in the hottie's looks, he was tall, like 6'2. He had a chiseled jawline, that could no doubt cut through my Swarovski diamond bracelet. His jet black hair was a tad messy, but effortlessly beautiful, complimenting his somewhat pale skin. Those black pools of his narrowed down to his white, V-neck shirt that showed off his impeccable abs and pecs.
He was staring at the, I'm guessing, now hot chocolate stain.
Oops. Oh well, I'm sure he will laugh this off. After all, I am hot. He is hot. The two of us should get along swimmingly.
"Don't you know how to watch where you're going!?" He expressed.
Or maybe not...
"Oh, my bad," I giggled. "Some freak just rushed past me, so I accidentally stumbled into you. But don't worry, I'm sure a fit guy like you could get away with being shirtless. Or maybe you could let me buy you another drink," I said seductively.
Ooo this should get him.
He smirked down at me. "Hm, not gonna happen, Princess."
I was appalled to say the least. NO GUY has ever turned me down before! My mouth went wide open when I watched him just walk right past me.
Okay, let's not freak out. I am wearing all black today, and maybe he's just not into goth chicks. Yeah, yeah, that's it! Oh but baby, wait until he sees me in my true final form!
I smirked at my thoughts.
Oh shoot! I didn't even get his name, number or Instagram! Hm? Maybe if I show up here everyday at the same time, I could run into him- er, but maybe not literally, again.
"Daisy are you sure you're okay? You seem to get wrapped up in your thoughts a lot," Natalie said as she trailed up a little behind me.
"Of course I'm okay," I rolled my eyes, opening the door.
The bell above the door dinged as we walked in the homely, but kind of cute shop. The tables were round-- some brown or black colored. There were a few fairy lights hung up, giving the room some lively color. The brick walls had pictures of, I'm guessing customers, hanging up. The menu board was hung up behind the baristas, all of the writing in colored chalk.
As the short line went down, Natalie ordered something filled with calories and sugar, that I couldn't be bothered to pay attention to.
"And you?" the girl, probably around 19, asked me.
I took a look at the vast array of baked treats that were inside the glass display in front of me. Man, I'd totally have a chocolate chip muffin if I ate carbs.
"Just give me a Venti, skinny, nonfat, sugar free, Iced Vanilla Latte. Oh, and a turkey protein box."
She just looked at me without facial expression.
What? Is everyone in this dusty town stupid or something?!
"Ma'am, this isn't Starbucks," she said flatly.
"Obviously," I scoffed.
But hold up, wait. Did this certified smoothie maker just call me 'MA'AM'?!
"...What did you just call me?" I seethed through my beautiful, pearly whites.
The barista gave a confused look.
Oh, so now she wanna play dumb!
I was about to give her a piece of my mind, when Natalie lightly grabbed my arm. "Um, Daisy," she whispered, looking around at the now growing audience. "Let's not make a scene."
"Oh please," I rolled my eyes. "I couldn't care less about these scummy people! What I want is an apology from this dirty, apron wearing worker!"
"An apology for what?" She asked, offended.
"I'm younger than you are! You do not call me 'MA'AM'. Do you even know who I am?! Do you?! But then again, based on the looks of your appearance, you clearly don't have a social media account. I am DAISY NICKELS. And do you know what that means? It means you may refer to me as 'Daisy', 'Miss Daisy', 'Miss', or better yet, 'Empress Daisy'! Not no damn 'ma'am'!" I expressed.
Her eyes widened in fright as she spoke, "Ma'am- I MEAN MISS, I'm afraid I'm going to have to ask you to leave. You're scaring the customers, and we have children present."
Oh, so now I'm scaring kids?! Psh, okay, this minimum wager really wants me to take it there.
I was about to open my mouth again, when Natalie spoke up, "Oh no, she'll behave."
BEHAVE? I ain't no dog! Oh, but I'll surely dog walk this girl all over this place, when I get my hands on her!
Crap. I just remembered that I don't even have enough bail money, if I were to actually do that.
Deciding it was best to spare the girl, I sighed deeply. "Okay! Well then just give me the largest that you've got, sugar free, Iced Vanilla Latte, a turkey panini, and oh what the heck-- a chocolate chip muffin."
Yes, I am stressed out right now, so I will indulge in a muffin. SHH! DON'T TELL ANYBODY.
"Okay, that'll be $13," the girl said, ringing me up.
I reached into my black Dior bag, pulling out my Balenciaga wallet, when Natalie stopped me.
"Oh, that's okay Daisy, it's my treat!" she smiled.
I squinted my eyes in annoyance. How dare she try to take pity on me. I can pay for my own freaking latte! I mean come on, I just bought a Gucci handbag three days ago!"
"That's quite alright, Natalie, but I've got it covered," I said, taking out my money.
"Oh, and one more thing," I said, withholding my cash from the barista. "I want him to make my order." I pointed to a decent looking guy in the back. "Who knows what type of poison you'd try to put in it."
Walking over to a table on the other end of the cafe, I sighed. Was my pride really so big that I wouldn't even let my very annoying, but still kind of nice cousin pay for me? I looked in my wallet, only $100 left. That's not even enough to pay for a new designer belt. I don't know how regular people do this.
Natalie soon came back with our orders. She handed me a small piece of paper with numbers on it.
"What's this?" I asked, holding it up.
"That guy who made your food asked me to give you his number," she said.
Looking up, I saw the tall, brunette guy give me a wink before going back to taking orders.
I lazily tossed the scrap to the floor. "Yeah right, not in his dreams."
I took a bite of the muffin and let out a blissful sound. Oh, how I have missed the taste of bread!
"That good huh?" Natalie giggled as she took a bite out of a donut.
"You have no idea," I said, eyes rolling back a little. I really don't remember sweets tasting this good.
"Yeah, the food here is amazing. Mrs. Lilac, the owner, makes all the recipes herself from scratch," Natalie smiled.
"Well way to go Mrs. Lilac," I said, before taking a sip of my latte.
Tasting the sweet, soft flavors of vanilla and nutmeg, I looked up to see two people come in our direction.
"Hey Nat!" A girl called out.
Natalie turned halfway in her seat to greet them. "Hey guys!"
They pulled up two seats to our table.
Ugh, more social interaction.
"Who's your friend?" The dark brunette, brown eyed guy asked.
"Oh, that's my cousin, Daisy," Natalie smiled.
"Nice to meet ya," the guy said with a smile. "I'm Alex." He stuck his hand out for me to shake.
I stared at it for a while before going back to drinking my iced latte. What? Did he actually think I was going to touch his hand. I don't know where he's been.
"..Well alrighty then," he nodded, taking his hand back.
"Hmmm?"
I turned my head up slowly to look at the light brunette, blue eyed girl, sitting a bit angled to my right. She was looking at me, tapping her chin in thought.
"Do you need something?" I asked, slightly annoyed by her staring.
"You look really familiar. Oh! Are you Daisy Nickels? Oh, wow, I follow you on Instagram!" She said in admiration.
"..Yes, it is I" I smirked in satisfaction.
"Golly, I can't believe it! You're even prettier in real life! But hey, what are you doing all the way over here? I'd figured you'd be somewhere, vlogging at a fancy pool party or something," she said, all in one bit.
Okay, I came here to not think about my sudden change of events. Not to have them keep getting thrown in my face!
I calmly stood up, grabbed my things and made my way to the front door. I will not tolerate this kind of negative energy today.
"Was it something I said?" The loud mouthed girl hollered out behind me.
As I made my way to the scraggly car, I heard jogging steps behind me.
"Hey!" Natalie called out.
"Hay is for horses, I'm ready to leave," I stated.
"Look, Kaitlyn didn't mean anything by that. I didn't tell her the real reason why you're here either. Just that you're visiting us for a while," she said seriously.
"You got that right. And you better not tell anyone about my current situation!" I said seriously, pointing my index finger directly at her. My reputation would be tarnished if this got out.
She sighed as she unlocked the doors. Putting her hands on top of the car, she looked over at me from her side, "You know it's nothing to be ashamed about."
"Oh please. Like you know anything," I scoffed before then sitting on the passenger side.
"Maybe you're right," she said under her breath as she started the engine.
-----
We soon arrived back to what I will be calling 'home' for a while.
I hastily walked straight into Natalie's bedroom and slammed the door, ignoring the initial greetings of my mother and aunt.
I sauntered over to the left side of the room, that I'm assuming was cleared out for me, and flopped on the bed. How will I ever get my beauty rest on this tiny little bungalow? What size is this? Full? It compares nothing to my California King back at the mansion. Well, at least the sheets and pillows are clean. The light smell of lemon and lavender surrounded my nostrils.
This is, like, the complete worst day of my life! Burying my face into the pillow, I screamed into it, trying to release some pent up aggression. I couldn't even finish upon hearing a knock at the door.
"Sweet pea, it's mama, can I come in?"
Oh, what does she want? She's the one who put me in this catastrophe in the first place!
"Yeah, whatever!" I yelled.
"Cake pop, did something happen?" She asked as she softly entered the room, closing the door behind her.
"Why, yes mother, EVERYTHING has happened!" I cried.
"Oh, honey bunches, I know," mother said, sitting down, cradling my head on her chest. "But we have to make the most out of this situation. I mean, no one has found out about any of it, so that's good, right?"
My crying let up for a bit. "Well yes, that's true, I suppose."
"Yes, and you still have your friends, and Chad, right? You can still go hang out with them."
I sat up at the mention of them. Chad and I are splitsville, and mother knew just as well as I, that if my friends were to ever find out about our current living situation, then their parents would find out, and we'd be the laughing stalk of the valley.
"Chad and I broke up," I said groggily.
"What? Oh, no," mother gasped. "What happened?"
"Yeah, I don't wanna talk about it," I shook off.
"Hm, okay. But just know that you are a knockout. You can get any guy you want," she smiled down at me. "Chad is not the only fish in the sea. You, Daisy, are beautiful and smart. You got that from my genes," she smirked as flipped her hair on the last sentence.
Well, she definitely handed me the beautiful genes, but I don't know where I got the smart ones from..
"Thanks, mom," I smiled up at her.
She kissed my forehead before standing up. "Okay. Get your things ready for school tomorrow, and be ready for dinner in 10."
I stopped drying my tears and perked up at her. "Wait, school? How can I still go to Valley Water High? We can still afford the tuition?"
"Oh, goodness no!" Mother laughed, waving a hand in the air. "I enrolled you at Sunny Hill High. You start tomorrow with Natalie."
"But wait, that's a... a... PUBLIC SCHOOL?!"
